1. Right-click on the account, and select "Settings".
2. Select the "Synchronization & Storage" panel for the account.
3. In the top section, you should be able to set it to download
messages for

offline use, and even specify which folders.

Is this supposed to download the message bodies for newsgroups?  It
doesn't seem to work there.  I find the messages aren't downloaded until
you view them.

SMTP = Simplified *Mail* Transfer Protocol.

Newsgroups use NNTP which is different.

Not sure what you are talking about.  The fact that different protocols
are used is not terribly related is it?  The newsgroup account has all
the same settings under Synchronization and Storage.  This is purely a
SeaMonkey issue.

I don't know what the actual difference is between SMTP and NNTP, but,
as someone somewhere, has gone to the trouble of calling them different
things for different purposes, I'm guessing there is some difference.

If you want to download News Group Posts, try looking at your
File->Offline

settings.

In fact, this takes me to... Synchronization and Storage for the
newsgroup account.

Where are you seeing this?? If I'm looking at your post here in my "Mail
& News groups" screen, and I click on "File" in the top left then select
"Offline", I see the options for "Work Offline", Download/Sync Now",
"Offline Settings, "Get Flagged Messages" and "Get Selected Messages".
No mention of "Synchronization and Storage"!!

Oh!! Hang on!! Now I see you have selected "Offline Settings" and that
has taken you to "Synchronization and Storage" screen in your News
Account. O.K., on that screen, select "Select Newsgroups for Offline
usage" and select those groups which you want to download onto your
computer Hard Drive. Beware this could take up heaps and heaps of your
Hard Drives space and Download allocation!!

SMTP is for sending messages.

Reception is handled via POP3 or IMAP.

POP3 downloads everything. IMAP synchronizes with the server.

I'm pretty sure POP3 has the ability to download just headers and not
message bodies. Eudora allows a user to do just that using POP3.

When did downloading message bodies with SMTP become available?
I though SMTP was for sending messages.
