Bad idea. Read the first known issue:
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.0.3/#issues

and seem to have lost 43,000 messages in the Inbox.

At least nothing is lost at all, your old profile is being migrated to a
new directory so all your old data remains intact at the old location.

See http://seamonkey.ilias.ca/profilefaq/for details on where that is.

The install seemed normal and asked if i
wanted to import a range of information, including mail which was selected.

It imported all other boxes and profiles except my Inbox.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I'd suggest to install SM2 to a *new* directory, let it migrate your
profile again and see if your inbox is fine.
If it's not, try to copy your inbox file from the old SM1-pofile to the
new SM2 profile (C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Application
Data\Mozilla\Seamonkey\...) and delete the inbox.msf file there. (all
that while SM is closed of course)

Hopefully this is not a filesystem issue, feel free to run chkdsk first.
regards

John, when you type loaded Seamonkey v. 2.0.3 over 1.1.17?? Do you
mean that you installed SM 2 into the exact same location as you had SM
1?? (Hopefully not!!)

By default, SM 2 installs into a different location to that of SM 1.
What the actual locations are, I don't know as I don't do default
installations.) SM 2 then makes a copy of your SM 1 profile for use with
your SM 2. This is so you can play with the new version, if you wish,
before moving over, fully, to the new version.

Close SM and do a Windows Find File and Folders looking for your
inbox (without the quotes) Hopefully, you'll find at least two.

(Bye-the-bye, 43,000 is an awful lot of message to keep in your inbox.
Have you ever considered dividing them up by year and function, or
something??)
