SM 2.2: Right-click menu on Google map covers Google's right-click menu
When I'm using Google Maps to get driving directions, I often right-click on my destination. When I do in SM 2.2, I get the usual menu (Reload, View image, Block image, Copy image, etc), overlaying the Google menu (Directions to here, Zoom in, Zoom out, Center map here, etc). I have found a workaround: after right-clicking, press the ESC key, and the top menu closes. Is it a problem in SM? Is there a way to fix it? ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

SM 2.2: Full Screen (f11) reorders window icons on task bar
Every morning, I open 2 browser windows, an email window, and another browser window. I drag the first browser window to my 7 Lilliput display, then use F11 to fill it with that browser window. That causes the window icon on the task bar to move to the top of the heap. In fact, any browser window that is changed to Full Screen moves to the top. With SM 2.0.xx, the widow order in the task bar did not change, and I liked that because it's easier to keep track of which window is which on the task bar. SM 2.2 - lost my html editing controls
I have been using Seamonkey for several years for editing simple HTML pages with CSS, tables, images, etc... I just installed SM 2.2. I have a couple of problems... * I have this weird exploding image selection behavior with no outline of the selected image, which makes it difficult to see if you are selecting and opening the right now. * In normal edit mode, I no longer have the nifty controls for adding and deleting table elements. I rely on these. I am surprised that I don't see anything about this in the release notes, help, or this support group. Is there some secret control to re-enable those features that I need ? I'll be curious about the answer to your problems. I've rejected the move to SM 2.2 solely because of the HTML page composer issues that users have complained about since its release. I guess the bottom line is that I'm waiting for 2.3 to see if people indicate that the problems have been eliminated (but I fear that isn't a priority, so I doubt it is happening.) My fallback is using kompozer instead of SM's Composer; but that sort of eliminates the advantages of a browser *suite*, doesn't it? We tried to fix some issues 2.1 had but others popped up, especially in MailNews and the address book (some things were not fixed entirely, and changes Thunderbird developers made to shared MailNews code were not fixed on our end fast enough). 2.2 was the first release after we switched to the rapid release process, and in this case we had even fewer time than the usual 6-18 weeks that the process dictates because 2.1 had already been delayed. Also there are some problems that appear due to the all-volunteer nature of the project. There are only very few developers in the first place, reviews (which are mandatory for any code change) take quite long. In former times (before 2.2) we had many months time to fix things and release when it's ready. Now we're pretty much date-driven. This requires paying more attention to regressions by everyone involved. There is a lesson to be learned there, and I think 2.3 will be better overall [even though I personally would have voted to respin 2.3b1 so that we don't release a beta with major issues that are already known to be fixed for 2.3]. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the rapid, date-driven release process either but we have little choice: Security fixes (which usually affect Gecko or other code shared with Firefox) are only fixed on the latest stable Mozilla platform version so we cannot skip one without exposing our users to security risks. This is (very) unfortunate but nothing we can influence, so there is no point in complaining about it. We have to make the best out of it. So does the API of Gecko change with every release? I would think you would be calling for services and fixes would be in the service. Does it really change so much that you can't link against the current code? I like the Linux model, where stability fixes are provided against recent releases, so people don't have to constantly upgrade. I would think that was a problem for Mozilla and corporate users as well, and a reason to provide bug fix only support for 90 days or six months, or something reasonable. No corporation I have supported would update softweare every six weeks, other than to apply patches. Might be an interesting read: http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20074590-264/rapid-release-firefox-meets-corporate-backlash/ Frankly, I think Mozilla has lost touch, expecting people to do an upgrade every six weeks. And forced silent upgrades? I may be wrong, that may be default rather than forced, you can protect yourself if you remember to do so. Still, no support after six weeks seems to be ceding the serious browser market to others. An interesting read indeed. -- Bill Davidsen david...@tmr.com We are not out of the woods yet, but we know the direction and have taken the first step. Upgrading to SM 2.2. causes loss of function in vital accessory
I tonight installed SM 2.2. With my browser I have long used an integrated password,etc.-remembering tool, RoboForm Pro. Tonight one box that appeared unbidden on my screen was headed [JavaScript Application]. The first line read, 'The Adapter supports only seamonkey ver. 2.0 to 2.9.*.' Something wrong there, no? The latest SM version is 2.2, right? Which is what I just installed. The next line read, 'You are using seamonkey ver. rv:5.0'. Huh? The last line read, 'Click Ok to go to web page that explains how to install RoboForm Adapter as extension.' Well, I clicked on Ok as instructed. Result: a blank page. Near the top of my screen is a RoboForm line which now reads just 'Unsupported browser'. Further frustration. Looks like I can't go back to SM 2.0.18 (I think it was) which is what I was using before. The 'Known Issues' note for SM 2.2 is headed (in bold), 'Data loss warning' and continues: 'If you use a profile with this or any later version and then try to go back to SeaMonkey 2.0, SeaMonkey will rename your history file to places.sqlite.corrupt and create a new places.qlite file, effectively resetting your browsing history.' Well, I don't pretend to understand all of that, but it does seem to be saying that I will lose data if I try to restore the SM version I had before. No? Please, any helpful comments? [Ubuntu 11.04 / SM 2.2] How to find a particular bookmark?
Is there a way easily to determine in which of my bookmark folders (I have many) a particular bookmark is stored in? I know the bookmark is there somewhere (because SM won't add a new bookmark when I attempt to bookmark an already-bookmarked site, and because within bookmark manager I can search / find the bookmark). However, I can't (easily) determine which folder the bookmark's in (the containing folder isn't indicated in the search result). BTW - is SM's refusal to add another instance of an already existing bookmark (via the browser's bookmark this page menu option) intentional? Nothing seems to happen when I do that (but within the bookmark manager I can cut/paste additional copies of an existing bookmark, so I can't imagine why there'd be a browser restriction). Philip Chee's xSidebar provided a context menu item for that for the old Bookmark Manager, but that was using the old back-end. BTW - is SM's refusal to add another instance of an already existing bookmark (via the browser's bookmark this page menu option) intentional? Yes. The idea is to add tags (which was not possible in former times) in such cases and otherwise only store a location once, since that allows to store and optionally show additional information such as last visited date and number of visits (in combination with the browsing history, which is now stored in the same database). I triedhttp://davesfiles.com/HTML/hex_decimal_color_picker.htm as you suggested. It produces a page, but how do I know if it is rendering properly? Maneuver the little ring in the large colored circle and the slider on the Brightness bar below the colored circle. The default is background color. You should see the background color in the rectangle under Sample Document change to match the position of the little ring, and you should see the number after Brightness change as you move the slider (0 at the far left and 100 at the far right). Also, the hex color-codes should change both to the right of the word Background and after BGCOLOR in the mark-up area just under the radio buttons. You select different radio buttons to see color changes for text, links, etc. I use this as an added test each time I get a new version of Java. Of course, I also use this to determine the color-codes to use on my Web pages and in Word documents. I don't think the link rendered correctly since there is no little ring in the large colored circle or slider or radio buttons... just some text. Okay, you have a problem with your configuration. I got what I described by selecting the link from your earlier reply, just to make sure that you had the correct link. One last suggestion before major surgery: Try running SeaMonkey in Safe Mode. Then access the old Password Manager window in the following way. 1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Edit Preferences]. 2. On the left side of the Preferences window under Category, select [Privacy Security Passwords]. 3. On the Passwords pane, select the Import/Export Passwords button (added by the Password Exporter extension). 4. On the Import/Export Passwords window, select the View Saved Passwords button in the lower-left corner. I have been informed that the Permissions tab shows if a domain has Never Save set for passwords. I tested that, and it does work. Thus, I have marked my bug #670938 as resolved. SM 2.2 and Extensions
I just installed SM 2.2 and found more extensions broken merely by the version number. With four profiles and four broken extensions in each, it took me about an hour to tweak them all. Part of the problem is that Add-ons Manager apparent no longer allows a generic declaration in install.rdf for the application to which the extension can be installed. Instead, a specific declaration is required for each application, which must be identified by a hex code number (92650c4d-4b8e-4d2a-b7eb-24ecf4f6b63a for SeaMonkey). Also, in some cases, it seems that Add-ons Manager no longer allows * as a wild-card in the minimum and maximum version numbers. If I have to do this again 6-8 times a year, forget it! By the way, I did not tweak DOM Inspector. Version 2.0.10pre is not compatible with SM 2.2. Unless someone can convince me I need it or can provide an OFFICIAL version that is compatible, I will delete it by this time next week. -- David E. With four profiles and four broken extensions in each, it took me about an hour to tweak them all. Installing the Extension Compatability Reporter [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/] will actually try hard to keep all the extensions enabled, but you also have the issue that any actual application changes can still cause extensions to break/break-the-app. But it lets you override this stuff without needing to manually change any files. It allows it (generic declaration) but AMO does not, so most extension authors don't use it. AND if there is an app-specific declaration the Addons Manager uses that and NOT the generic descriptor, Also the auto-bumping code doesn't use that at all. (at least from AMO side) If I have to do this again 6-8 times a year, forget it! We have plans to try and get the auto-compat-bump from firefox implemented for us too, its just a matter of finding human time for someone from the Firefox team to tell us details, and find out where we have to *do* this etc. (do we need to use our machines, can we use theirs, what do they need from us or us from them, etc.) By the way, I did not tweak DOM Inspector. Version 2.0.10pre is not compatible with SM 2.2. Unless someone can convince me I need it or can provide an OFFICIAL version that is compatible, I will delete it by this time next week. Official version is on AMO, and will be ready (approved) probably no later than tomorrow. the one we ship *is* compatible, but unfortunately its not checked as we check against AMO if the internally shipped version is the same (and thats all core code). That said, if you don't use it you can safely uninstall/disable it. -- ~Justin Wood (Callek) ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
