This is getting to be way off-topic for Seamonkey, but I'll note that
several years ago, I had a Canon printer. When I moved to Windows 7 from
XP, the printer was old enough that there wasn't a Win 7 driver for it,
but I found that it worked just fine (from Windows 7) using an XP driver.

Windows 7 is nearing end-of-life. Do yourself a favour, and switch to
Windows 10. That is the only Windows version that will be maintained,
Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 have no future.

Yes, it does require a bit of learning, but after a while you don't know
any better.

After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 I noticed that my (quite
powerful) laptop was much faster and snappier. That is still the case
with Windows 10.

According to Microsoft, Windows 10 is the last Windows version, there
will be no new ones, just major upgrades.

Put as much memory as possible in your laptop (at least 8GB) if you can
afford it.

Having a desktop and not a laptop, having no touch-screen, not wanting
my usage history sent back to Microsoft, and using old software that has
no new versions but will not work with Windows 10, I choose to stay with
Windows 7.

My wife's PC does not even have the hardware capacity for Windows 7.
She still uses Windows XP. That is helpful because our Canon scanner is
still in excellent condition and is installed on her PC because I cannot
find drivers for it to work with later versions of Windows.

I'm working in the ICT, and over the years I've heard numerous excuses
why someone didn't want to upgrade. So, nothing new here.

If you want to continue using operating systems that are unsafe, because
they are no longer updated with security patches, than that is entirely
your own choice and your own responsibility too!

Well . almost!!

At the moment, I have four SeaMonkey windows open, Chatzilla, Mail &
News, Browser and this Compose window.

So I have four Icons showing in the Taskbar, however, when I mouse over
any of these four Icons in my Win7 Taskbar, I get four selectable
screens, one for each of the SM windows ... but I guess this is a Win7
problem not SM!!

Just noticed ... If I select one of the Toolbar icons, the four screens
display but the selected screen has a Red 'X' in the top right to close
that particular screen!!

Consider:
* Most state mandate that drivers have liability insurance.
* Employers are mandated to have worker's compensation insurance.
* If you live in a flood zone, flood insurance is mandatory.
* If your home has a mortgage, fire insurance is mandatory.

Why then is mandatory health insurance so bad??

Are you talking about icons (as in Jonathan N. Little's screenshot), or
tiles in the taskbar?

In the first case, he's probably right; I've never seen that.

In the much more likely second case, if you're talking about taskbar tiles:

1) Right-click an empty area in the taskbar (if you don't have any,
close applications until you do). If "Lock the taskbar" is checked,
uncheck it. If it's not checked, skip this step.

2) Right-click an empty area in the taskbar and choose "Properties."

3) In the dialog that appears, choose the "Taskbar" tab, where you'll
see a pull-down button with the following options (one of them will be
showing, of course):

[Always combine, hide labels]
[Combine when taskbar is full]
[Never combine]
Choose the desired option. Click "Apply," then "OK."

4) Lock the taskbar using the technique described in step 1. This will
prevent inadvertent changes.

1. Right-click on an unused part of the task bar and select Properties
from the pull-down context menu.

2. If it is not already selected, select the Taskbar tab on the Taskbar
and Start Menu Properties window.

3. In the pull-down selection list for "Taskbar buttons", select "Never
combine".

Note: All task bar buttons for the same application (e.g., SeaMonkey)
will always appear grouped together. I know of no way to separate them.
 Furthermore, they will always be in the order that they were launched;
you cannot reorder them.
