I believe media autoplay has to be enabled.

You are correct.  It did not work for me until I toggled
media.autoplay.enabled to true. Worked fine after that.

Amazing. I don't even have such a key in about:config, but it plays just
fine for me.

I don't understand ... if media.autoplay.enabled is set to true, we must
be able to play the video manually by clicking on the triangle-arrow
pointing to the right.

Why can we not play it manually ?

I can.

Should we use media.autoplay.enabled false and media.manualplay.enabled
true ?

I don't see a manualplay pref.

With "media.autoplay.enabled" set to true, the video doesn't play unless
I activate the play button.

With the pref set to false the video doesn't play at all.

You should leave "media.autoplay.enabled" set to true.

I began by disabling all video plugins (Flash, Shockwave, VLC) to make
sure they weren't required. But I didn't disable AdBlock Plus.

I tried again after clearing cache and still got no result from clicking
play button.  All video plugins are enabled.  I couldn't find a setting
relating to autoplay (though I prefer not to have videos autoplay
anyway).  I use Windows 10, if that makes any difference.

I found the media.autoplay in about:config. Setting it to true did

a Retry button or "X" to close the message.

Retry button just gives me the error again. Clicking the "X" sent me to
a blank page with a spinning throbber like the page is trying to load.

Setting Tracking Protection from Always to Only in Private Windows and
trying to reload the page gives me another message, "Oops! In order to
watch Crackle videos, you’ll need to disable tracking protection on your
browser.", with instructions on how to do that.

Since it is already disabled I clicked the "Ok" button and I get a

FWIW, I got the same Initialization Failure message when I tried with SM
2.49.1.
