Why
would you think it's a fake? That version of Ultima was released after Ultima 3,
IIRC. It can't be THAT rare...

I didn't really think it was fake, I was just
entertaining the posibility. Because of it's popularity, the Ultima series
hasfallen victim to somefaked items on ebay in the past; this one
looks fine to me, was just double-checking with the knowledgable to see if
perhaps someone sees something about the auction that I don't.

Fairly rare shrinked new, and highly in demand, even an unsealed UI 1986 rerelease complete is usually a $120-200 item. Bag of coins is most important/valauble. Platform does not affect price much on this one.

I recognize the seller, he's bought from me before,
plus he's got a bunch of other good items up. I'd say it's far more likely the shrinkwrap job would be non-original
than the box. But this seems like the real deal, it's got the shrink seal
on 3 sides, like my sealed Origin Ring Quest.

Fake Ultima items you say? I'm intrigued,
please tell more. B-)

The pictures are not the best, but it is probably a re-wrap. Look at the
diagonal pictures supersized: On the one that shows the bottom edge, the seam
is crooked. On the one that shows the top edge, you can see box wear on one
edge of the box. I'm 99% sure this is a re-wrap.

I also used to work at a software store, and the not for resale copies were
usually almost always incomplete. They were delivered to stores so that
employees could take them home and get familiar with them.

I would personally value this at $60-$70, but no more.

Hmm, I don't know, if the holes in the wrap he mentions are the small circular holes I've never seen them on a rewrap, only originals. Usually 1/4 holes, he does say they are different size which is strange.

So can originals, the 3 sides alone doesn't prove it's a rewrap.
This is true.

Personally I thought this looked more like the light reflecting off the wrap
on small ridges (for lack of a better term). The seller himself says
there is no wear (he is specific, not using the generic MINT) and he
describes the hole that is often the telltale sign of an original job.
I missed the hole description (although having different size holes is a bit
odd). And on further examination, you could be right about the light
reflecting. (What terrible pictures!)

I've noticed this, a lot of review copies are software and docs only,
missing the trinkets and props, or at least the catalogs and errata. So...
if it's original shrinkwrap, how much does completeness matter (assuming one
can even tell B-)?
Well, it would be up to the collector buying it to know it wasn't complete ;-)

It's at $125 right now -- very curious to see how much it goes for. I hope
the winning bidder knows what he's getting...
