Disciples is a great game. Disciples II (due out shortly) is on the list of games I'm anxiously waiting for (along with Heroes of Might and Magic IV). The only problem with Disciples was that it never had a large fan base, which meant it was REALLY hard to find people to play online. with HOMM III you can ALWAYS find a game on the zone. RE: [SWCollect] My curiosity is getting to me... (an OT extra)
Ugh, it's been so long since I've played. However, I remember I liked Undead a lot because of their ability to paralyze. That won a lot of battles for me. One thing that impressed me though, was the balance of the game. I had a lot of fun learning to play all the sides...and was eventually equally successful with them all. However, I found Dwarves to be the most difficult. It is indeded a very interesting game, with the exception of the Jagged Alliance series, I've never seen any game blending the RPG and Strategy types so well. Re: [SWCollect] My curiosity is getting to me... (an OT extra)
Oh, what a shame... You see, recently I tried to come up with a good 1st person RPG that had LAN (either by TCP/IP or IPX) support so I could play with my stepson over our home network. There are _no_, I repeat, absolutely _no_ 1st person RPGs with LAN support whatsoever, with the exception of Elder Scrolls: Battlespire, and that one has a severe flaw: no chance of saving the game before you finish one entire level (we took 2 hours to try to finish the first level, and when we were about 80% there, the game crashed on the computer that was playing the server). So, many 1st person RPG either a) had advertised multiplayer support but never implemented it (Descent to Undermountain) b) had net support but no lan support (Yserbius) c) have nice LAN support but the RPG elements were completely gone (Legends of Might Magic) I'd say there's something really important missing in the RPG world... :( Pedro R. I know that at least chars run slower with plate mail than with leather armor, etc. There are a few minor differences, but the first person perspective does make targeting that much more of a factor that can't be regulated with stats. Re: [SWCollect] My curiosity is getting to me... (an OT extra)
Actually, this topic reminded me of a similar question, what games are you all looking forward this season/next few months? I've remembered about this because this weekend I've received a CD full of demos of upcoming / already released games (Lightweight Ninja, Legends of Might Magic, Gorasul (german version), Stronghold, Patrician 2, Magic Mayhem art of Magic, Throne of Darkness, Kohan: Ahriman's Gift...) I must admit I found the Lithtech 2.0 engine on Legends of MM very impressive, and Throne of Darkness is a nice action-RPG that shows several differences from Diablo, but the game that really impressed me was Patrician 2. Hats off to Ascaron for such a detailed game with such a nice interface and level of detail. It's been a *long* time since a strategy game has made me forget all the RPGs I have at home calling my name! ;) Pedro R. I must admit I found the Lithtech 2.0 engine on Legends of MM very impressive, If you want to see an impressive use of Lithtech, check out No One Lives Forever... truly the best game of last year. Legends of Migh and Magic didn't take full advantage of the engine and was a terrible game on top of it (don't do what I did and spend good money on that dog aaahhh!) I have seen NoLF, seemed like a regular 3d shooter, so I skipped it. Despite the game's hypothetical flaws Legends of Might Magic looked nice, so I'm already imagining what 3do can do with the new version of Lithtech (2.5) for Might Magic 9... Since the demo is too limited, let me ask you: why didn't you like Legends? Is it a simple shooter? Are there no RPG elements in the game? Pedro R. Re: [SWCollect] My curiosity is getting to me... (an OT extra)
I have seen NoLF, seemed like a regular 3d shooter, so I skipped it. You should give it a try. I'm not normally a 3D shooter fan, they all seem to be the same thing over and over again, but NOLF adds a bunch of nice features, including levels were your objective is sneaking around surveilance cameras without being caught, stealing items, etc. Tons of scripted events and a very solid story. Definetly worth a look. Since the demo is too limited, let me ask you: why didn't you like Legends? Is it a simple shooter? Are there no RPG elements in the game? Legends is basically a low quality version of Counterstrike in a fantasy setting. I bought it because of a preview that touted small story based missions with lots of interaction and a huge overall epic that it all fed into. Seems the developers noticed the success of Counterstrike and simply dumped all other plans for the game. You have rescue the princess missions and the like, but they are just like capturing the flag pretty much. In the end the RPG elements are dressing at best. Very dissapointing. Although any character class can use any weapon, they have advantages and disadvantages with those weapons, so for example a Paladin is better with a sword than a Sorceress... according to the information on 3do's page, at least. Now I just wonder if those advantages are easy to spot or not. I know that at least chars run slower with plate mail than with leather armor, etc. Pedro R.
