RE: Accessible Driver Updater?

2015-04-19 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi James,

You're most welcome. I can't say this for sure, but I don't think it would
replace drivers on your system until you actually ran it.
Indeed, I'm sure the utility has the best of intentions, but I suppose that
in my case it simply goofed and so I paid for it. Smile
Still, I think it's best to upgrade drivers by seeing what the
manufacturer's website has on a per-device basis.
And as for primary hardware devices, like hard rives, memory, etc., I would
say that if it's working, leave it alone, which is an old reliable adage,
for me. Smile
Ah, experience is a wonderful teacher, isn't it, if we learn the lessons it
offers. smile

All the best,

Rod

Rod,Thanks for your detailed discription of what happened.

I have a friend who just discovered Driver Detective on her system. She is
certain that she never installed that software. Up on my reccomendation,
she deleted it. I hope her system doesn't go down. I'll email her and
suggest that she might want to consider backing up her important files.

Thanksfor the heads up.

Hi James,

Complete failure of both drives.
It started with the primary drive starting to get errors, and Windows
prompted me to backup the drive since clearly it was failing.
So I backup that drive, and then the same thing happened to the secondary
drive, a totally separate drive in the other drive bay.
Had to start from scratch with brand new drives.
What a nightmare.
I figure the Driver Detective simply installed the wrong drivers for both
drives and this unbalanced the msomehow, causing them to fail.
Never again. Smile

All the best,

Rod

Hi Dave,

I lost two hard drives on the same PC using one of those utilities.
It was called Driver Detective, and this goes back probably seven or eight
years ago.
For this reason, I don't recommend these utilities at all.

Subject: Accessible Driver Updater?

Hello to the List,

I have a Win 7 64 bit system, running Win eyes 8.4.

Almost every time I use this system, some time during the usage, I
loose Speech.this happens mostly when I am using I.E. 11 and
attempting to read a web site.

However, the system can loose speech, or Lock up and any time, it
doesn't always happen when surfing the web.

I have considered upgrading to Win Eyes 9.1, but am still going to
wait for a 9.2. I don't want to trade fixes for one problem, and get
some new ones.

I have done everything I can think of to make this system as clean as
possible, trying to not have software conflicts.

I thought I would download and use one of those programs that update
all Drivers found on the system.

There are several of these kinds of programs, and some are probably
better than others.

Have any of you used one of these programs, and was it read well by
Window eyes?

If you had good results, and was not over whelmed with Pop Ups and
other odd things happening after using such a program, can any of you
recommend what worked for you?

Thanks,

Dave

Reading Speed in Read-to-end

2015-04-19 Thread gosselin_louis via Talk
Running Win-Eyes 8.4 on a Windows 7 Desktop. Recently I did something,
don't know what, and suddenly my read-to-end wasn't working. Well, I've had
that problem before, so I managed to figure out where to go to fix that.
But I'm also finding that I can't slow the reading down or speed it up when
in Read-to-end mode; Pressing u or d just stops the reading altogether.
Where do I go, and what do I do, to restore the u and d keys' on the fly
functionality in read-to-end, please?

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately, nothing has changed in regard to accessing the message
content of my Outlook 2007 email.

I have noticed one thing which strikes me as rather strange. As I am
reviewing message content with the mouse keys, it is quite clear that what
represents the content of several different emails. Today, I clearly
noticed that while reviewing one specific email, I found fragments of at
least 2 previous emails. One I had just read, and another had content from

Strange, although I doubt that it sheds much light on my problem.

Have a great day.

Also, I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but the last time I ventured to

Sounds like NVDA would be a good backup for those times when WE just wont

make sure the enhanced insert key layout is off. this undefines read to end

is this a laptop or desktop.
check to see if you have a intel display. if so you have to first make sure
the screen is right side up. then find the display properties and turn off
the short cut keys that rotate the screen.
the desktop layout uses the same control alt and arrow keys as w e uses. i
don't know what the keys are for a laptop layout.
the intel graphics uses the same keys as w e uses to change voice settings

RE: outlook

2015-04-19 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: Open outlook and shift+tab back to the list of folders.
Arrow down to the deleted items folder and hit enter on it
Hit shift+f10 to open the context menu and arrow to the item labeled empty
the folder, hit enter and if asked if you want to remove the items hit enter
on yes.
I think these hot keys are right, this is off the top of my head and if they
don't play out as mentioned post up and I will verify the correct key
combinations.

Hi Jim,

I'm curious to know if our Outlook 2007 and WE9.1 issues mirror each
other.

after I installed the WE9.1 version, I completely lost access to the
content

of Outlook messages with the arrow keys. I can review the basic content
with the mouse keys, but this very much limits my editing capability,
activating hyperlinks, etc.

I have updated all the appropriate apps, as well as MS Outlook options. I
have gone so far as to run the Outlook repair options, however, that gave
me

absolutely no info as to whether or not anything was repaired. From all
outward appearances, the repair did nothing as far as access goes.

I think my next option is to uninstall and then reinstall my full Office
2007 package. Have you tried any other ideas that you might care to
share.

Thanks and best wishes.

Dave L.

One I had just read, and another had content
from

another I replied to.

Strange, although I doubt that it sheds much light on my problem.

Have a great day.

Hello list.
I have a new computer that just has usb 3.0 ports and need to get some
kind of adapter to use some old 2.0 usb appliances I have.
Is there such of a thing as a usb 3.0 to usb 2.0 adapter and if there is
does Window-eyes work with a lot of the software that is needed to set
up such an adapter?
