Re: Need an answering machine software solution

2016-04-20 Thread Joseph Hudson via Talk
Hello, something else that works to. Is Time Warner has something called answer
anywhere. It is basically a list of phone numbers that you can Aaron on their
website. And then whenever it is turned on, all those phones will start
ringing. Dean on the first phone that you configure to do this it will be in
charge of receiving the voice mails. You can easily go back to that phone, And
check the answering machine that way. Or you can look it it's caller ID
evidence and accessible cell phone like mine is. I Love this feature for
whenever I happen to be out and I'm expecting a phone call.

Hey Rod,

I don't know if this will fit your needs, but here's my setup.

For caller ID I have two methods. My cordless phones (Panasonic I think) have
audible caller ID. And be it that the phone companies are trying to drive
everyone off of land lines I switched my land line to my internet service
provider a couple years ago for a fraction of the price.

I can go to their site and look at my call history. And they also convert my
messages to text and send them to me via email. Of course I still get the audio
message on my phone. So it might be worth looking into.

Hi,

I have a good quality USB modem which has worked well up to now for a
software-based talking call display solution on a land line with the help of
the Ascendis Caller ID software (http://ascendis.com).
What I would like to do now is to use either a Windows 7 or Windows 10 machine
to set up a software-based ansering machine.
Ideally, I would like the software to answer the land line, play a greeting,
store the caller's message, and notify me via SMS text message and/or email and
even attach the voice file to these messages.
I have tried an application called Phoner (http://www.phoner.de), and I can't
quite get the answering machine to work.
I would love to hear anyone's experiences and suggestions on this topic,
knowing full well that this is not an easy problem to solve, especially given
that such a solution would need to be accessible via Window-Eyes for me to be
able to use it effectively.

Thanks so much,

how to get things out of junk folder and another limbo folder

2016-04-20 Thread Linette Sukup via Talk

For some reason, Thunderbird has decided that some messages, which are
rather large, are junk. This has never happened before. How do I get
them out of the Junk folder, and how do I keep this from happening again?
Also, there are a couple of messages that I thought were accidentally
deleted. No, they were in a sort of limbo folder between Archives and
Junk. Again, how can I get them back into the inbox where they belong?

Thank you. I will hush and go.

Peace.

RE: Drop-down boxes

2016-04-20 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk
Hi Mickey.

I find this aspect of web access problematic, and I've never had success with
Audible. I think there are variations in how pages are designed.

I went to my bank, which uses drop-downs for some of the menus.

If we are talking about the same thing, the best that I have found is to press
enter (to ensure that browse mode is off) and then alt-down-arrow to open the
pull-down. Arrow up and down for specific option. Sometimes, Window-eyes will
turn browse mode off as it thinks the pull-down is part of a form, but this
isn't guaranteed. Java gets in the way as well, because information is being
updated as you make selections and enter data.
Browsers vary as well: Neither Firefox or Internet Explorer behave consistently.

Hoping I'm somewhat helpful at least - it is just something which seems very
clunky.

Good luck.

Vaughan.

I added a dozen numbers and when I came back to the excel file, WE9.4

control alt w was still not functioning which, for me, means WE9.4 is

Does anyone know what is going on?
If I am starting WE9.4, why is it still corrupt?
I find that when WE9.4 is not behaving properly, and a restart is not

only fix.
Is this an isolated incident, or you getting other users complaining

Lastly, is their a fix?

Hi to all,
First of all, thanks to all  who sent the short cut to turn WE9.4 off;
however, closing WE9.4 with the short cut given or with my kill WE9.4
batch file, and then restarting WE9.4 gives me the same result.
WE9.4 still will not restart with control alt w.
The issue is that I believe WE9.4 becomes corrupt.
The symptom is that control alt w no longer restarts WE9.4.
When all is well, I can press control alt w many times and WE9.4 restarts.
When WE9.4 stops reading an excel file and control alt w does not work,
I believe WE9.4 has become corrupt.
I also found that coming back from sleep, WE9.4 becomes corrupt and
control alt w does not work.
I rebooted my computer then when WE9.4 started speaking I control alt w
and We9.4 restarted.
I then put my computer to sleep and after awhile I woke the computer and
control alt w did not work.
Something has become corrupt.
I no longer put my computer to sleep because I noticed things did not
work correctly, and I believe that control alt w not working is proof
that something has become corrupt.
Am I wrong?
Has anyone else found that putting the computer to sleep corrupts your
WE9.4?
Many thanks,
Manny

Hi,
I was reading an excel file, and I open the windows 7 calculator.
I added a dozen numbers and when I came back to the excel file, WE9.4
would not read. I control alt w and nothing happened. I ran my batch
file to kill WE9.4 and started WE9.4 and it did read the file, but
control alt w was still not functioning which, for me, means WE9.4 is
still corrupt.
Does anyone know what is going on?
If I am starting WE9.4, why is it still corrupt?
I find that when WE9.4 is not behaving properly, and a restart is not
responding to control alt w, I reboot the computer because that's the
only fix.
Is this an isolated incident, or you getting other users complaining
about this problem?
Lastly, is their a fix?
Many thanks,
Manny

Hi,

An easy method of copying large blocks of text when not using browse mode is to
firstly download the WE app, "Select Text." When installed, move to the
beginning of the text, press the asigned key, move to the end and press shift
assigned key. This will highlight the text block which will allow the text to
be copied, deleted etc.

As it is quite a while since installing the app,I can't remember what the
default key is but mine is currently set to F9. The app is brilliant and would
not like to be without it.

HTH

RE: Cortana

2016-04-20 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Larry,

Using Cortana is equivalent to what you did before when you used to press
the Start button in previous versions of Windows and typed in things you
wanted to search for;
in fact, they now refer to doing searches from the Start menu as invoking
Cortana.
Also, I suspect that the difficulty you're having in getting her to
understand you is you may have your microphone recording level set too high
and so you can try turning it down to 60 or so.
The keyboard shortcut for invoking Cortanaa, at which point you hear the
chime and so you can begin your enquiry, is Windows-C.

2016-04-20 Thread Dave via Talk
Hi Chris,

Yes, I did try the same solution that someone else shared yesterday, and
what do you know, Maximizing the Window fixed the problem.

I tell ya, I know a fair amount about computers and most of the
operating systems since DOS to the current, and I still amaze myself at
just how Dangerous I can be, to myself and others!

I never once considered Maximizing the window because when I wrote an
Email from Scratch, it all worked fine, so I thought the edit window was
fine.

Who would have thought the edit Window would be different from the one
used when starting an Email from Scratch?

but thanks for the help Chris, and Thanks to who ever shared the same
suggestion a day or so ago.

the Amazing Grumpy Dave

Three beeps when I'm booting up my computer

2016-04-20 Thread Bob Tinney via Talk

Chris,

My Windows 10 computer does not beep when I'm shutting it down, but
every once and a while I get three ascending beeps when the computer is
booting up before W E loads. What does that mean?

Bob, K8LR, tinn...@charter.net

On 4/20/2016 9:28 AM, Chris Grabowski via Talk wrote:

When you shut the computer down, you are moved to the secure desktop. The copy

you hear the beeps.

There is one way to stop this from happening but the disadvantages out way the
annoyance of hearing the beeps IMHO.

Go to general/start up/set startup options and uncheck run Window-eyes at the
login screen.
Doing this you will not get the password prompt read, if you don't have a
password, you might say big deal. You will not get the Windows updates
message read either, so if your computer is doing Windows updates and it
reboots a couple of times, you will not be aware of this and you may think your
computer is crashed or not doing something.

Larry. I am unable to answer your question concerning why Windows 10 users
now hear three descending tones when shutting down their computers. Chris
Grabowski has explained this issue over the phone to me, however, that
doesn't mean I remember his explanation. Chris, a memory refresh would be
great! The answer to your question of what can be done to fix the issue is
nothing, well, not yet, anyway. I am used to the ascending beeps and boops
by now, whether I like them or not.

Dear listers,

Still a few fun and games I suppose after the W10 upgrade. I am
getting three descending beeps (beep, bop, boot), when I go to shut down my
computer. As I was given to understand when these beeps were ascending, it
might have had something to do with the video card. At that time, I was also
having issues with WE accessing and making use of my apps, and went through
the drastic step of a system restore. Now since I only upgraded last
Saturday afternoon, I don't think that it would benefit me much to do that,
because If I did, I might end up with a pre Windows 10 environment, or would
I?

I suppose that if this is really nothing to be concerned about, especially
if it happens on exit, then I wont, but it is a bit disconcerting to hear
these kind of things just popping up for no known or logical reason.

Any help in solving this little puzzle will be greatly appreciated,

Larry

Re: WE9.4 becomes corrupt and control alt w does not work

2016-04-20 Thread Jeff Weiss via Talk
I have seen control-alt-w not working many times. When this happens, if I
go to the desk top, whatever item I was last on is frozen in place.
Usually I can press control-insert-f4 to close Window-eyes, wait just a
minute, and then re-start window-eyes with control-alt-w. This usually
fixes the problem for me.

Subject: WE9.4 becomes corrupt and control alt w does not work

Hi,
I was reading an excel file, and I open the windows 7 calculator.
Many thanks,
Manny

Ever sense I installed Windows 10 on my HP laptop I have heard those beeps just
before Window Eyes starts up. Sense It seems it doesn't effect my computer, It
doesn't concern me. Window Eyes starts just after that. There was an update
to win 10 and that's when I noticed the beeps. It tells me window eyes is
coming up. I get the reverse upon shut down so I'm not concerned about it.

Larry

Thanks Chris, that is very helpful. I think I can get used to the beeps.

Go to general/start up/set startup options and uncheck run Window-eyes at the

For an audible notification of completed downloads in IE 11 you'll
need the IE Enhance app. It has options in the App menu when IE is
open for sounds and automatic reading of the notification bar, which
can be manually read with Insert-N and moved to with Alt-N. I thought
it was installed by default. but if not here's a link to the download
page.

If you're using Firefox or Chrome I can't remember if either have an
audible notification. I install Firefox only as an alternative and
haven't installed it yet on my new system. And I've never used Chrome.

Tom

How do I access the inhance app?

Linette,

To center text in Jarte you can select it and hit Control-E. It's the
same as Alt-O Format, P Paragraph, Center paragraph.
It's best to do it after the fact. For example, if I type one line of
text in a new document, select it, and center it, all remaining text I
add is centered unless I remember to go back into Format, Paragraph,
and uncheck Center paragraph.
