That's what I do, also. That's actually, what they taught me in computer class. Some times I think to use windows+d, but hardly ever. I've noticed that with 8.1 there was an actual window for the desktop, and honestly, I found that a bit inconvenient. I don't remember exactly, but it seems like I remember the desktop being in its own window in 10 for a while, but I'm really not certain about that. Could somebody refresh my memory. That might have changed with an update. Anyway, I so far am a happy camper with 10. On 5/19/2016 4:28 PM, via Talk wrote: You can't get to the desktop using alt--tab, but windows-d works well, so do that instead and you should be good to go. David Crowell via Talkwrote: Hi Everyone, I downloaded Windows 10 to my windows 8.1 computer last week and have been happy with it except for one small problem that I am hoping someone can help me with. I am a person who usually has several programs open at once but since I updated to Windows 10 I am unable to do this anymore. I always would open one program then use ALT TAB to go to the desktop to open another program and open the new program and use ALT TAB to bounce back and forth between the programs. But since installing Windows 10 I am not able to do this. For example if I am in Microsoft Outlook and press ALT TAB I go to Window Eyes then if I press ALT TAB again I return to Outlook but I do not go to the desktop. This is becoming very frustrating to me because I work from home and I often need to have more than one program opened at a time. I wrote to the support team of ASquared last night and they sent me a message early afternoon today telling me to go to WE, go to apps, arrow to diagnostics, then refresh accessability libraries and once that completed to reboot my system. I did this and it made no difference at all on my system. I will say though if I have a sighted person like my spouse open another program for me on my computer that I need then using the ALT TAB I can bounce back and forth between the programs with no problem. It is just getting to the desktop with the ALT TAB that is the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated because it will relieve a lot of stress from my already stressed mind. Butch, We still have mouse keys in Internet Explorer. It's one of the reasons IE is my default browser. So I'm not sure what you're missing. Yes, Amazon has become a bit dicey over the years. Re: Searching from the start menu will now only launch Edge for web results
Stephen, I apologize for returning your attack. I should have turned the other cheek. I'll ask you one very simple question. Can you give me one single real world reason how lack of access to Edge today is impairing your ability to work or use your computer? I'll take your word that some apps can use only Edge. But in the real world Windows apps are a joke. And yes, Microsoft can make Edge the default for searching using their start menu in their operating system. They have every right to do so. It does not hinder anyone in any way. Microsoft will eventually make Edge accessible. They cannot force you to use Edge, which they are not doing now. That was settled in court many years ago. If you're irate because you can't use an app, what can I say? This is the world of blindness wherein this is common regardless of the platform you're on. From Microsoft: "Internet Explorer 11 will be supported for the life of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10." https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/End-of-IE-support It will be years before everyone is on Windows 10. And it's the only place Edge is available. Regarding your stream of personal insults? I'm a programmer for the North American division of a German fiber optic company as well as the town I live in. This is why I'm on a computer all day. I have compassion for those who are unemployed. It is very difficult for a blind person to find work in this world regardless of their qualifications. Life is not and never will be fair to all. I apologize for the initial statement of my opinion, but only to you. I had no idea that such a simple message, prefaced in the way it was, could wreak such havoc. Please hit Delete whenever you see my name on a message. Or better yet, create a filter to dump me in the trash. Not strange at all. From the beginning of man's existance, he has tried to manipulate his environment to suit his wants and needs. that won't last long. microsoft itself says bing and edge will be the only choice for the cortana search engine you will have. no matter which browser you use as the default. it sounds like you haven't got all the recommended or optional updates installed yet. -Original Message- From: Bob Tinney via Talk Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2016 8:00 PM To: Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: Searching from the start menu will now only launch Edge for webresults Steve, I just tried searching from the start menu by both typing in to the search menu and by using voice. Re: Searching from the start menu will now only launch Edge for web results
Yep, and no matter what they come out with, we're told, upgrade, upgrade, this is better. I still miss mouse keys in explorer. I was trying to order some stuff on amazon this evening and couldn't get logged in, this was on a windows seven machine and latest explorer. I finally went back to my xp and old explorer and although it barked at me about some script slowing the page down, it worked fine. Re: W10 64 settings
Hi Michael, Thanks for your reply. Seem to have gotten rid of WE saying checked on the Desktop icons but not so the path or info statements on the Desktop icons. If the WE control panel tool tips are set to auto, some icon paths are still spoken. Re: WE9.4, Windows 10 and Alt TAB
As for me, over the years, I have more than developed the habit of using windows key+m which minimizes all programs, consequently placing me in the desktop. I download the latest version of iTunes 12.4 which came out on Monday, have noticed the changes in the menu bar you can get to it by hitting the alt key on the keyboard but window eyes does not tell you what part of the menu bar you are on. Instead you have to hit the alt key on the keyboard then depending where you are at you have to use the either the left or right or the up or down arrow keys on the keyboard and once you start doing that window eyes does say context menu it does open up in to the menu then once that happens then using the left or right arrow keys you are in the menus you just have to know where you are at to figure out what part of the menu bar you are at since the main part of the menu bar does not speak anymore. I wonder if the iTunes app has to be updated or something. Other then that I can still use it it is just a little bit tricky but it is due-able. Can't remember your password? Re: itunes 12.4 with window eyes
Hi Steve, I thought you may like to know that some Apple accessibility advisers are advising people experiencing problems with 12.4 to switch to WE. While it might be a nice plug, the accessibility of some of the list boxes is no better with WE, so new users may be turned off if they blame AI. You might want a word with Apple so they don't set you up for a fall inadvertently.
