Re: minimum system requirements for WE 9.4

2016-07-12 Thread David via Talk
AMD or Intel, should be no trouble. I have run both interchangeably,
with no noticeable difference. As for speed of the CPU, I would not go
under 1.6, and definitely look for a duo or even quadro CPU system. When
comes to memory, RAM, I would strongly recommend you don't do anything
under 4GB, but if you can get more it will only benefit you. Make sure
your harddisk does run with at least 5400 RPM, as anything lower will
slow down all hard disk activity, of which modern computing has a lot.
Even a few milliseconds on each disk access will amount into several
minutes on a working day.

Since you are on a low budget, I would actually suggest you consider
looking on the net for good second-handed or refurbished laptops. Many
times you can get really good deals. For instance I am right now typing
on a Dell laptop of the business class kind. It is by no means
super-modern, and has its small limitations, but I got it for well under
400 included shipping, all refurbished, and have used it now for close
to two years. If you find you have anything left on your budget - after
buying the next PC - I would suggest you look at an SSD, to replace the
hard drive. It is up to ten times faster, and all your startup and
loading of data, will be running swiftly.

Do you end up with the choice of a high-speed CPU, or an SSD drive, I
would have gone for the SSD.

But for all the parameters, try to get as much as you can for your
money. Buying new, cheap and wanting good specs, you will have to forego
certain things. Cheap new computers often are flimpsy in their
construction, all cased in cheap plastics. They may not have the best
cooling construction, causing the computer to run overheated, and the
fan to speed up soon as you demand much from the unit. Again, a reason
to consider whether you could be better off in buying a one or two years
old computer, paying the same price, but getting a higher classed model.

Lastly comes what you have for personal preferences as to manufacturer,
size, weight and physical appearance. As you may have noted, the list
has lately been swarming from messages regarding keyboards and their
layout. So make sure you get a PC with a keyboard you can live with.

Hope any of this helped you out somehow.

David

If you open the system tray with Insert-S, arrow down to the speakers icon,

Turning it down will at least make your experience more tolerable. smile

Hey Rod,

I could be wrong, but I think he might be aware of how to control the
volume in Winamp, via simply using the up or down arrow keys on the
keyboard. What he might not realize, depending how long he has been
using Windows 10, or even back to 8 for that matter, is that the mixer
allows you to work with the master volumes for all audio apps, and yes,
even those that aren't audio apps, like Thunderbird in my case.

I have run into this very issue on occasion, and have had to
immediately go to the mixer, then all things become louder and clearer
. Then his 100% setting will no longer sound like 50%, or what
ever his settings happen to be at the time.

I installed winamp on this new windows 10 computer. Here’s the
problem I’m having. When I play a audio file with winanp, it’s audio
levelplays at a much lower volume than windows media player, itunes
and groove music. I used the up arrow in winamp to increase the
volume to it’s maximum level.

Re: iTunes 12.4.1 problem

2016-07-12 Thread Chris T via Talk
I agree about trial and error, but I've stopped regretting the upgrade now
that I've been using it for a while. They added something I have been
begging for for nearly a decade, an item in the context menu when one is
focused on a song or book or whatever that is labelled add to device and
then has a drop down menu that allows one to select a device. It has made
adding media to my devices so much easier. They also have this for playlists
and since I have discovered how to make a video playlist with my movie
and/or TV library so that I can run movie and TV marathons, I have become a
big fan of at least that part of iTunes 12. I do, however, wish that they
would clean up the appearance and thus the way things are read. It can be
frustrating tabbing around in circles until one comes to where one wants to
be.

Chris T

I regret upgrading to version 12, from 11, but I have found that, through

how to get things displayed as I wish.
It is literally trial and error, my friend. Smile

Hi Guys. I have downloaded the new iTunes 12.4.1 program, and once
everything was up and running, I wanted to search for an artist in my music
library. However, after pressing enter in the search box after typing in the
music, The applue music comes up, rather than your regular library, even
though everything is set to my music option and not the new option which
refers to apple music. Any clues on how to fix this using itunes with
Window-Eyes? Thanks, Sky.

Re: Wimamp problem

2016-07-12 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

Russ,

You should go to the volume mixer, and there you will find volume
controls for all devices you have open, all the way down to your email
client. If Winamp is open, you will find it there too. When You do, you
will probably notice that it isn't set all the way to 100%. Just get it
up there, and then you should have complete control of your volume in
Winamp proper. These ar in effect, master settings, that is those in the
mixer.

Never give up on Winamp, until it gives up on you. It is still a great
player.

Re: Wimamp problem

2016-07-12 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
Hi russ

Press control+p for preferences, find output plug ins in the treeview,
and tab to the one you're using - Wave or Direct Sound. Tab once more
and press spacebar on "configure". Tab through there, exploring the
various tabs, and you should find reference to "volume control". Make
sure this is checked. In the Wave output plug in, there is an
alternative volume control, if you don't want Winamp's volume to change
as, for example your screen reader's speech volume changes.
I still love Winamp because of the plug ins and their configurability.

Is it possible you have turned up your volume for system sounds in the

If you open the system tray with Insert-S, arrow down to the speakers icon,
right click it and arrow to open volume mixer and press Enter, you will be
in the dialog where you can find the slider to control the volume of system

Turning it down will at least make your experience more tolerable. smile

Frequent bell rings

2016-07-12 Thread John Farley via Talk
Dear list,

I am using Windows 7 Pro with Window-Eyes 9.4 with IE 11 and Office 2010.

On almost every key stroke I make there is a bell ring noise.
I cannot recall what I did to enable this and therefore cannot recall how to
disable it.

Can anyone help please?

Regards, John
