I have been using the free version of AVG for some years and have
experienced the deterioration of the interface but it is still usuable. You
may have to use the mouse sometimes. to get done what you wish to do. For
instance, in order to be able to interact with the icon in the notification
area, I have to route the mouse to it and right click before I can tab
around to read the various items available. One button seems to be missing
from this list and that is the yupdate button.

Once AVG updates to 2017 you'll lose the classic interface and be stuck
with Zen. In other words, the nice accessible AVG interface is pretty
much gone.

Well, I am horridly crazy for my own good, and a slap on the wrist for
being a nonconformist.

I have always used Avast Free Antivirus on all my computers! I got it set
up, and I forgot it. It updates itself without bothering me, except when
renewal becomes necessary at the end of one year. Beyond that, I'm just one
very, very happy camper!

I've heard some good things about Sophos, but I have had no need to give it

Window-Eyes DID NOT quite read the Avast screens too well, so I pleaded the

good evening List,

I am still trying to figure out which antivirus/security program would
be the best fit to keep me safe while working with Window-eyes.

One person suggested Avira, gdata, sophos and vipre are accessible. In
my research, I did not find any of them listed as on the top 10
antivirus/security programs. Can anyone correct me or give me input on
why I should use one of these and which one??

In my surfing, I found David goldfield's Blind Planet page. He
suggests choosing an antivirus/security program that protects and not
just because it works with a screen reader.

He recommends Kaspersky. Although he had issues installing the latest
Kaspersky with NVDA, he was able to navigate it with NVDA in order to
change settings. From the sound of it, the ability to run a scan and
update the program are accessible. Having a sighted husband, the
install would not be an issue for me.

Hi,
You can try Sophos.
home.sophos.com
You can use it for free on up to 10 computers if you are a home user.

The last time I checked, GData from Ggdata-software.com was accessible.
Avira is also accessible. www.avira.com

AVG changed their interface to Zen and removed the classic interface, so
it is no longer accessible.
vipre from www.vipreantivirus.com is also accessible. You can get a pc
lifetime license of Vipre on ebay for around $25.

Hello List,

soon it will be time for me to update my antivirus program. In my
research, it appears that AVG has been bought out by AVAST. In the pc
magazine reviews, AVG is no longer even reviewed and is not in the top 10.

Norton, MacAfee, Trend Micro, AVAST and Bitdefender are five that I
remember from the list.

are any of these accessible with Window-Eyes?

Can anyone recommend a program that protects and is accessible? I'm not
interested in Nod 32 because version 10 is not accessible, and it is too
expensive to install on two computers.

Also, I know in the past the GW staff seemed to be in communication with
AVG and succeeded in getting some issues fixed so the two programs would
play nice. With things as they are, how are accessibility issues being
handled with any virus programs?

Back in the day, GW staff would be able to advise me on these issues.
I'm hoping some folks on this list will have some answers for me.

Thanks for your help,

brenda

Antivirus programs with window-eyes

2017-02-06 Thread Brenda via Talk

Hello List,

soon it will be time for me to update my antivirus program. In my
research, it appears that AVG has been bought out by AVAST. In the pc
magazine reviews, AVG is no longer even reviewed and is not in the top 10.

Thanks for your help,

brenda
