Re: [Diversity-talk] Code of conduct

2020-12-08 Thread Rebecca Firth
Hi Heather,

Thanks for setting that up - I'll need to jig some things around but really
hope to be able to join that meeting. Some people had already started
working on a statement to share. I am sharing here for allies to add
comments they would like to raise, and to identify people who are keen to
move this work forward:

The form clearly states 'We prefer you upload your videos to YouTube, but
will accept submissions on other platforms (such as Google Drive) should
YouTube not be available in your region.', we're happy to receive videos in
other formats if some groups would like to do that, they can get in touch
with us to confirm the approach they'd like to take. Similarly, if people
want to record a video in another language we can do our best to find a
translator who would be able to add subtitles on the video in English.

We decided last week to extend the application period to allow more time
for groups to prepare their videos. This is reflected on the online form,
blog, and HOT Twitter.

Thanks,

Rebecca

[OSM-talk] HOT Microgrants 2020 - Call for Applications

2019-10-02 Thread Rebecca Firth
 Hi,

Very pleased to announce the call for applications for HOT Microgrants 2020
! HOT wants to support the development of OSM communities worldwide through
providing small grants to assist their activities. This year we're
providing Microgrants at 2 levels; $200-1000, and $1000-7000 USD.

The form to pitch your project is relatively simple, and you can reach out
to microgra...@hotosm.org with any questions. Pitches are due by *9 October*.
More info: https://www.hotosm.org/updates/HOT-launches-Microgrants-2020/

Thanks,

[OSM-talk] HOT Microgrants 2019!

2019-02-05 Thread Rebecca Firth
Hi,

Very pleased to announce the launch of HOT Microgrants 2019! Many OSM
communities around the world are achieving amazing results on zero or
near-zero budgets. HOT wants to support the development of these
communities. This year we're especially focusing on projects which improve
regional support for OSM communities, working with local authorities, and
engaging with local open data/tech communities. We're looking to provide up
nine Microgrants between $2,000 - $5,000 USD.

Please find all details, including program changes for 2019, and the
application form on the website:
https://www.hotosm.org/updates/2019-hot-microgrants-program-empowering-local-openstreetmap-communities/

[Diversity-talk] Microgrants for OpenStreetMap Communities

2018-12-14 Thread Rebecca Firth
Hi,

HOT is working to improve diversity in OpenStreetMap through providing
Microgrants to communities wanting to grow/scale local mapping in lower and
middle income countries, but who lack resources to do this. Diversity is
multi-faceted, and we're pleased to have been able to grow local
contributions in lower- and middle- income countries, and maintain a
relatively even gender balance, with over 6,000 new mappers trained by
microgrants so far.

This December, we're running a fundraising campaign, aiming to raise
$40,000 to support 10 new Micrograntees in 2019. If you'd like to know more
about previous Microgrants, please check out these videos from Tanzania
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW3v18ZJYDg=8s>and Mozambique
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS7C_9D7EjQ=2s>, and if you'd like to
make a contribution, you can do this at donate.hotosm.org.

100% of donations will be used to support more communities to continue
their efforts to make sure no individual or community is left behind by
fulfilling their basic mapping needs such as access to the internet and
training sessions.

Thanks,

Rebecca

[Diversity-talk] Diverse conferences need you!

2018-04-12 Thread Rebecca Firth
Hi

The HOT and FOSS4G community have been working hard to develop the
conference Code of Conduct for the upcoming event in Tanzania (
http://2018.foss4g.org/). The goal is to ensure the conference is as
welcoming and safe as it can be, and maintain a commitment to diverse and
inclusive conferences. Part of this means hosting conferences in countries
where HOT works as an organisation and where there are strong local OSM
communities. However, this does raise important concerns about safety and
security for attendees. We hope a re-drafted CoC will help all future
events happening in countries with similar local laws to Tanzania, to
ensure they can protect the interests and security of attendees as best as
possible. SOTM Africa, future, SOTMs, etc etc..

The Summit/FOSS4G Working Groups have a re-drafted policy and would love
feedback from an as-diverse-as-possible group. If you're keen to support,
please get in touch with Amelia and Rachel in copy, who will send you a
copy of the policy and gladly hear your feedback.

Thanks,

Rebecca

Hi,

International Women's Day is tomorrow. Supporting gender equality and
ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all contributors is one of
HOT's main objectives. This blog shares 7 different ways you can help to
support gender equality in OpenStreetMap this International Women's Day:

Re: [OSM-talk] New tool/API to find local OSM mailing lists by location

2017-11-26 Thread Rebecca Firth
Hi,

I can see this being really useful, thanks Edward!

Echoing what Joost said, it would be great to be able to see more
information on the community, and also possibly to see more than one result
e.g. if I search a city, it could be useful to see the mailing list for
that location plus the country / regional one?

On the Missing Maps website we tried to do something similar to make it
easier for people who want to run mapathons to connect with other local
volunteers who might be keen to support them and grow the local community
further - http://www.missingmaps.org/host/#helper-map-contents (you can
sign up at the link if you're keen to join).

Thanks,

Rebecca

[OSM-co] Becas para celulares/portatiles

2017-11-03 Thread Rebecca Firth
Estimado Amigos,

[OSM-talk] Apply for a Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Microgrant

2017-02-03 Thread Rebecca Firth
Hi All,

This week, we’re excited to launch the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team
(HOT) Microgrants programme
<https://hotosm.org/updates/2017-02-02_hot_microgrants_programme_launches_0>
!

Many OSM communities around the world are achieving amazing results on zero
or near-zero budgets. HOT wants to support the development of these
communities, through providing funding for basics. For example, GPS
devices, internet access, and training costs. We're looking to provide up
to ten Microgrants between $2,000 - $5,000 USD. Our goal is to enable the
development of local OSM communities, to increase skills, capacity and
experience. We will award grants to projects which broadly contribute to
HOT's mission.

More details on the programme and the application form can be found here
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s9ltOxx_0jkJdQW1uqv9oXoF8cV9ryK8TH87Vv4de4M/edit>.
HOT support will be provided before, during and after the grants period.
Applications must be received by 12th March 2017.

Please share this to individuals or organisations who might be interested
to apply. We are looking to support communities in Southeast Asia, South
Asia, Latin America/Caribbean and Africa, but will consider other locations.

Get in touch with any questions, or email microgra...@hotosm.org.

Thanks,

Rebecca
