Re: [Talk-se] Hydda Full

I'm afraid I can't give you any guarantees regarding the timeframe. Nor do I
know of any alternative style to Hydda, that's sort of the reason for it
existing in the first place :D

Our server has very limited computing resources compared to the amount of
requests we're getting. The speed you saw before the upgrade (and that we will
get to soon again) is due to several layers of cache. Since clearing these
caches about 12 hours ago we've had a constant queue of about 1000 requests for
non rendered tiles per style we're serving (hydda_full, hydda_base and
hydda_roads_and_labels). Parallell to that we're also running pre-rendering of
low zoom for the whole world to get z0-6 out there as soon as possible.

My guess is that it's going to be pretty quick again within 24 hours from now
as people tend to request the same tiles.

However, if you want to be 100% sure that you have a speedy Hydda-style map up
and running by Saturday you could set up your own server with data limited to
the area covered for your scorecard and pre render the same way we do.

*Thank you very much for the response! *
I'm not sure how long "the next few days" will be, and since our scorecard
release is Saturday, I still seek a backup option that has many of the same
attributes as Hydda Full.
- Blue ocean
- Not displaying big roads when zoomed out
- Roads are dark enough to be seen under a partially transparent layer when
zoomed in
- A sense of belonging in the background, no big loud labels

I don't really know where to start, since nothing at
https://leaflet-extras.github.io/leaflet-providers/preview/
quite fits the bill. The most muted I could I could find (that still has
blue ocean and ability to see the streets under a transparent layer) is
 Esri_WorldTopoMap, but not ideal

I don't know how to style basemaps, though I've seen that MapBox makes it
possible. I just guess there are so many attributes to style that it would
be a pretty time-consuming.

Would be helpful if there were "similarity" measures for the common
basemaps...

A note: I see now that the tiles work when zoomed in one more level so
that's an improvement...

Hi Margie,

don't worry, it's due to server upgrades.

[Talk-se] Hydda Full

2017-09-12 tråd Margie Roswell
I love Hydda Full, but today it stopped working for me.

for instance, http://scorecard.mdlcv.org

When I move to Carto Positron, I miss the blue ocean, and when I move to
some others, the roads outside of Maryland attract too much attention.
Also, any of the pale basemaps don't let people to zoom in and see some
roads underlying the semi-transparent state. (Viewing the roads is helpful
for folks who want to know where the district boundaries are.)

I'm sorry, I don't speak a word of Swedish, but Hydda Full has been my joy,
until today.

Is there a way to restore Hydda Full? Or is there a way to style something
else to make it look like Hydda Full?

Thanks,

Margie

P.S. looks like it's even down at http://openstreetmap.se... for a second a
few tiles loaded, but now I just have grey where the map would be...

Nu är disken med ny planetdatabas på plats, men den har mycket att göra och
kommer vara lite seg på att returnera tiles i en dag eller två. Nästa gång man
uppgraderar så här hårt kanske man borde göra en parallell installation på en
ny VM i stället...
