It's very annoying to search new messages when the threading by
 sender is active...
I organize my Inbox this way and when I get new messages I have to
search through the whole Inbox to find the right thread that
 contains the message.

How about using the navigation option ... move to next unread message.
It was specifically designed for drilling down to find new messages
within threads and in threads scattered throughout a message list.
CTRL-] of CTRL+Alt+right arrow will do this for you.

This could provide a solution until the whole thing is resolved.

The problem with the solution I offer is that you have no control over
which new message is read first in that you may wish to read new
messages from a particular sender first.

Yet another temporary solution would be to use the mail ticker. It
will display the new messages for folders which are configured to use
the ticker. If you wish to view the other messages within the thread
for a new message, then double-click on the new message and another
folder opens showing the thread. When you're done, you just hit escape
and you're back on track.

Interesting.

I've never threaded by sender, but are you saying that in former
versions, threads containing new messages would be moved to the top of
the message list, leading to easy retrievability?

Spellcheck bug?

2001-12-22 Thread Erik F

tbbeta list,

Has anyone noticed the following bug? When spellchecking a long
email, if I have to ignore/edit a lot of words, there is a severe resource
drop that occurs. Once the spell checker is closed, everything
returns to normal.

This is happening on windows 98, with TB! beta 19, but it has happened
with previous versions, along with 1.53d. Is this a known issue?

IIRC yes.
But I tested it only for threading by sender. Maybe the normal
threading behaved in another way, I don't know.

 Good question.

BY THE WAY!

People... Why not asking the Bat! developers to adapt Bat for working
with, say, SQL databases? That would COMPLETELY solve the database
performance question, as far as you'll be able to store your mail on a
corporate Oracle 9i server running on a 32-processor Sun server. And
it will be completely seamless!.. I consider it to be a great idea.

There is another bug in spellcheck for those who use CSAPI. Every second
time the spellcheck does not work. For a mysterious reason it is grayed.
And not only that, if you choose another language (not CSAPI) then you
can't use CSAPI. To use it again you have to close e-mail composer, open

The Bat! - bug report

2001-12-22 Thread Nick Andriash

Hello The Bat! developers,

  I'm using The Bat! Version 1.54 Beta/19
  Serial Number DD0BD4BA
  under Windows 98 4.10 Build 67766446 A
and would like to report a bug

  The bug description:

Again I consistently plagued with the problem of accessing
Options/Preferences/System and if you want to choose a new Font but then
change your mind and hit the _Cancel_ button, the resulting dialogue box
become hidden behind the main screen, forcing the User to right click
the Task Bar icon... any other choice simply results in standard Windows
error beep... to bring the Preferences Dialogue box back on top. This
time if you choose _Cancel_ again, the box disappears and you are able
to continue working with TB.

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

Attemp to change the Folders Pane font, but when presented with the list
of fonts available, hit _Cancel_ instead.

GUI Problems with Beta 19

2001-12-22 Thread Ron Mura

Two problems with the interface in beta 19:

- When I click the small carat to the right of the Get New Mail and Send
Queued Mail buttons, nothing happens. The drop-down list of accounts
does not appear. This problem was introduced in beta 19. Can anyone
confirm?

- When using the Message Dispatcher with an IMAP account, it's
difficult to click a checkbox with the mouse for a message
that is already highlighted. It has to be clicked several times.

There is no problem clicking a checkbox for a message that is not
already highlighted. There is no problem with a POP3 account. This
problem has been in the last few betas.
