IMAP improvements (Re[2]: The Bat! v2.11 Beta/5 is now available)

2004-05-14 Thread Rojer

AM Additionally, when other folders sync and messages are added, the main
AM window steals the screen focus. Very annoying so a downgrade underway
AM now.

MW Yes, I've seen that behaviour too.

yes, i noticed this issue too.

HOWEVER, i must say, AT LAST i see some REAL improvement over IMAP.
I haven't tried the filtering yet, and I think I won't bother after
all I have read here, but the IMAP sync no longer causes TB to freeze
for quite some time as it used to! wow ;)

No, really, it is all much better now ;)

and (obviously) TB-specific fields

xbatNewTemplate
xbatReplyTemplate
xbatForwardTemplate

JA I can search by any part of the string in a name, and it'd load it

...
JA Maybe that'd be the reason? :)
Yes, because Exchange2000 (AD???) uses LDAP v.3 _and_ The Bat speaks on
v.3 too. Exchange 5.5 uses LDAP v 2.5 and, AFAIK, handling of 8-bit data
differ in these versions

If anybody can confirm, what The Bat in LDAP-3 servers can find and
show 8-bit correctly, I'll became happy

Chat folder - Marking messages as read and message count

2004-05-14 Thread Costas Papadopoulos
The instructions to create a Chat folder were not very clear. It
should have been stated that the necessary menu is found by right
mouse button clicking rather than in the main menu.

Anyway, I notice that the Unread message count is shown as bold even
though I have marked the watched messages as read in both the VF and
the actual folder concerned. Shouldn't they be marked as read and then
the Unread message count only show newer incoming messsages that are

No, it isn't. I've tried searching for the same string using Text

You'd think that it'd come pretty close, bearing in mind the Text is
in the message source, or at least should be... Though you'd probably
get unusual behaviour with HTML only mails... Text could be very good.

Another wish

2004-05-14 Thread Munango-Keewati

A minor suggestion--

I sometimes write messages that contain information I'd like to store
in Quick Templates for later reuse. Something like the following
would speed up the process:

To create a quick template from text, select text in a message, RMB,
select Make Quick Template. Quick Template window appears with
selected text entered.

To turn an entire message into a Quick Template, same procedure
without selecting text. TB automatically adds appropriate macros for
From, To, Subject, etc., which can be edited as necessary. (A full
size edit window would be appreciated.)

It would also be nice if Utilities Insert Quick Template could be
assigned to a shortcut key.

Anyone else think these would be useful?

True, which is why I'm trying to understand them conceptually.

JA I understand, but it is a bit of a chicken and egg thing. There are
JA no real world equivalents, so it is hard to describe without using
JA some technical terms.

If you call your Windows Desktop the real world, there is. If you
create a link to a file on your Desktop, you have this little arrow at
the lower left-hand corner. This means that the file itself doesn't
exist on the desktop, but only a reference which points to the
actual file. You can have many such links/references to the same file.

If the reference points to a location that is outside of your computer
somehwere on the internet, we call it a URL. So, if you receive an
HTML mail with a picture and that pic is not sent with the mail, an
AREF tag will point to where it actually is. (And TB will show the
famous red X.)

It is the same with Virtual Folders. The messages are not actually
sent to the results list, but only links/pointers/references to the
messages are kept.

When you filter with the Sorting Office, the messages themselves are
moved into the target folders. That's the difference between nortmal
and virtual folders.

 - The tag line is random.

importing .tbb from write-protected place failed

I've just found that importing letters from another .tbb file which is placed in
write-protected storage (cdrom, write-protected folder) is impossible. The Bat!
just hang in this case for a half a minute and says that converted 0 messages.

However, if the same source .tbb is placed on write-enabled storage, the
importing is success and the .tbi files is created in the same folder where the
source .tbb is.

Even though I am not using IMAP, it seems to be an ever-more important
functionality for email clients. Glad to hear that you are working on
it.

ST also appear in that folder

Now that is cute. Will it remain half-implemented, like the Unread tab
which I cannot use because the message currently being read will
disappear upon the next mail check? Are you going for an award for
The most half-implemented features in an email client? The IMAP
implementation, which many people say they cannot use in a
professional environment, will certainly give you the major boost for
that award.

As for the Unread tab, I don't think that keeping the message
currently being read in the preview pane active (i.e. exclude the
currently open folder form a refresh) can take more than a couple of
minutes. Giving the folders shown their account names (i.e. just not
showing the folders that do not have unrtead messages but keeping the
account tree intact so that I know which Inbox it is that contains
the unread message) may take longer than a few minutes, but it is
certainly worth investing that time in order to finish one thing - and
*then* go on to the next.

The way it is, the Unread tab is a nice idea, but unusable. It belongs
in a beta version, not in a release version, and these little annoying
shortcomings which make it unusable, should have been ironed out in
the next beta. That is what beta is for: The testers test, the
developers fix. Not: The testers test and comment, the developers
ignore and implement something else half-way. And I see this is
beta/5, so you haven't even bothered to look at the bug reports...

Hello Dierk,

When I decrypt a message the special characters (like ä) get
 converted to Hex-values.
