Reply function simplification

2005-07-09 Thread Alexander S. Kunz
Hello everyone,

we've just been talking on TBUDL about this, and I wanted to bring this
wish to public attention again:

https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=2486

Its about automatic quoting only selected text if text is highlighted.

This would simplify the reply function a lot, as only two menu entries,
keyboard shortcuts etc. would be needed - reply and reply to all.
Everything else with ...quoting selected text would not be needed any
more.

As I said on TBUDL, this would be more natural in a natural email
system... IMVHO. :-)

Reply to address

2005-07-09 Thread Marck D Pearlstone
Hi TB Beta list members,

Reply to sender and reply to this address is not working at all for
me. Is anyone else seeing this?

If I pick a message from a mailing list and ask to reply to sender, I
get a reply to the list. If I right click on any address in the header
or the body, and pick Reply to this address I get a message to the
list.

No, of course I don't use folder templates!!!

I make extensive use of AB templates and have quite a sophisticated
message formatting default template. I can imagine the macros in my
reply template kicking in and overriding the address I have chosen by
basing their work on the default message reply address.

It's because the TO address isn't set before the reply macros start
working.

This is a pretty bad bug actually. Any confirmations? Any previous
reports / BugTraq entries I've missed?

Okay - you have snipped the second part - the real part - where I
explain that any manipulation of the TO address requires an address to

No, I cannot confirm this. Like you, I also use different sets of complex

appropriate quick template on the base of To address. I don't use folder

Both Reply to sender and Reply to this address are working in all

Can't confirm, both are working fine for me. With this exception that

the mouse.

I had the same for a while, buggered me quite a bit, until I found out

The silly thing was that it never got triggered, since I was using AB

for several days and now I am getting an incorrect login or

Re[6]: IMAP users: auto disconnect

2005-07-09 Thread Vili
Hello Gary,

Maybe this auto disconnect thing is IMAP server dependent...
According the the IMAP RFC (3501)
 .4.Autologout Timer
If a server has an inactivity autologout timer, the duration of that
timer MUST be at least 30 minutes. The receipt of ANY command from
the client during that interval SHOULD suffice to reset the
autologout timer.

Exactly, I have read this in the RFC, also :)

What I meant was that the disconnect command is sent to the IMAP
server, but my server does not accept it for some reason, i.e. does
not answer, while in Stuart case, that does answer...

However, I tested on two servers :)))

Re: IMAP: Server side outbox

2005-07-09 Thread Vili
Hello Allie,

I switched to using a server side outbox to see how things are going
 with using it.
Each time the message draft is to be auto-saved while composing, I get
 the following error:
 - !9/7/2005, 14:06:42: IMAP - 1: Could not compose the message for
uploading Please verify the amount of free disk space Integrity checking
of the folder Outbox would not be a bad idea

I dont have it... In return if I open a draft mail, it is empty... :)

I too have had variable responses with this and TB! It is not consistent,

quick disconnects from the IMAP server for no apparent reason, with no

It is not the server fault as you probably surmised. :)

Hey Wayne, glad to see you on TBBeta. I know you from the Dopus list.
Anyway, I just tried getting on the Beta Site and had no problem at
all, but I didn't need a password or username. This is the url I went
to: http://www.ritlabs.com/en/tbbeta/

But if you are speaking of the Tracking site, I just went there also
and did have to enter my username and password. It is at:
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/main_page.php

And one last thing. Had a real hard time trying to find your message.
I thought it was a new subject, but in fact I guess you replied and
didn't change the references. I finally found it under the IMAP users:
auto disconnect string. :)

Starting with a new subject you should select New message fumction instead
of Reply. Replies have information about the message to which they are
referenced, this is the replied messages ID. Therefore original message and
all replies make thread which can be displayed in message list (see
attached picture for more details).

Actually your first message is not reply, but you used reply function and
therefore it was inserted into thread unrelated to the subject.

 Yes, I'm getting access denied.

No problem here, for either the password protected download site or
the Bug Tracker site.

Once, long ago, I did have such problems. Either Marek or Maxim had to
intervene to straighten them out. I think once your account is messed

Press F9 to view the source code of your message. You'll find two
headers, In-Reply-To and References, the first one contains the
message-id of the message you are replying to, the second contains all the
message-ids of the previous messages in that conversation.

I assume you have a separate folder where you filter this lists messages
to. Select your own message in that folder. Press ALT+1 and see where your
message is. :-)

This function is called threading (ALT+1 is a shortcut to the menu item
View | Display thread by... | References), and maybe you'll agree that it
is a very handy feature.

Sorry didn't mean to really mess things up here. But as the
others mentioned and has been explained fully, I use the threaded
mode more with mailing list, including Dopus, to make sure I follow
the subjects and see the replies before moving to another subject.

And what I meant by following your message, basically was, I read
through all messages first and then if someone has not replied to a
question, I will go back and find the message that needed
answering, such was your case. But when I looked for your Subject of
Accessing the Beta Site, I couldn't find it in the subject
headers. What I ended up doing was using the Search feature to find
your name and that worked perfect. :)

Anyway again didn't mean to confuse you with the references, as you
found out, we shouldn't change them anyway. But maybe you will be
able to see the advantage of the Threaded mode The Bat! uses. As I
said before, it helps a lot with mailing lists. And I too am a
novice with The Bat! and it gets better all the time, thanks to the
great group of people here on these lists. Still learning...
