Help with languages changes

2005-11-11 Thread Giuseppe
Dear TB list, i have TB v3.62.14 and WindowsME.
This is my problem:

1) if i set TB with the languages English is possible the menu': OPTIONS >>
PREFERENCES;

2) if i set the languages Italian the menĂ¹: OPTIONS >> PREFERENCES is not
possible and i have any pop-up error in USER.EXE and TB close immediately;

This error is from version 3.51.xx and up.

If i change the file THEBAT.LNG in the version for 3.02.10 the ITALIAN language
is all ok.

Please it's uny bug of the Italian side of THEBAT.LNG?

Many Thanks for your interest to my problem.

Bye for now

What do you want to see? I just see the CC and hear my modem working -
until the CC says that TB is downloading mails. You do not see the
modem commands; is that what you want?

100% confirmed wiht the same settings. It's been like this every time
when I first download my mail, for many versions. Started sometime
during v2. However, only some (very few) people experience this but
most do not.

This is the trick: When mail downloading is finished and you want to
access TB, click on the (grey) top line of TB and hit alt-F4. Now TB
is responsive.

The other trick is that if you start reading mails during the initial
download and the CC goes into the background, TB will remain
responsive even when the download finished.

There is also no problem with subsequent downloads, only with the
first one when TB establishes the DUN connection.

I have confirmed that this is the case. If I set the default to None
under the View menu, and then send a message with Japanese in it, the
charset header is now correct (though the next header says "8 bits" when
it should be 7 bits for iso-2022-xx).

Re: Which Log?

2005-11-11 Thread Peter Ouwehand
Hello Alexander S. Kunz, Greg & others,

on Thu, 10 Nov 2005 23:40:44 +0100 (2005-11-10 23:40:44 in .nl) in the
message with reference
you [AK] wrote (at least in part):

ASK> If I understand the logging function correctly, it logs communication with
ASK> the server. If TB can't connect to the server, there's nothing to log,
ASK> isn't it?

If I remember correctly (...) the possibility to enable "Whatever
Protocol" log files were introduced at first due to (requests for)
IMAP trace/debug purposes.

I don't have connection problems worth mentioning, usually.

As a programmer, I'd say traces of successful actions are nice to
know, informative. Traces of failing actions are much more informative
though.

Ok, the "Whatever Protocol" logging may assume it only logs successful
connections, which, as mentioned before, are nice to know,
informative.

But, who's interested in successful connections only, if one has a
problem.

One wants to know when the email client _tried_ to setup a connection
to a server (date, time, IP/name, port, whatever else is important).

Then report if it was successful, log interaction, like:

[mmdd] [21:17:24.mmm] C: Trying to connect to 192.168.0.3, port 25
[mmdd] [21:17:24.mmm] C: Connected to 192.168.0.3, port 25
... other stuff
[mmdd] [21:17:25.mmm] S: 221 Server Closing Connection
[mmdd] [hh:MM:ss.mmm] C: Connection successfully closed

If not successful, also report such, including error details.

[mmdd] [21:17:24.mmm] C: Trying to connect to 192.168.0.3, port 25
[mmdd] [hh:MM:dd:mmm] C: Could not connect to the server
... whatever is important / helpful
[mmdd] [hh:MM:ss:sss] C: Closing connection / terminating attempt
(or whatever, as long as it's clear)

Saves people some headaches, comparing files with(out) date/time
stamps, finding when TB did(n't) connect or not.

I sure hope the importance of the _not_ / _fail_ part is somewhat
clear by now.

You know, we dont write too many Japanese mails :))

So, I tried it. This is what happens:

1. default charset is: None

when new mail window opens, I change the charset to JIS. If I dont use
special characters, the charset changes back to us-ascii . BUT: if I
use special characters, the header shows the Japanese (JIS) charset is
used... So, it seems to me that TB! "optimizes" the used charset: if
no special characters are used: set back to the basic windows-1250
charset, if special characters is used: use JIS charset.

2. default charset is: JIS

when new mail window opens, I type some special characters, save to
outbox, open again, set back to the basic windows-1250 charset.

BUG. Write a BT, I support it.

Wrong charset header

2005-11-11 Thread Wataru Tenga
Hello tbbeta,

I have a serious problem posting Japanese messages in The Bat! Even
though I have chosen Japanese (JIS) as the character set, the
 header information always shows: "Content-Type: text/plain;
 charset=us-ascii".

As a result, many email clients, including The Bat! itself, do not
 decode the Japanese text automatically.

I have chosen Japanese as the default character set, have set it in
the template, and as the account default. Yet the charset header
does not change. How do I fix this header?

I first noticed this problem when I started using The Bat!, at Ver.
3.50 or so. Now I'm using the latest (3.62.14), but the problem
 persists.

I sent in a bug report some time back, but no one seems interested
