Again IMAP Support (was: The Bat! 4.2 release)

Moin!

And: I think someone with knowledge about that posted that 4.2
will be the version with IMAP working. Obviously that was
 marketing.

 nobody told this,

Sorry, but IMHO these statements do not allow any diversity in
interpretation:

IMAP in the next release, so it was the first step. As soon as we
get this Beta series finished and the new format working without a
 problem, IMAP will be reworked.

4.2 is minor upgrade with more bugfixes than additions, yes,
postponed sending is available, but there are importans bugfixes and
this is reason this version was released as final.

IMHO RITLabs does not make any difference between major and minor
releases: Release is release.

The mentioned above statements were done during 4.1.x series, so the
next release would be 4.2.x, i.e. *this* release. By the way wasn't
it you, who had the same opinion some months ago?

Speaking of IMAP, I thought this was the IMAP fixing time.

as Stef wrote some weeks ago, IMAP will be focused in development
serie after 4.1 (current serie) will be finished.
 ·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—·—

Why is it often so hard for people to admit, that something
(repeatedly) went wrong?

IIRC, IMAP development will be continued AFTER the establishment of
the new database format. Which could mean anytime, from v. 4.1
 onward until v. 68876589.3245234.12341231.00457734 onward.

and it continued, even it is not visible yet. I can not tell more,
 Stef should do clear statement.

Yep, a binding statement from RITLabs would be highly appreciated!

Just for clarification: I am using four POP3 accounts and only one
IMAP account. I have sometimes little problems (aka pet peeves) with
IMAP, but no real showstoppers.

But obviously there are a lot of people, who have *serious* problems
with IMAP support. So, dear RITguys, please hear the voice of the
customer!

Just my two cents …

Cheers!

Okay, it may be overly unprecise my statement - but it got people
talking / writing about IMAP once again - that is my goal.
As long as Ritlabs does not official post a statement saying they give
up on IMAP implementation on TB! then i will not give up on buging them
(and maybe you) about it.

IMAP is one of the most important (business related) protocols and
now don´t start arguing that TB! is not meant for business clients! Why
then would Ritlabs produce their own professional version or even a
email server ?
POP3 is still mainly used because casual users and non experts only know
about it. If the broad public would actually know about the qualities
and functions of IMAP they would probably all want to switch. Why
otherwise would large companies that provide email services allow the
usage of IMAP?

I am tired of repeating and tired of having to list errors or report the
same things over and over and over again. Check the bug tracker yourself
and you will see alot of IMAP related bugs.

Finally - useless - it is. What sense is there in using a client - or
even wanting a customer to buy it - and having to tell them - but don´t
use IMAP! Even though the package says it supports IMAP - just don´t use
it.
If you want to use it - well then make ready for errors, no working IMAP
connections and so on how to fix it? welll Just close the
application and restart it... now that is great advice! Will tell that
my customers when they have a problem with a server or client OS - just
restart the computer it will fix itself!

I use IMAP and TB! on 7 Fastmail accounts and have not had any major
issues with it. There are problems with the message counts on my
laptop (but not PC), which constantly shows unread messages that don't
exist or negative message counts, but the basic functionality appears
to be OK. However, I have not tried any other IMAP mail clients other
than Snappermail on my Palm Treo 650, so I don't really have any basis
of comparison.

I found that the big problem with IMAP in TB! is the poor
documentation. As a newbie to IMAP, I found the instructions in TB
unhelpful and I wonder whether this is part of the problem. A clear
explanation of how IMAP should work in TB together with the options
would go a long way to making the implementation of it more pleasant
than it is now.

Of course, IMHO, as a still relatively inexperienced IMAP user.

this build called 4.2 was not planned in january and was released
now as requested bugfix version with some additions and Postponed
 sending. This is the reason.

Pardon me, but the customer – in this case it is *us* – does not
care about *internal* plans behind closed doors. The customer wants
to rely on official statements from RITLabs and not on rumors.

pardon accepted, but we in TBBETA are not only customers.

Oh, come on, Marek! If we are primarily *not* customers, what do you
think we are?

That’s just to raise the topic Clear Communication. Is it so hard
 to understand?

seems You care about IMAP only,

You do not read carefully: I just really care about good communication
and honesty.

As I previously said:

snip = mid:397284614.20090608113...@ahrendt.net

Just for clarification: I am using four POP3 accounts and only one
IMAP account. I have sometimes little problems (aka pet peeves) with
IMAP, but no real showstoppers.

But obviously there are a lot of people, who have *serious* problems
with IMAP support. So, dear RITguys, please hear the voice of the
customer!

/snip

but for example our customers requested version without problem with
DEP detection under Windows 2008 Server, version with fixed
incorrect handling of MIME boundary, versions with fixed templates
in filtering system, version with fixed quick templates in massmail,
version with fixed dragdrop etc. And this is 4.2.

Like this one introduced with the last beta cycle?

https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=7549

And I think that most of the people want the mentioned above
information in preposition and *not* afterwards on inquiry.

Cheers!

to rely on official statements from RITLabs and not on rumors.

But official statements can reflect good intentions, even when the

and I just joined the Elks.

Dear Volker,

pardon accepted, but we in TBBETA are not only customers.

Oh, come on, Marek! If we are primarily *not* customers, what do you
 think we are?

read carefully what I wrote. You are customer, but not only.

VA And a beta tester. So I have no right to get information in time? You
VA cannot be serious! It is just ridiculous!

Okay - let me interject in this thread to try to dismantle the tower
of babel that seems to be looming above us.

I think Marek means We are not *the* only customers (that RITlabs
has).

This is a truth. Here on TBBETA we represent a tiny minority of the
RITlabs customer base and I would suggest that we are hardly a typical
set of users.

Nobody is saying that you don't make a valid point, only that you
haven't considered all the factors at play.

this build called 4.2 was not planned in january and was released now as

If this is true, what will the excuse be in 4 or 5 months when 4.3
fixes the postponed settings, we can look forward to starting IMAP by
the time 4.4 is released next June, since it is the one real version
after the not planned version as the requested bugfix version, since I
don't see many bugs fixed yet in 4.2. The few of us who have been
waiting patiently since 2005 or earlier, instead of bolting to Apple,
Linux, Incredimail, Thunderbird etc, could wait until 2011 before the
promise will be perhaps officially broken?

windows 2008 server some how jumped the line behind the 2005 IMAP bug

The Bat Icon and Windows 7

2009-06-08 Thread Scott Sims
Hello.

The Bat! v4.2 still does not have a proper moving icon for
Windows 7.

It is becoming frustrating as I have to manually check if I have new mail.

Screenshot attached. (You can see The Bat's icon is not moving, even
though there was new mail in my Inbox.)

Windows 7 is very close to release, so I hope icon animation is looked
at really soon.

Kind Regards
