The TLS issue was driving me crazy. My mail server uses Let's Encrypt; could
not send mail from TB;
log kept showing the TLS certificate was expired.

Now, I can send mail again. Incoming was never an issue.

I've always run Microsoft TLS crypto on TB, no issues.
My mail server now uses Lets Encrypt for SSL certs for the various domain mail
it handles.
TB connection logging showed that the LE cert changed at a certain time, from a
cert good for
six months, or 90 days, I forget which, to a cert good for 20 years. When that
happened, TB stopped TLS-ing
with the M'soft default. Switching to TB option, all is good now.
Just thought the developers might want to know this Lets Encrypt behavior in
regards to TB.

U now. Hopefully forever.

Re: Plug-ins (was: Update on the Beta work for The Bat - Calendar function)

2021-03-19 Thread Stuart Pye
Hello Stefan,

Enhancements needed, for interacting with calendars: attached picture is what
needs to be covered.
Outlook is your main opportunity, as you know, to carve out a teeny market
share from ordinary users on Win 10,
as well as commercial users that have to interact with M'soft Active Directory
environments, without
being forced to use Outlook. Also, the requested calendar-posting capabilities
needed will cover users
having to work with Teams, Zoom, etc. So, Google calendar, Outlook/Exchange
calendar entries, and iCal entries
covers most of the bases that really matter.

Always great to run the Christmas Edition!

Have been running desktop Win 7 system on 8.2.4.5 for the last year, if

Have the V9 alpha/beta on a separate Win 10 laptop, also running the single

I run mail server programs in VMs in hosting centers, all on SSD
drives running Windows OS server versions. I doubt almost anyone is
running TB, a (desktop) client program, in VM instances on machines
running on their desks, such as laptops, much less TB client programs
also running in hosted VM server instances. So, am I crazy, or are
you? I really don't understand what changing how TB handles memory on
the client instance will do anything for the memory subsystems in
hosted mail servers, running bare metal or in VMs.

No disrespect intended.

Hello Bob,

BR TB only uses 30 MB of memory and Thunderbird uses 144 MB of memory.

I consistently see TB using 165MB of RAM to start, but I do have 2 POP3

that is the starting memory difference.

However, I also get Out of memory freezes every 1 or 2 days. At
those points, TB is using 1.5GB of RAM. I have to kill the process,
then restart TB. So, there is considerable memory growth in the latest
MSI and the .1 beta version. Maybe the developers should plug these
leaks?

The new .msi seems to have fixed the flagging. Even the folders that
would not keep flags after reboot sessions now hold any flags I set,
so I'm a _VERY_ happy camper. TB makes me excited and joyous today!
It's still the world's best email program, IMHO.

I ended up going back to beta 5.3.2.3. IMAP speed is back, the Manage IMAP
Folders dialog box pops up quickly, so life is good.

There are some inconsistencies: several mails in various folders stay
marked as unread, and I can't move or delete them, either. This is
somewhat a pain, because I depend on the bolded mail counts showing in
the folder tree to check that I've read important mails from various
clients and topics.

HELP!! can't get into my main TheBat.net (GMail) account: Account exceeded command or bandwidth limits. (Failure)

2012-11-28 Thread Stuart Pye
Hello TBBETA,

About 3 hours ago I stopped receiving mail from my main IMAP TheBat.net
GMail account. The error from TB is: Account exceeded command or bandwidth
limits. (Failure)

I was running 5.3.2.12 beta, so I backed down to, in order, 5.3.2.11,
5.3.2.10, then to 5.2.2.0, but there is no difference, the same login
failure occurs. I can log into the main
account with a browser, and mail is still coming in. Also, I have 2
other thebat.net IMAP accounts, which are still working fine from any
version of TB that I've loaded.

Below are 2 sets of logs. The top set are from the account that has
failed, the lower set, separated by a string of equal marks
(==), shows one of the other thebat.net accounts I
have that is still working fine. Also, my main POP3 account is fine.
Can anyone help me? The account that has failed is my main business
account, so this is a major problem right now.

Thanks,

Stuart Pye

There was no trash but I did delete some of the Sent mails. GMail
shows I'm using 1.8GB of 10GB space. Whatever,
now I _can_ get into the account using TB, but:

Mails now appear in the IMAP inbox, but they take 20-30 seconds to

The IMAP maintenance box doesn't show any subscribed folders in the

ST Hello Stuart,

Quick answer: I have folders, IMAP-on-Gmail (thebat.net) that have,
say, 100 files. Maybe 3 have flags. If I mark any more flags in the
foldere, the
new flags don't survive a clean shutdown-then-restart of TB. So, I
can't trust the flagging, because it isn't reliable. It doesn't stick.
Now I'm back on 5.2.2, which doesn't have the problem. I'll step
through the betas since then, to see where the problem starts, and
I'll test in multiple folders, ASAP.

TB is the most critical software program I've ever used, for more

flags on IMAP

2012-05-02 Thread Stuart Pye
Hello Tbbeta,

Using 5.1.2.2, flagging messages in IMAP (Gmail) accounts doesn't
stick. I use a several virtual folders, but flagging mails in the VFs
or in the actual folders doesn't consistently survive a restart of the program.
I
also mark messages, but if I go back to those folders within an hour,
without a restart of TB, the flags are gone. Sometimes the flags
disappear within 5 minutes.

POP3 folders flagging seems OK.
