[Reply to: »Maxim Masiutin« · 2009-05-02 · 03:06 h (CET)]

Moin, Maxim!

The postponed sending dialog is the graphical editor for the small
textual argument of the %POSTPONE macro, e.g. “+2h” means “add two
hours” or “8:12” means send on 8:12 today if it’s before 8:12,
otherwise send tomorrow on that time, etc. Did I understand
correctly that in your dialog, if I don’t’ want to specify the date,
I should select “Send in 0 days” radiobutton? And if I don’t want to
specify the time, i.e. just want the all the new messages to be sent
in 2 days, I have to specify “current time plus 0 hours 0 minutes”?

In iterative steps this matter gets clear! ;-)

So here is the next draft:

As immediate sending is the default, the dialog initially should look
like attachment [1]. The dialog for a postponed message should look
like attachment [2].

Is there still any confusion left?

Cheers!
VA

P.S.: @NetVicious: The radiobuttons are now one below the other. :-)

I agree with your suggestions. We should think how to implement it better.
Also, when the user selects %POSTPONE macro from the macros menu when editing a

For me it would be enough if the Dialog tells me This Message,
according to your choices in this Dialog, then will be sent at:

The problem is in this case the user will have to click the GUI for
each for the message sent, like in Outlook. We want to give an
option to to configure the postponed sending autmatically for every
message, so the user will simply press send button on the toolbar
(or the corresponding keystroke) and the message will be immediately
closed and scheduled for delivery. Your suggestion makes this
 impossible.

Okay, now here are my reworked ideas. And of course the first one is
 meant seriously. ;-)

A few more thoughts brought me to this real flexible solution (see

Your idea to use the tail ...and then send is excellent! But it gives another
complication. The user can combine hold over (2) days and use specific time
8:00 for, example, which means that the message will be send in 8:00 in two
days after today. Also, the user can combine hold over 2 hours and use
specific date 10/10/2009. In this case, the message will be sent on that
specific date, but the time will be taken from current time plus two hours,
i.e. if it is now 9:21, the message will be sent on 11:21 10/10/2009.

The initial version of the dialog that have used add days/add hours/add
minutes wast technically more correct.

Maybe we should use hold over anyway, not hold for in the begining of the
phrase?

But it gives another complication. The user can combine hold over
 (2) days and use specific time 8:00 for, example, which means
that the message will be send in 8:00 in two days after today.

This may be a nice try, but please keep it simple:

Either you want to send a message in x days/hours/minutes or at a
specific time. But please do not mix it up and confuse the user.

Instead of the mentioned above, one can say: Send message April 30,
8:00 h. – Where is the problem?

So maybe radio buttons for Hold over|for and Specific Date/Time
would be a good choice.

I just can repeat it: Please keep it simple and do not confuse the
user!

No, the idea is to combine both of the options.

Instead of the mentioned above, one can say: Send message April 30,
8:00 h. – Where is the problem?

The problem is in this case the user will have to click the GUI for each for
the message sent, like in Outlook. We want to give an option to to configure
the postponed sending autmatically for every message, so the user will simply
press send button on the toolbar (or the corresponding keystroke) and the
message will be immediately closed and scheduled for delivery. Your suggestion
makes this impossible.

The Bat! is a mail program for people who write bigger amount of messages than
the people that are using other e-mail programs or webmail. Also, The Bat! is a
program for the users that need lots of features missing in other programs. So
we have to provide very powerful and complicated features, even thought
sometimes such power and complicity is hard to understand from the first
glance. But this investment in time to play with these options and to
understand them pays out for thouse who seriously need it.

Hello Maxim,

Thank you :(

But it gives another complication. The user can combine hold over
 (2) days and use specific time 8:00 for, example, which means that
the message will be send in 8:00 in two days after today. Also, the
user can combine hold over 2 hours and use specific date
10/10/2009. In this case, the message will be sent on that specific
date, but the time will be taken from current time plus two hours,
i.e. if it is now 9:21, the message will be sent on 11:21 10/10/2009.

The initial version of the dialog that have used add days/add
hours/add minutes wast technically more correct.

I would not allow the combination of the two options. In my opinion it
can make things a bit confusing and it doesn't really add any
flexibility. The two options should be mutually exclusive. You EITHER
hold for x hrs OR pick an specific date/time.

I had to look in my dictionary what 'Postponed' ment. :-)
With f.i. 'Delayed' that hadn't been nessesary.

When adding a new delay item, above the description there's only the letter 'm'.
I suppose, that will be changed in 'Description'.

Further it seems clear enough.

But please don't mix it with drafts; draft messages should kept on hold in an
own Drafts folder, without any date or time. A draft message isn't ready for
sending, one can work on it another time. Imagine, you can finish it, when
you've cleared first some question and are waiting for someone's answer or
untill you've has time to visit a library, or ... your keyboard gave up and
you
need to buy first a new keyboard. :-)

Making a delay for sending a message can have other good reasons.

1. Another typo is in Temlate macro. The p is missing.
2. What exactly is the macro for a message delay? The user interface

Here it's my opinion.

When we are creating/editing delayed profiles I think the dialog it's
perfect.

But when we are defining a custom delay for a message I think the more
button should not be applied here. I suggest you to place the text
with the real date-time of the sending without pressing any button,
because it's a good way to test the info we set on the dialog. On the

applies.

Hello Maxim,

I didn't install the two previous versions, so I can't compare. But I
have to assume that current one is easier.

Anyway, I'll make a couple of comments that perhaps might be useful.

'Postponed Sending' is correct for the dialog title but, in purity, the
term 'postponed' would apply only to the first part of the dialog. That
is, 'Send in 2 hrs', or 'Send in 10 minutes', etc. Aside of that, the
word 'postponed' may not be understood by some (i.e. Gunivortus had to
look it up in the dictionary). So, my suggestion would be to make the
title be 'Postponed/Scheduled Sending'. This way, the 'scheduled' part
of the title applies to the lower half of the dialog because you are
*scheduling* it to go on an specific date and time.

Now, for the first part. 'Hold Over' is not clear and is not correct
English. It should be either 'Hold for' or 'Send in'. That is, 'Hold for
2 hrs' or 'Send in 2 hrs'. But if you want to make it as clear as
possible to the user, I would leave the upper block as follows:

--
Hold for...
( ) Hours ( ) Minutes ( ) Seconds
... and then send.
--

The second block would be much clearer if the block title was 'Schedule
to Send on Specific Date/Time'.

And for the third one (after clicking on 'More'), to be correct the text
should read:

If a message *is* postponed now, ...

My 2c.

I would be happy with, Send on Date/Time:

M If a message *is* postponed now, ...
I suggest simply, The message is scheduled to be sent on 27th April 2009 at

It is not clear to me just what is the need for Test against an arbitrary
