MB test, I don't think my drivers are the source of the difficulty.

Can you test that version with only one (and empty) account? If it
works, load your accounts and try to narrow it down. Remove virtual
folder, filters and stuff like that until it works.

How do you mean?

I have only two accounts in TB! Both POP3.

Do you mean set up another TB! account but with only the default folders
and settings?

And move my existing POP3 accounts (they're under MAIL) completely out
of the folder for The Bat! (it's under Programs)?

But I thought the Mail Ticker settings function across all TB!
accounts.

So what would the settings for the accounts have to do with the Mail
Ticker code not functioning in the three latest betas?

Remember, if I reset the Mail Ticker setting to Hide in v. 3.80.06,
and then install 3.81.03, .04, or .05, the beta launches and functions
perfectly.

If I then reset (within, for example, beta v. 3.81.05) the Mail Ticker
to Always, it immediately begins to flicker, is unusable, and then
the entire TB! window partially unpaints itself.

TB! freezes for most functions--including ability to change the Mail
Ticker setting from Always back to Hide--and I can only close it.
And, in the case of .05, must resort to Task Manager to close.

Furthermore, after I then close TB!, it's impossible to get back to v.
3.80.06 over 3.81.05, whether choosing either Repair or Modify. I
can return to v. 3.80.06 only if I either rename or delete the exe
within the TB! folder. Or, more drastically, with a System Restore.

I am a bit leery of moving my existing POP3 accounts out of the TB!
folder. There are saved messages within them that I would truly hate
to lose.

Anyway, I'm not completely sure that this is what you were suggesting
I do, Goncalo.

Please clarify?

I've enabled the mail ticker to test your problem and on exit TB! took
nearly 3 minutes to close. I saw, what suspect you've described, an
half painted main windows. It stayed like this for about 3 mins with

Glad I took the time to tell the problem in detail again, then.

I had a problem with the Backup system that no one else had and I had

Yes. I have one confirmation, from Stuart Hemming.

But unless RitLabs changed something in the Mail Ticker code,
beginning with v. 3.81.03, it's a needle-in-a-haystack search.

If they did make a change in the Mail Ticker code, then they could
simply compare 3.80.06 with 3.81.05 and narrow the cause of the
difficulty down.

That's if they have the time.

I could run v. 3.81.05 without using the Mail Ticker (set it to Hide
before installing v. 3.81.05). And I tried that--but I missed the Mail
Ticker's convenience too much.

I think if RitLabs doesn't fix this in v. 3.82, or before, that I
shall simply continue to run v. 3.80.06 and stop beta testing.

Although, I would, of course, continue reading TBBETA. It's always so
interesting here! :)

I read all the time on TBUDL about problems getting the Mail data base
back after--for any of a variety of reasons--a completely fresh
install of The Bat!

Not sure I want to risk it, just for the ability to keep testing TB!
betas.

If the problem persists in v. 3.82, it's sure to surface in the wider
community of users, I think, and at that point maybe the RitLabs team
will take a look at it.

Thanks a million for all the support and help!

It's Radeon.

I did a check using Windows verifier.exe, and all drivers are as they
should be, according to that.

Then I did a fresh download of v. 3.81.05 and installed it over v.
3.80.06.

Same incomplete paint job plus flickering Mail Ticker.

Since v. 3.80.06 runs just fine for me and versions 3.81.03, .04, and
.05 have this problem at launch, and based on this most recent test, I
don't think my drivers are the source of the difficulty.

I notice at the download page that RitLabs is planning a release of v.
3.82. I hope they will try to run down the source of this problem
before a public release, since two beta testers (Stuart Hemming and
me) have reported encountering it, and it's on the BT issue report
entries.
