Yeah, very helpful indeed. Perhaps there is someone else on this list

Hello David!

No, but it is a tough one.

If you want to be overly correct the plural is virii (from Greek via
Latin). In English you can also use viruses, which is actually the
standard according to the SOED.

But beware, although virus in general is countable, used in the
context of computer environments it *can* also be uncountable.

Your message before this one seemed to be an opinion, rather than a

That's right, I understood that there was no solution for me, and I

my problem is more or less imaginary, if I just know how to use all
the features of TB. My only comment was that it would be more helpful

What problem? The pasting of text in the editor? I said at least that

suggest it is only about pasting text (at least that is what I
understand).

IOW's please revise what the problem is.

What I mentioned in my previous mail, that I have to use alt L

Your insights into the auto-format feature and its limitations are

The TB! editor cannot be made to behave in a way that you wish it to.

Neither did I expect a comment, I wasn't asking a question. But then I

the list moderator it doesn't stop.

From the technical point of view everything is said (IMHO) so if
someone is interesting in commenting the way other people are writing
their emails and the tone they are using why don't you send your
comments directly to this people (I should probably have done so with
this mail, too. But I already deleted this thread). Or better: Just
stop it, please!

I hope I haven't started a flamewar with this mail ;-)

Kind regards and a happy new year

P. S.: Until this thread I didn't even recognize a big difference
between BAT's editor and other mail applications (Now I checked and
saw it) But still it isn't a big issue for me.

I am more concerned about other features like the missing of a
on-the-fly-decrypting and not storing of a PGP message (This for
example is a main reason why I cannot recommend BAT to my friends! But
that's another topic).

Hi Peter,

ACM The TB! editor cannot be made to behave in a way that you wish it

ACM your comment.

PS Neither did I expect a comment, I wasn't asking a question. But
PS then I got a reaction implying that I was so dumb that I couldn't
PS see the solution to my problem. Well, that is not the attitude I
PS expect on this list, and *that* is what I said in my previous
PS message. I'm amazed that you now are criticizing MY attitude in
PS that regard.

I'm one of these TB! editor fans.

I see three solutions to your problem (this is not meant
ironically!):

 - type your mails in a word processor you like (word, ...) and
   copy/paste into the TB! editor

 - wait for TB! version 2

 - give another mail client a try (becky, ...)

Many users new to TB! don't like the editor. But the longer they work
with it... ;-)

Followup-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], please.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/topics/nimda.asp

The official name of the worm is W32/Nimda@MM, but it is generally referred
to as the Nimda worm. It attempts to spread via three different means:

Email: Infected machines attempt to spread the infection to other users by
sending copies of the worm via email.

Web servers: Infected machines attempt to pass the infection to web servers
by either locating an already compromised server, or by exploiting a known
security vulnerability in Internet Information Server. Once infected, a web
server will attempt to infect the machines of any users that visit it.

File shares: Infected machines will search for systems that have been
configured to allow anyone to add files to them and, upon finding such a
machine, will insert infected files onto it.

Yes I know. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you never use Lookout or
only use it to run javascripts your Windows Address Book is empty. So
if you're infected by such a virus then the virus cannot spread
itself.

Or do other programs use the wab? I checked my addressbook and it

The simpler method is to press Ctrl-Shift-F, type your corrections
and press Ctrl-Shift-F again when finished to turn the auto-format
back off. This is much more convenient than random Alt-L's.

Not for me; when I then type just one character in an indented passage
or a table or something like that, the whole layout is suddenly
destroyed. With Cntrl L you have at least some control over what
passages you want to reformat.

Now.. I know that by running TB! and having no addresses in my Outlook,

joining this list one week ago, I remember reading that messages such as

Alternately, it could be that people posted their comments before

Re: Auto entry in address book

2001-12-30 Thread Gerard de Vries

Hi Roelof,

I tried this and it works as advertised. However, I wanted to make a
small change. The filter now adds all sender address to the
address book even if they ar already in there. The result is
 double/triple/etc. entires.

I tried activating the advanced tab / all address(es) must not be
listed in the address book (item: sender). But this doesn't seem to
work. It doesn't want to add any email addresses now.
 Any suggestions?

Best regards,
 Gerard

Roelof I live), you wrote:

GdV If I could then delete the complete address book or all the entries

GdV address in a particular folder to it again I would be done.

Roelof Well, that's easy.
Roelof Create a folder 'zakelijk' to put messages in. Select the properties
Roelof that messages expire in three months (Keep messages for 120 days) and
Roelof set it to be purged on exiting TB (On exit: Remove old messages and
Roelof Compress folder)
Roelof Next thing is to create two address book groups: 'klanten' and 'vaste
Roelof klanten'. Add your customers to the group 'klanten' those customers
Roelof you deal regularly, but not necessarily every three months you've got
Roelof to add to 'vaste klanten' too.

Roelof Now comes the filter part.
Roelof Create a filter called 'zakelijke post' that places every incoming

Roelof the folder 'zakelijk'
Roelof (Rule tab

RoelofCheck: Addresses must be in address book
Roelof Items: Sender
RoelofCheck: The address book entry must belong to group
Roelof Select 'klanten' as the right address book group.
Roelof )

Roelof Next create a filter 'herstel zakelijke adressen' in among the
Roelof read-messages filters
Roelof (Rule tab
RoelofSource folder: zakelijk,
RoelofTarget folder: zakelijk,
RoelofFiltering strings: string: @, location: kludges, presence: Yes,

Roelof Action tab
RoelofCheck: Add addresses to address book
Roelof Items: Sender
Roelof Add to group: 'klanten'
Roelof )

Roelof Now all mail from your customers (as soon as you've added them to
Roelof 'klanten') goes to the folder 'zakelijk'

Roelof Now the deleting of old addresses and restoring the current entries:
Roelof Open your address book,
Roelofselect 'klanten' and delete it. All entries in 'klanten' will be
Roelof deleted except for those in other groups (eg 'vaste klanten')
Roelofcreate a new group called 'klanten'
Roelofselect 'vaste klanten' select all entries and add them to 'klanten'
Roelofclose the address book
Roelof Select the folder 'zakelijk'
Roelofright mouse click
RoelofRe-filter messages
Roelof Manual filters only
Roelof Now all senders from the folder 'zakelijk' are added to your 'klanten'
Roelof group.

Roelof This deleting and restoring can be done as often as you wish, even if
Roelof you're doing so every week or only every year all old addresses are
Roelof purged and only your last three months worth of addresses will be kept.

Yes, I found the web site which has the rar unzipping software some
time ago, couple months or more. I use WinZip for unzipping and I
just didn't think I could justify getting the WinRar just to
unzip the_Bat! beta. I can't honestly say I have run into any other
zipped files which required that utility.

 I've used winrar, http://www.rarsoft.com/ which I think I downloaded

I just tried, and was able to extract with PowerDesk. www.ontrack.com

Hi Peter,

I believe the german site was where I looked at the WinRar utility, or
whatever it was named. I use WinZip and it will unzip some 20 or more
types, but .rar is not one of them. Seems to me like it would, but it
doesn't.

I didn't know it was a Beta version (1.53t). It is on the Beta page.

It's like an Official release - very stable!

Re: SpellChecker

If there is one thing about the_Bat! it is the stability. I grew up
on Eudora, from version 1 to version 4. I really liked it and it did
enough of what I needed an e-mail client. Unfortunately, from version
4 (and then v. 5) it started crashing unmercifully. A newly formatted
hard drive and fresh installation of Eudora worked perfectly...for 1
month. Then it would start crashing on opening folders, closing
folders, exiting the program, etc. Very disgusting and that was when
I started looking for something else. I don't think the_Bat! has ever
crashed on me, or if it did, it was likely something I did.

Hi Eddie,

While I liked Eudora real well, the crashing drove me off. I looked
at both Poco and the_Bat! at the same time and came to the conclusion
that the_Bat! was the most versatile and went with it. If there is
something about the e-mail client that I don't like, for the most part
it can be changed to my liking. Do that with Outlook Express. lol

dumb that he couldn't see the solution to his problem until Peter came
along and presented it to him on a platter.

Ok, then I've misunderstood you completely. I apologize for accusing
 you wrongfully.

Hey, no problemo.

An explanation of my reaction may be that I've
sometimes observed in some messages on this list a rather
condescending attitude towards people who don't know all the ins and
outs of TB, and your reaction seemed to me to fit into that pattern,
but it turns out that I was completely wrong on that count.

I think the folks on this list are almost always overwhelmingly polite and
helpful, especially the old-timers and/or moderators.

But just as you misunderstood me, others are often misunderstood. I
blame it on the medium. It's much more difficult to communicate
clearly via e-mail than it is eyeball to eyeball. Especially when you
take into account the international flavor of this list.

I gotta try speaking Greek for a while. This English thing ain't
 working for me anymore.

Perhaps a bit more extensive use of quoting would've made your meaning
 more clear?

That probably would only have increased the odds that someone would
have misunderstood me - at least in my case.

 ;)

You bet. As we say here in America, no blood, no foul.

:)

PS: Thanks again for the tip!

I, too, would be most curious as to how this would work. In addition,

not allow this file to be accessible, as it will quarantine it.

I keep telling everybody with virus problems that they must have
