Email client - Opera/Bat/OE
I am using Opera and it works beautifully as my default browser. I am using both OE6 and TB. Both link to Opera when I click on a url in an email. However, I cannot create an email when at an Opera website by clicking on an email address, Opera wants me to create (another?) email client which I do not want to do. I want the email to open in OE or TB, depending on which email program I am using at the time. I should have worked at it longer. I did find the area to set in OE as default mail handler and it worked. I take it there is no way to set in both mail programs under Opera. Hi, HDS Let me give you an example of how it works: when LK is enabled, HDS typing e1 produces é. If I actually want e1 then I just HDS type e11. IMO in this solution there's a problem with e11, don't you think? Typing e11 gives e1, so you have to type e111 and delete one of 1 (I believe program starts parsing after hitting the space?) But how often do people need e11? :) HDS Of course, you can configure the accent keys to suit your own HDS typing habits. So the above problem practically does not exists. Improving an alerter filter
Hello. I have a filter that sends messages with certain sender strings to Trash. The filter also immediately sends an alerter message via Local Delivery to my Inbox informing me of the From address and the message title of each such message. The filter works well, but I'd like to try to improve it. Here's what I'd like to do: 1. Avoid putting a copy of the alerter message in the Sent folder. 2. Generate a single alerter message containing the From addresses and titles of *all* the messages sent to Trash, rather than a single alerter message for each message sent to Trash. Can either or both of these improvements be made to this filter? regards, Andy [Using The Bat! 1.53t under Windows 2000 Pro SP2 on a made from scratch PIII-500 MHz/384 MB RAM] -- Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Latest Vers: 1.53d FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com

Generate a single alerter message containing the From addresses and AA titles of *all* the messages sent to Trash, rather than a single AA alerter message for each message sent to Trash. This can't be done with a filter, every message is processed separately. However I can think of a workaround. Let your filter dump the info you want to send in a file. (Actions - export to a file - use a template - append to existing file) Now you've got all of you're trashed mentioned in one file. Only thing you've got to do is to send that file in a message to yourself. That can be done with a batch-file that sends the file to you (for syntax see TB help: Automated message creation - /MAIL command), afterwards your batch-file deletes your export file. This batch-file can be run as often as you wish by entering it as a task in the Windows Scheduler. (Remember to set the settings of the batch-file as Close window on exit, because otherwise your screen will be swamped with finished dos-boxes.) AA Can either or both of these improvements be made to this filter? Hi, On Wed, 9 Jan 2002 12:30:10 +0100, Marcin M¹czka [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: HDS Let me give you an example of how it works: when LK is enabled, HDS typing e1 produces é. Typing e11 gives e1, so you have to type e111 and delete one of 1 Well, you don't actually have to delete anything. The program takes care of that for you. The way LatinKey works is this: if you type a letter and then you type a key to which you have assigned an accent, the computer assumes you want the letter with the accent over it. If you *don't* -- that is, if you actually want the letter and then the accent key's normal character, then you just press the accent key a second time. The accented letter will disappear automatically, and will be replaced by the unaccented letter and the accent key's normal character. It's awkward to explain, but it's really simple in practice. LatinKey has a demo available -- a short one, as I recall, but hey, you can still try it out for free. (I believe program starts parsing after hitting the space?) No, the program doesn't wait for the space (you need accents in the middle of words, so waiting for a space wouldn't be practical) But how often do people need e11? :) That's the point. As I said in my earlier email, it seems like a backward way to think about typing, but it works precisely because it takes advantage of the likelihood/unlikelihood of specific key combinations. The only key combination that becomes a regular issue for me is when I want an exclamation mark: typing e! is interpreted the same as typing e1 ... which means that if I want to produce e! I actually end up typing e!!. But I don't use exclamation points that often. And when I'm typing French, I sometimes follow the French practice of putting a space before the ! -- that eliminates the LK problem altogether. In any case, accent keys are user-configurable, so if the ! issue really bothered me, I could just remove the accent from the 1 key. All of these accent programs and options are compromises: Allchars and switching to the US-Int'l keyboard require hotkeys to be pressed for each accent. I'm a touch-typist; for me, having to hold down keys or hit hotkeys for each accent gets tiresome very quickly. The advantage of LK is that each accent requires just one extra keystroke... and just one more keystroke in the rare event that I don't really want the accent. And in the case of Allchars (and similar programs) you actually select the accent *before* the letter it goes over, which is an unnatural order. When you write accents, don't you (usually) write the letter first? On the other hand, unlike Allchars et al, LatinKey doesn't give access to the *whole* character set. LK's designed just for Latin-based languages, so I'm sure it wouldn't suit the needs of a lot of people on TBUDL. I think Fanix Software offers another program to allow access to the whole character set, but I haven't tried it out -- I have no need for it. In any case, I've never seen another accent program like LK, and I really like it, so I thought I would mention it. HDS Of course, you can configure the accent keys to suit your own HDS typing habits. So the above problem practically does not exists. Good configuration solves all! ;) :) Havivah _ Do You Yahoo!? [OT] gmx.net
Off topic post-- Someone mentioned on this list that they use gmx.net as a nice free POP account service so I've been using it for a while now. It really is awesome. They just announced, however, that they are no longer providing multilingual support (they're a German company). As they mention, this really isn't a problem for POP access, but still occasionally I use the web interface to access my mail. I'm curious if anyone has found some other good free POP accounts please let me know. ( I also have a Yahoo account which is nice but it fills up with more spam than the gmx.net one, plus gmx.net allows the transfer of larger files ). I'm not saying I'm going to dump gmx.net, but I might start using a different POP account as well if there are some other good ones out there. Feel free to mail off-list as well. ZIP and email peculiarity
When using WinZip's Zip and email from the Explorer context menu (WinZip | Zip and Email filename), I've noted something odd. When I started off using TB! I was with ISP A and made it the default; I then moved to ISP B and made B the default (this account is the default for mailto: URLs in Account | Properties in both cases). Yet Zip and email is still using A to send the email from. The first thing to do is to establish whether it's a WinZip problem or a TB! problem; I suspect this means monitoring API calls or similar, which I don't have the knowledge to do. Anyone? Re: Improving an alerter filter
Hi, Roelof Raj. AA 2. Generate a single alerter message containing the From addresses and AA titles of *all* the messages sent to Trash, rather than a single AA alerter message for each message sent to Trash. RO Let your filter dump the info you want to send in a file ... send RO that file in a message to yourself ... with a batch-file ... /MAIL RO command) ... This batch-file can be run as often as you wish by RO entering it as a task in the Windows Scheduler. I found what may be a better way. The filter dumps the info into a file. The filter also launches a VBS script that only allows a single instance of itself. The VBS script checks the file size and waits until the size stops changing. Then it uses the /MAIL command to send the file to the Inbox. I'll post the code to TBTech so it can be shared and further improved. It's unfortunate that choosing Append to existing file for a filter doesn't work if the file doesn't already exist. Normally, when an append is authorized, a file is *created* if it doesn't already exist. TB! appears to just stop the append. regards, Andy [Using The Bat! 1.53t under Windows 2000 Pro SP2 on a made from scratch PIII-500 MHz/384 MB RAM] -- Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Latest Vers: 1.53d FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com

Believe me you are not the only one... I have seen many users report the same. It took me 8 months to realize the same. Its just that most users are not used to seeing a scroll bar in a pop window. Hence while its there nobody notices unless guided. The problem is that most pop up windows in s/w applications do NOT have scroll bars. And if they do then they have a window maximising option. This is another area where TB needs to improve. Marking a cc to the wish list. Having a maximising option in that window should not prove very difficult I guess.. -- Warm regards, Raj mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Performance Appraisal Terms And Their Real Meanings Loyal - Can't get a job anywhere else Replied on 10 Jan 2002 using TB Ver 1.54 Beta/25 on Windows NT -- Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Latest Vers: 1.53d FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com
