I store attachments in message body. I used to store them seperately
and changed because of the way they are stored.

You receive a message with an attachment pic.jpg. You can find that
easily in the attachments directory, and that was the reason why I
stored them seperately. Now another message comes in with the same
attachment name. TB stores it as pic1.jpg. the next one will be called
pic2.jpg, so at the end there is great confusion and you don't know
any more which attachment belongs to which message. It didn't make
sense any more for me, the searchability in the attachment folder was
lost.

Most attachments I don't want to save externally and search later
anyway. So now I manually save those I do want to change, and give
them meaningful names and save them into meaningful directories.

Might need to play around to experiment with what you can do... or
maybe setup a dummy filter with all the options to find out what each

Perhaps you can go into Address Book in the old version, and
File-Export as an LDIF or other file, then go into the new version
3.64 and File-Import the file.

Good luck.

Thank you for replying Stuart. At least now I know my messages are
making it to the list.

As you can see from my sig, I am back to my old version of TB for
reasons stated in my original post. In this, the old version, the
address books are kept in the Windows folder titled THE BAT! They are
named JACK.abd and JUNE.abd, not JACK.adb and JUNE.adb as in my
previous post. I mistakenly transposed the last two letters. Anyway,
in this old version (2.11), there are no files named 'thebat.abd' as in
your beta version.

RIT Labs states:
Updating to the latest version of the programme is easy: there is no need in
uninstalling your existing copy of The Bat! - just install the new version over.
All the settings, messages and address books will be preserved.

So, that's what I did. No old address books.

Thanks to you I now know I am reaching the list so I'll just keep
checking to see if anyone has an answer to this.

I agree with this opinion, Ian.

Perhaps supplying an ODBC driver to allow connection to the address book (still
retaining it's proprietary format) would be a good solution, since this deals
both with the issue of accessibility and the security issue.

Well, that seems redundant because when I install the new 3.64
version as per RIT lab's instructions, I find that both address books
exist (on disk) just as they did in the old version. So, exporting from
the old and importing into the new wouldn't seem to accomplish
anything.

So... they're already there, but the new version seems to ignore them
or can't find them.

I wonder if this is the problem. Because you have Address books named
specifically for each of you instead of the generic address book
thebat.abd, when you upgrade it does not move your personalized
address books to the Mail folder. It seems they are in a different
location than the old version which seems to have been using TheBat
directory to store the .abd files.
