Again gmail (if it's considered OT, please reply off-list)

2008-03-26 Thread Luc
 Good morning list,

Some days ago i asked why i can't receive the messages i post here and
some kind soul replied it's a gmail thing. So i looked around on gmail
and indeed: messages sent to mailing lists don't show in the inbox.
Gmail automatically skips the inbox and archives the message. The
message will appear in the inbox if someone responds to it or if there
is an error delivering the message.

If i like to view the message, you need to go to Mail or All Mail.

Does anybody know how i can solve that or is the only solution
(besides using another account) setting up a filter in gmail?

Undocked Toolbars!

2008-03-26 Thread Barry
Yikes!

I don't know how I've managed it but all my toolbars are undocked.

i can drag and dock them to both sides and the bottom, but there's no way
that I can get them to stick (or even attempt to stick) to the top of the
window under the menu.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Patrick

This is what I would try:

1. In The Bat! Account Properties for your default mail account, pick the
'General' Tab and make sure that This account is the default for mailto:;
URLS is ticked.

2. Start IE7 go to Tools, Internet Options, Programs. If The Bat! is
shown as the E-mail service change it to something else, restart IE7 and
change it back to The Bat!, or if it isn't TheBat! make sure it is!

This has always worked for me, but I can't vouch for Vista...

I'm not dissing anybody. And I have no clue who is a moderator on
here. I have moderated LISTSERV(R) lists, from 15-20 at a time, for 19
years, and am well familiar with the problems, prerogatives, etc, of
being one. I'm nearing retirement and have cut down to nine of them
now.

But if expressing an opinion on top postings not being a sin in
certain situations is considered dissing, I'm missing that clue,
too.

And, I don't recall getting a welcome message that explicitly said
top posting is a mortal sin and will send you straight to some very
hot place. Of course there could be senility setting in, or it could
be that it went into my spam folder along with 95 percent of the stuff
that arrives in the box. The wonderful AntispamSniper is fantastic,
about 99.8 percent perfect at the moment for me, but like me, and
presumably thee, it isn't yet perfectnor do I expect it to be.

As just posted, I never saw any specific rules, or else napped through
them. That's how it is with us old geezers that have been in the
computing business for 48 years (yeah, vacuum tubes, punched paper
tape, etc, etc).

As noted also, I've run lists for just under two decades in multiple
environments, and am fanatic on trimming quotes. If I screwed up on
that, my apologies. I'd have to check my outbox to be sure.

I also noted that I only top post when it makes sense to me (i.e. can
see whole content in one screen). But you can be sure I won't do it
again, and that I'll recover from the whiplashes.

And you can be sure I'm a law and order type of guy. If I know the
rules I'm happy to follow them, whether I like them or notwhich
irritates me no end every time I take my Corvette out on the freeway.

But to get back to a questionwhat the heck does the top posting
have to do with PGP anyway?

This posting violated the list rules regarding top posting.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your
message and following it with all quoted text below, is not
encouraged and we actually request that you not do so on this list
because

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the
   top of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to
which you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to,
and then below the quotation, type your response. If you're
responding to more than one part of the original, then quote each
part separately and follow each part with your response.

Now, I know that you may not personally prefer this format and that
you may disagree with some of the reasoning here. We very much
respect this. However, this is the format that most of the active
members here prefer and all members are expected, and are being
asked to use the format that will make most of the active membership
here comfortable reading. You'll likely get a more responsive group
when you post using a style that is comfortable for them to read and
understand.

To find out why these MOD messages are posted to the list instead of

Thank you.

However Firefox lies in the task bar with the URL open.

Of course I have to kill the error message.

This was reported in version 3.xx, and somehow nothing seems to have
been done.

Or is it a Firefox issue?

Some days ago i asked why i can't receive the messages i post here and

and indeed: messages sent to mailing lists don't show in the inbox.

You can cc yourself, but you might be better off getting a different account
and subscribing to the lists through the new account. You can get a free
account from fastmail.fm and then you can test IMAP with us when the next beta
round starts. It is supposed to be concentrating on IMAP for us very, very, very
patient IMAP users. ;)

Undocked Toolbars! mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I also noted that I only top post when it makes sense to me (i.e.
can see whole content in one screen). But you can be sure I won't do
it again, and that I'll recover from the whiplashes.

I've got a 1280x1024 sitting next to a 1024x768, so what I can see on
one screen greatly differs.

However, the general logic seems sound. The devil is always in the
details.
