altering how the Bat! stores attachments?

2001-07-19 Thread Charlie Laidlaw

i looked in my attachments directory, and i see that if i've sent out
the same photo in several different posts, theBat! is storing another
copy each time, adding 1/2/3...

Is it possible to make it not store _any_ copies in the attachments
directory, but just use the photo in its original location (my photos
folder)?

Or is it possible to just stop this duplication, so if the same photo
is sent out in several posts, only one copy is stored?

help with 'sent' filter to multiple recipients

2001-07-01 Thread Charlie Laidlaw

Hello,

i have a few 'sent messages' filters set up. However it is difficult
to find my sent message when i send it out to several recipients.
Someone gets it put in their own sent folder, as of course the Bat is
finding their address in the recipient string.

Is it possible to override that, and just have it go to the main
'sent' folder, when there are multiple recipients?

a filter failing to work. what to do?

Hello,

i have just made up three filters, to move into the same folder
upon discovery of a certain sender. In the inbox i highlighted the

sender and so forth.

Did 're-filter folder'. The first two worked fine, but the last
didn't! i have no idea why. what i have in the detect-by-sender
box is apparently identical to who the sender is. So why doesn't
it work?

on reply, quoted text is too wide. a fix?

2001-05-04 Thread Charlie Laidlaw

Hello,

i have a problem: when i reply, the quoted text is too wide for the
screen, and i have to move the horizontal scrollbar to see it all.

Moving the curser across the screen, it turns out it is 76 spaces
wide. This seems odd. I had thought the text would wrap at 67
(which is what 'Wrap Text At' is set to) I must be misunderstanding
its function. Ahh ... i see, i just counted this post here, it is
wrapping, what _i_ write at 67. ok. Well then that control won't fix
my problem.

BTW, is there a better setting for that to be at? Some setting so
that Yahoo Hotmail people don't get the text all chopped up? I
used to use Yahoo, and i'd often get mailed that had a long line,
then a short line, repeated. I think thats because they have
unusually narrow text display? I don't know, maybe i'm talking
crap here, and and someone can enlighten me as ...

i have checked: autowrap, smarttabs, autoindent, backspace
unindents, findtextat cursor

also... just get this freeware program 'web2pop' from
http://jmasoft.free.fr . Then make a new account, leave it all default
except for any proxy settings, and:

transport: mail server: web2pop
" user: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or whatever)
" password: your web account password

seems to be working great, as i write this now. it is slower though,
something to do with it using http ? whatever.

annoying multi-line cookie protocol

2001-01-07 Thread Charlie Laidlaw

Hello batfans,

to me, it seems like a PITA that mult-line cookies need this '/n' to
signify a carriage return. If i download or create a big text file of
quotes, i've got to go through and insert them manually (which could
be a huge job). I've just discovered that the old 'byelines'
cookie-randomizer program has a similar protocol, with '#'

Why must it be that way? Will it be changed to simply pressing
'enter' for for Version 2.0 ?

checking it out now...

CL don't know why they all disappeared in the first place, but i'm
CL glad they did! Where are they saved in the windows directory tree?

MDP IIRC they are kept in the account.flx file in the /Mail folder.

no; i've just checked (by renaming files, restarting to see what
happens) and it turns out to be account.cfg (its not responsible for
the save message template, which doesn't disappear with the rest when
i hide account.cfg)

CL ooh, hold on, replying to normal messages is fine, but its not
CL working when i try to reply to a friends html message, i only get
CL the results of my macros "on this date, so-and-so said", but then
CL it craps out at %QUOTES. i mean, no quoted body appears. this is
CL weird eh?

MDP Check out the message. HTML messages usually come as multipart - a
MDP text version of the message with the HTML version as an attachment.

no, i think his messages do have both. two tabs at bottom of main
screen: '1' which has a doublespaced black message on white
background, and an icon in vertical bar window to the left
'message.html'. Other tab labeled 'message.html', shows only the
single-spaced body of message, black font on grey background.

i've tried to reply from each tab, and regardless, the
reply-composition window shows nothing in the top original-text
screen, and only my macros (except for %quotes) in the bottom one.

MDP If it's not that, then check the templates at the three levels I
MDP mentioned before.

MDP This may be caused by changes to one of:
MDP 1) the default templates (Account -- Properties -- Templates)

they were all blank, but i've filled them in with details copied from
another account i just created.

i imported the html message to this new account, and it fails to
successfully reply to it also. bummer!

maybe i'll have to re-install The Bat! ? but i suspect that if i do
that, when i copy over all my old messages, I'll just copy along too
this mysterious file corruption (if that is the problem) too, and the
error will happen again.

MDP 2) the folder templates for the folder that has the focus at the time
MDPyou attempt the reply

? where to look for this? i don't see anything to do with templates in
folder -- properties. If you mean account -- properties -- templates
-- edit quick templates, it is blank.

MDP 3) the address book entry for the individual you are replying to.

it was blank, and box unticked. I copied in the default reply
template, ticked box, tried replying, and still nothing but most of
the template.

well thanks for your help so far. if you have any more advice (how to
fix this problem, or how to isolate mail from system config files in
case of a re-install), i'll glady give it a go.

on reply, nothing gets quoted for me. why?

2000-11-22 Thread Charlie Laidlaw

hello,

i'm not sure if its a bug or a feature i've enabled , but suddenly
when i try to 'reply' to a letter, nothing appears quoted for me. The
'view - original text' window is there, and i can successfully 'paste
as quotation', but i'd like it to automatically happen, as it used to.

thanks,
charlie

MDP Hi Charlie,

Hi Marck, thanks for answering. this 'bug' has been great, it has forced
me to learn what templates are about. i never really knew
before; everything worked well enough so i just ignored them as
something i didn't need to learn about. but its proven to all be very
simple indeed(so far), and i'm glad i know how to play with them now.

don't know why they all disappeared in the first place, but i'm glad
they did! Where are they saved in the windows directory tree?

ooh, hold on, replying to normal messages is fine, but its not working
when i try to reply to a friends html message, i only get the results
of my macros "on this date, so-and-so said", but then it craps out at
%QUOTES. i mean, no quoted body appears. this is weird eh?

MDP It is likely that you have removed or damaged your reply template. If
MDP the generated message is completely blank then you have emptied the
MDP template. If there is content but no quoted text then perhaps you have
MDP modified it and removed the %QUOTES macro which pulls in the original
MDP text as a quotation.

MDP This may be caused by changes to one of:
MDP 1) the default templates (Account -- Properties -- Templates)
MDP 2) the folder templates for the folder that has the focus at the time
MDPyou attempt the reply
MDP 3) the address book entry for the individual you are replying to.

keyboard shortcuts / undeletable letter

2000-09-11 Thread Charlie Laidlaw

Hello bat!heads,

is there a keyboard shortcut to enlarge the viewing of an attachment?
i know that if you drag up the picture with your mouse, it gets
bigger, but it would be handy to have a key to do the same.

Best regards,
