SpamKiller and Command Line - The Answer

2002-07-16 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi ,

First of all, thanks for all the help and suggestions. The people at
McAfee more or less said this wasn't possible, but I have finally
solved it.

I originally tried to get the command line working from the
Accounts/properties/events dialog. Howevger, I have discovered that if
in the main settings/general dialog if I choose other for the email
program and insert c:\progra~1\thebat~1\thebat.exe /checkemailserver
in there, Spamkiller dials up, nukes the crap and then instructs The
Bat! to pick up authorised mail. A perfect solution.

Again, many thanks for all your help.

Command String query

2002-07-15 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi ,

I am trying to get The Bat! to pick up messages after running an
anti-spam filter program. The help file gives me the advice below:

/CHECKaccount mask1[;account mask2[;account mask3[...]]]

As commasndf lines etc are a dafrk and arcane black art to me are the
account details the email address ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) the name I have given
the account within The Bat (Private or Business etc) or the server
details (mail.isp.com)

Thanks for any help.

Re[2]: Command String query

2002-07-15 Thread Kevin Tea

Hello Marck,

I'll try and explain my system to make things clearer.

My ISP hosts three domains for me and all go through a master email
portal called [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have called the master account on The Bat! EmailServer and all posts
go to that and are then filtered into the three main domains and then
sub-filtered into sub-folders. All this works great.

SpamKiller recognises The Bat! as my default email client and provides
two options. One is run email program and the second is run this
program and it is here that I am trying to put the command string.

The command string I have after all the help is:

C:\Program Files\The Bat!\thebat.exe / CHECKEmailServer

If The Bat! is not loaded then this will kick start it, but it will
not run a retrieve pass and an earlier attempt with CHECKEmailServer
also failed to run.

HTH

Working With SpamKiller

2002-07-12 Thread Kevin Tea

Hello

The amount of spam coming through these days is far too much so I have
bought McAfee's Spamkiller to help with the task.

The process is a two step one with SK running first to nuke the crap
and then running The Bat! to pick up the OK mail.

There is a facility whereby if The Bat! is not loaded, then SK will
launch it but it will only pick up mail if the options are set to pick
up mail on launch. This means that I have to close The Bat! if I want
to use this feature.

Is there some instruction that I can use so that once SK has finished
nuking garbage it will tell The Bat!

Any help much appreciated.

Kevin

Re: Acting on message text strings

2000-11-25 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi Charlie

Just thinking out load, why don't you get the form handling cgi to
post the form data direct to the member of staff? It seems more
 logical to me Kevin.

It does that. When the incoming mail arrives the filter actions
generates a forward email to the client. I then manually pick out the
enquirer's email address from the form and email a thank you response.
What I am hoping to do is do this latter bit automatically so I can
still remain being seen as a vital cog in the wheel by my client and
not be surgically attached to the computer g.

2000-11-22 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi

I cannot PGP because when I try to save or send a message with the
instruction to encrypt the message I get this error message:

Access violation 00509196
Read of address FFF

I am using PGP 6.5i and am now using The Bat 1.48 Beta 8 on Windows 98
V2

TIA

Kevin

Hi Marck

Sorry about that. The same thing happened in 1.46d. I only installed
Beta 8 yesterday and haven't got around to subscribing to the list. On

Acting on message text strings

2000-11-21 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi

On behalf of a client I receive enquiry forms from an internet web site
and forward them to one member of staff. This is now largely automated
thanks to The Bat! As each incoming form has an applied action to
automatically forward the form to the member of staff, but it still
leaves me to manually sort through the form to find the sender's email
address and fire off an acknowledgement that the form has been
received.

For whatever reason, the supplied email address is not highlighted blue
as an active hyperlink. Is there anyway that I can program The Bat! To
pick up this email string and send a template reply automatically?

Archiving Question

2000-11-15 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi

I've looked through the FAQ and Help file, so ...

Has anyone worked out a way that you can automatically remove emails
from a folder after so many days (that part's easy) and then transfer
and store them in a specified directory?

TIA

Kevin

Re: Archiving Question

2000-11-15 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi

Looking at the actions facilities within the filter, would it be
possible to choose to extract the incoming emails to a continuously
appended text file at a specified location and then choose to delete
them from the main list after 30 days or whatever?

Re: Archiving Question

2000-11-15 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi Januk

If you don't mind a little duplication of data, your method works well.

I ran some tests last night and it does work (much to my surprise, not
because of The Bat! But because I worked it out g). This way I can keep
the mailboxes lean and fast and save the important material on my Iomega
Zip drive.

The more I delve into The Bat! The more I'm impressed by the superior
functionality it has. It's a bit daunting at first, but well worth the
effort to persevere.

Mailing list snag

2000-10-30 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi

I am trying to send a group email to a client which has 40 individuals
I need to send some updated material to.

If I choose the group option and the address is GON list) it won't
send and at the end of the run the original email editor pops up. The
same happens if I send a multiple address mail containing all the
members.

I seem to recall this worked in 1.46D - is this a bug or an anti-spam
device?

Re: Mailing list snag

2000-10-30 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi

As a follow up to this I thought I'd share the procedure I got the
mailing list facility working again bearing in mind the list, as it
was, worked with 1.46d.

I found an old copy of The Bat! At Tucows, downloaded and installed
that over 1.47 using the same group list - no joy. I re-wrote the list
message in the hope that something there was screwing up and tried to
re-send - no joy.

I reinstalled 1.47 - well, it seemed only appropriate on October 31 to
give the Halloween edition a second chance - again, no luck. I deleted
the group and instead of reloading from the existing master address
book, I re-imported the names and addresses from Calypso after
exporting them as a standard text file.

For some reason this worked and everything is fine.

I humbly apologise for suspecting there was a bug in The Bat! And shall
go off to thrash myself with stiff, fresh celery and cream cheese as a
penance g.

Hi Marck

The link works fine here. Perhaps PlusNet's routers are having

Good call! Tried another dial up network and got in fine.

Difference 1.46 and 1.47

What a difference a day makes!

Before I download 1.47 is there any major difference over 1.46d or is

Fonts and automatic pick up and send

2000-10-23 Thread Kevin Tea

Hi

I am a long time Calypso user evaluating The Bat! And have two
immediate questions.

1: When I have the configuration for the program to pick up mail every
X minutes, it doesn't send at the same time and I cannot see anything
in the help file or menus to tell it to do that.

2: Is there a font source to expand the font list that comes with The
Bat! I'm not to keen on any of those supplied.

TIA

Kevin
