Wishlist for TB to work better with Antspam Sniper plugin
Hello Tbudl, While fine tuning my Antispam Sniper plugin, I sent an e-mail to ask about whether the plugin could work the same way it does with most other e-mail clients. i.e. moving Not Junk back to where it was going before it was intercepted by the filter, as soon as it is so marked. Now I know Ritlabs are not obliged to make their program accommodate a plugin, but does anyone in the list this could actually make it to future versions of TB? My dialog with Antispam Sniper follows: ASS...The plug-in actually cannot move the messages in TheBat folders, ASSbecause TheBat doesn't provide access to the folders and messages to ASSthe plug-ins. The described feature is already implemented in ASSAntispamSniper for Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail. But it is ASSnot possible to make it work in TheBat, because it moves the messages ASSby itself. If this is something for future releases of The Bat, I am posting this message to TB User's Discussion List. If I get any useful responses from TBUDL, I will send them on. Best Regards, -- Michael J. Re[3]: How to streamline and automate TB?
Hello Dan, keep better track of your accounts and what they are for DL I only have 3 active accounts, and to me the above is the secret. Unfortunately I have so many projects to keep track of. I appreciate your input and simple would be the best way. I will rationalize the accounts. Dwight's suggestion of using IMAP for all the POP accounts with Fastmail.fm appeals to me. Does that mean I would delete the messages from my mail server and store them on Fastmail and look at them from TB online? What are the pros and cons of IMAP vs POP? I tried it with TB 4.0.16 and it just hung waiting to connect. Are the IMAP issues resolved with the current beta version of TB? How to streamline and automate TB?
Hello Tbudl, As you can see I have now 14, soon 15 email POP addresses. They are really there so the user can send me an e-mail from various web sites, so they see a different identity, but as you can probably guess they all finish up for me to deal with. The problem is now I have so many (13,000+ after pruning) I can never remember which mail box I am using for what types of messages, so each time I want to find anything I have to use Message Finder (F7) and search all folders. Of course Message Finder does not show you which folder it found the particular message in once I scroll through 100s of them looking for the one I want. Now I am spending more time trying to find things I know are there, than any other computer activity. Maybe there is some way to display the folder it is in when searching but I could not see it under view or anywhere else. Can this knowledgeable group please suggest concrete steps to take to resolve this unholy mess? I asked a while ago for a tutorial and someone suggested the help pages, but what I want is a systematic way to as close as possible, automate TB message handling. I want all this e-mail to go into it's various folders. e.g. Support Ticket Request system. I don't want to use one of these free php trouble ticket systems, because I want everything under TB. The main reason I went to TB in the first place was because of its ability to handle multiple POPs, and powerful costomizability and features, and it is so good at its job. Ultimately my goal is to have TB handle most incoming support e-mails with canned responses automatically, but it seems quite a task to set up apart from just establishing some filters. Has anyone ever considered writing a book or booklet showing a business person how to maximize their benefit by using all these fancy tools TB has to offer? They are so powerful but I am afraid I feel I have only scratched the surface on getting the most out of TB. This site http://www.freeemailtutorials.com/theBat/ says they are writing one but its not yet ready. Of course I got some help from: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/howdoi.html but I am no programmer, nor do I have the time. I really like TB and I really want to find out how to run an on-line business, but it's pretty easy to get overwhelmed by TB's features unless you are e-mail guru (which I am not). I tried to understand the tutorial on RegEx, and I am trying to understand this tutorial from Silverstones.com. It would behoove me to solicit commercial assistance from this group, but I really want to work towards setting up a mailing campaign (not SPAMming), which will allow my fledgling company to grow. Upon googling for TB forums I come back to these same groups. Can someone please point me to other TB discussion groups etc. Cheers! -- Michael J. Sharp B. Bus. AS Guten Morgen, Are you using IMAP? If so, you should be aware that IMAP doesn't work in v4. DAC I don't think it did in version 1 [...] AS Yes, you're right of course. DAC but I it is aburd to say it doesn't work in 4. AS It's rather absurd that it took three major versions to _not_ get it AS working, wouldn't you agree? Hello AS, Let me bite on this one! IMAP is a very sore issue with me. I really needed (and still do), but RITLabs are in a constant state of denial on IMAP support. According to RITLabs IMAP does work. See a paste of their support response to me: Time: 03/04/2008 17:43:33 From: [4000] (apr) XX (helpdesk staff) Well, there is a full support of the IMAP4-protocol in The Bat! and knowing the settings for you server you can configure The Bat! to work with it. So, basically, create a brand new account and make it an IMAP one, then enter the settings and there you go. Well, sorry there you go It still did not work me. Here was their final response and then they closed the ticket: Time: 03/05/2008 17:05:59 From: [4000] (apr) XXX (helpdesk staff) At present (some issues have to be solved) The Bat! does not work with Gmail via IMAP4-protocol, but successfully does with POP3. We can't say IMAP is not working in The Bat! at all, there are some problems, but generally it works. Now I really hope someone in the list can confirm or otherwise that RITLAbs is working on full IMAP support for v4.1, because I have a lot of trouble understanding but generally it works, when it clearly does NOT! It's like being a little bit pregnant, either you are or you aren't. I will go so far as to say it will be difficult for TB to retain the crown as a credible alternative in the corporate arena without IMAP support. Sorry if this is this sounds a bit tongue-in-cheek, but as I wrote it, it ocurred to me it's a bit like Dante's Divine Comedy: comical in its denial, yet a tragedy for those that need this feature. Frankly none of RITLAbs answers satisfies me, so maybe we can shame someone there into giving us hope this matter will be resolved soon. Cheers! -- Michael J. AS Guten Morgen, Avram spoke of going to v4. It would probably not be wise to do this while using IMAP. DAC don't see why not. works fine for me. AS Congratulations. Dear DAC, I am so glad to hear you have IMAP working. I am presently using it with another e-mail client just for that support. Obviouslt it makes more sense to have it all working under TB. Re[2]: Cannot download a 3.5K email
L Good afternoon Michael, L L It was foretold that on 28/03/2008 @ 11:24:27 GMT-0400 (which was L 12:24:27 where I live) Michael J. Sharp would write: L snipped a bit Hello Luc, snipped L It was always an infected mail (spam, virus)... once i deleted it on L the server, everything worked fine again. I suppose the mail you want L is a secure mail but maybe it's infected somehow... It's not a secure file. L You might try delete it on the server and ask the sender to send a L new one... It finally downloaded. My scanner is Sunbelt VIPRE (Beta) and it said it was clean. L Of course i might be completely off track here but in that case L someone much wiser will correct me :-) L To the contrary, it is what I had to do with a pesky email a few days ago, so it is all good advice. OT: can you please tell me how to get that Oscar Wilde (or any other quotation) at the end of my sig? PS: I will try out a machine with Opera and see if it as worthy of a mention in my sig :-D. -- Michael J. Sharp [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using the world's best e-mail client: The Bat! Latest Betas. Where ot find 4.0.18.7
Hello List, Can some kind soul tell me where I can always find the latest Beta? I seem to only find it when someone in the list refers to it. Where do you advise the next beta is available for download. Wasn't 6 supposed to be the last in this round of testing? Thank you -- Michael J.
