Hello Monsell,

is there anyway that i can create msgs using the same account that
 the email arrived to originally?

Not exactly what you're asking for, but it may be of some help.

I also have many different accounts and use address macros so that
regardless of what account I happen to be in, when I send or respond
to someone it automatically opens the editor with the correct account
selected.

Won't help you with replying to one-off type people, but with anyone
that you have ongoing communication with it might.

Is there some way to access the additional addresses you may have for

Hello Laura,

Ever since I installed the latest version of The Bat, I have quite a
strange problem with it: all sub-folders of the inbox of one of my
 accounts keep disappearing.

I just had a similar experience in that in starting Voyager I ended
up with four folders corrupted, 2 inboxes and 2 subfolders in
different accounts.

I ran folder maintenance and it said it recovered the folders, but
they had none of my messages in them. Plus, whatever messages were
received into them during the session disappeared upon the next
restart as the same folders ended up corrupted again.

I had to delete the subfolders from within Voyager and then remake
them, and since you can't delete an Inbox I had to physically delete
those folders from my USB drive and have Voyager remake those on start
up. That finally fixed the problem but I did lose all my previous
messages that were in those folders.

Hello Joyce,

Once I get back home, I'd want to sinc the laptop email with the

Is this doable? How have some of you handled that situation?

I see you apparently have the professional version of TB! in which
case you can download and use Voyager with your current license. I'd
load that up on a USB drive of your preference and use that as your
home copy and just take it on the road with you.

That's what I do and take it between home and the office everyday as
well as with me on any trips. Works great and no need to sync files.

Or do you use only the Voyager version and always download mail to

Exactly. Just in case you're thinking otherwise, Voyager looks and

functionality of the program by using Voyager, just gaining some
independence.

Hello Mau,

But you can change the condition section of your filter to see if
the address is in an specific AB/Group and add addresses to that
 AB/Group.

Yeah, I am using that for some filters already. It is a decent work

It also means that you've got to change the address of contacts

Hello Robin,

I seem to have this working for receiving emails, however it does not
send automatically (i.e. a combined send and receive). It now checks
MS Exchange for incoming emails at a defined interval, but I have to
 manually send emails.

Have I missed something, or is that how it works?

There is an issue with using MAPI currently where if you try to send a
message while TB! is checking mail the message will not go and sit
endlessly in your outbox.

In conjunction, since a combined send and receive does just that it
will never send your message. It's a bug that's been reported and if I
knew how to look it up I'd post it here but quite frankly I don't.

But you can at least take solace in knowing it's not just something
you're experiencing, but that doesn't make it any easier to realize a
message you thought was sent is still sitting in your outbox minutes,
hours, or even days later.

File folders, USB drives, and other such things.

2005-05-24 Thread Nick Danger
I've run across a bit of an oddball thing in running a home and work
installation of TB! My work program stores all pertinent info and
files in the main /the bat folder, while my home install stores the
same files in the /mail folder.

Anyone have any ideas what would cause that or what value I need to
tweak to change it?

Here's some background of what I'm trying to accomplish:

I want to run two separate instances of TB! (home and work) but keep
the message files in one location - on a USB drive stick. I think it
would work if I can get both installs to look on their local /the bat
folder for the required files. Maybe.

If anyone has already accomplished this and has any tips I'd love to
hear them! It kind of works now but every time I start up the home
application it creates all the files in the USB /mail folder that my
work install keeps in the main /the bat folder. If I could get it to
stop that I think I'd be in like Flint.

Multiple accounts - common filters

2005-02-23 Thread Nick Danger
Is this possible to do:

Have several accounts that all send messages to one account where the
messages are then sorted via the filters of the final destination

Perhaps clearer:
I would like to have one main account, but be able to use various
e-mail address and any mail coming in to those various addresses end up
in the main account and filtered appropriately without having to set
up folders in all those alternate accounts.

MAPI outbox quirk

When using MAPI (Exchange Server) protocol I don't seem to be able to

fine and if I initiate a Send Queued Mail command then it will empty the

Can anyone confirm whether this just a personal problem I'm

Hello Plan9,

Without some way to easily use and share all of the information stored
in the Address Book it becomes a black hole database, everything
goes in and nothing (well, very little) comes out.

I use TB!'s macros in conjunction with PowerPro to get a useful
(enough for me anyway) faux PIM. I can open the address book, pick a
name, hit a hotkey and a new message opens up with all the pertinent
(at least what I consider pertinent) address book information about
that person in it.

Works fairly nicely.

A question of control

differently and removes it.

The amazing, mystical, and downright magical disappearing data trick

2003-11-20 Thread Nick Danger
All right, this has been happening to me for years and I have just got
to see if it's just me or anyone else has seen this phenomenon:

Data entered into the memo field of the account properties just

that I have no idea just when it happens. I don't refer to that memo
box often, but every now and then I'll go there to retrieve some data

So, has anyone else ever witnessed this rare, and possibly spectacular

Delete filter bug?

2002-11-01 Thread Nick Danger
Can't believe I hadn't noticed this before but this seems wrong to me:

I have a folder set up with a read filter to transfer a message
to another folder when read.

If there's a single message in there and I delete it, it's gone and
doesn't get moved.

If there's multiple messages, then even though you delete a message it
still ends up in the filter to folder. If there's three messages (as
an example) and as I read them I delete them, the first two still end
up in the filtered to folder, the last message will actually be
deleted.

Does that seem like a normal way it should work to anyone?

Why don't you just set a sound alert for your different mail accounts?

Nick added: I think I've mentioned this before, but another solution
and one that I swear by is using good ol' PowerPro. I have different
flags programmed in PowerPro that are called from various folders in
TB!. I use different colored flags for each folder and make the flags
small, I use 5 pixel squares. When mail drops in those folders the
flag appears in the upper left side of the screen, of course you can
put them anywhere. I program the flags so that with a right click they
reset and take me to the virtual desktop where I keep TB! opened. A
left click and they just disappear - in other words, don't bother me
now I'll check it out later. But if still more mail comes in the
appropriate flag will pop back on.

Very obscure, yet informative.

Hello Chris,

PP Bring the entry 'Memo' to the right
PP combo box and adjusts it's position there and you'll have an overview
PP in your message list about what message has a memo assigned.

Works a charm, thanks a bunch!

One tip on this part:
I set the column width at 6, then begin every memo with an exclamation
point !
Then if a note has a memo attached you'll see a very discrete little !
showing up next to it. It's a nice way to implement the memo field
without losing much real estate at all.

Parking Oddity

The way parking works with read filters seems odd to me:

I read a message in one folder that has a read filter set up to

I move onto onto another message and the parked message disappears.

If I click onto another folder and back it shows up.

There is also a parked copy in the filtered to folder.

Reading, Filtering, Practices

I was wondering what different methods people use for reading and
filtering their mail, in particular for mail lists such as the ones
for TB! If you could just give a quick thumbnail sketch it might
trigger off some ideas of ways I, and possibly others, could change
some emailing habits. I'm always on the lookout for new and improved
methods!

My current method is this:

Mail list stuff comes in and get filtered directly to a main folder.
All 4 TB! lists get sent here.
Upon being read each is filtered to it's own subfolder for
storage/archiving.

I only use threading in the archive folders, the main folder is
sorted by created dates.

I look forward to hearing other options.

Hello Marcus,

The problem comes when you want to type a shorter subject. For
example, if I send a message with subject Test number 2 and later I
want to send one with subject Test, it is quite likely the it will
go out with Test number 2 also. It's happened to me several times.

I agree that it can be annoying but you know you can hit the delete
button, don't you? Maybe not a solution but at least a workaround.

One spot where that won't even work is with letter case. Say I shoot
off a quick note to my home address and put reminder as the subject.
Later I'm sending a note to my boss and want to type Reminder. Auto
correct changes it to reminder and it a PITA to override.

BUG - Reading Confirmation

2002-04-19 Thread Nick Danger

I have Reading Confirmation set to Put in Outbox / Prompt before
action for my business account as I like to be in control of the
thing. I also read mail using the preview mode/view.

Here's what happens:

If I'm reading a message in my business account and then click down
into my personal account to read something, that's when the prompt for
the reading confirmation pops up, as it doesn't pop up until you
remove focus from the message.

However, this way the confirmation message actually gets placed into
my personal account's outbox along with it picking up all of that
account's settings. Not good.

As much as I love the way TB! lets you change accounts on the fly I'm
finding more and more instances where it doesn't do it thoroughly
enough and mixes commands between them.

I lose the focus of the msg I was reading and the focus jumps to the top

Has anybody had the same experience?

Yes, whenever I'm viewing a message in preview mode and one comes in

The Bat! and IBM keyboards

2002-04-08 Thread Nick Danger

Another question from my sister

She just got a new IBM computer that has one of those keyboards with
all the quick access buttons. One was setup for email. With it The
Bat! kept popping open for her every minute or so (I'm guessing how
ever often she had it set to poll for mail). She said she got it to
stop by setting up MSN as her default mail program, but she would like
the button to work with TB! if possible. Anyone come across anything
like this before, or have any ideas what to look at as a solution?

Thanks,

The Bat! Contact Manager

2002-03-20 Thread Nick Danger

I don't know if this has been brought up before but I've found a
fairly nice way to use TB! as a contact manager, or at the very least
a nice address/phone book.

Since most the info you keep on people can be stored in TB!'s address
book, which is pretty extensive, the problem for me was it was a pain
in the butt working down through properties menus to get to the
relevant info.

It finally dawned on me to make a QT listing all the info I need at a
moment's notice on anyone. Now, with TB!'s address book hooked to a
global hotkey I can call it up from anywhere. Quick search to a name
in a second, do a quick cntrl-enter to bring up a blank message
addressed to them, type the QT name and viola! all the contact info
appears nicely formatted. All in less time that it used to take me to
open a contact manager and use it.

May be obvious to many, but to those like me who are still finding
ways to use TB! its a nice poor man's contact manager.

Odd creation times

Can anyone here shed light on this:

My sister, in the US Eastern time zone sent me a message with this
time info stamped:

Created: Fri, 15 Mar 2002 19:19:50 (Fri, 15 Mar 2002 17:19:50 -0800)
Received: Fri, 15 Mar 2002 16:21:08

I am in the US Central time zone (+1 hour difference)

The received time is correct.
The time shown as her local time for creation is correct but the time
shown as my local time for creation is off by three hours.

Any ideas?

Is it her computer?
Her MUA (TB! v1.53d)
My computer? Doubtful as she said someone else told her that her
computer time was screwed up, but the time display on her computer is
correct.

Has me baffled, not that that is any great feat mind you.

Digest bursting

2002-03-08 Thread Nick Danger

I'll admit to being a digest neophyte, so I was wondering if TB! can
do this or not:

(message from friend)

There's a mailing list I belong to that is only available in digest form. I
prefer to read individual mails. There are ways to burst digests which
are in standard digest form, but I haven't found a Windows mail reader that
does this. So I use a workaround. I get my mail through Panix, which offers
a Unix shell. I save the digest to a folder and then use the unix command
formail to break the digests down into individual messages, which I can
then deal with as I prefer.

Does anyone know of an MS-Windows mail reader that handles standard digest
 bursting?

Any digest guru care to answer?

Automated Dead Equine??

2002-01-15 Thread Nick Danger

Mainly to Marck, but perhaps other moderators could answer...

Do you automate via filters your dead horse notifications?

It just hit me as I noticed what I think is the same nomenclature in
the last couple of them for the Poco mail thread. It seems possible
to have an inactive DH filter that once you deem a thread dead you
could paste the pertinent part of the subject into the filter,
activate it, and then automatically send out the DH notice for any
future postings on this subject.

Of course, this is just off the top of my head and not at all thought
out so if I'm talking jibberish just ignore me.

Hello Allie,

If the message being displayed has attachments, then the
attachments display bar will count as another pane to tab through.
Having a shortcut that takes you straight to the account tree would
 therefore be useful.

My thoughts exactly. The reasoning behind it for me is I wanted to
make a macro that automatically popped focus to the account tree and
then paged up to the top when I hit my switch desktop button. That
way every time I popped to my mail desktop TB! would be there and
waiting queued up in my work directory and ready for business! But
alas, it appears not to be possible as for the tab sequence to work I
would always need to be in the same spot previously to exiting.

Not a big problem by any stretch, just one more little way I was
trying to use PP to become even more lazier! ;-)

Hello Karl,

S When new mail arrives, The Bat!'s icon begins to flap its wings. Is
S there a way to make it move only if new mail arrives to the Inbox
 S folder?

Try to use MailTicker instead. Tip: you can move it mostly off the
screen so only a small black sqaure will appear and will not crowd
 your screen.

The problem with this is that the bat keeps on flapping. I believe that what
is desired is for the icon to stop moving if the new messages are not in the
mailbox, but have been filtered to a different folder.

At the risk of sounding like I'm hawking a software product, I use
PowerPro in combination with TB!'s ability to run an external program
via filters to set up various colored flags to show on screen
depending on which folder mail has arrived in. These flags can be
whatever size you'd like, I keep mine very small and discrete. I have
then programmed them to either take me to my virtual desktop where TB!
resides with a right click, or simply reset the flag on a left click.
Works wonderfully for me as a mail notification system.

Bizarre Toolbar Behavior

Check this nutty stuff out:

If I open the editor in one account the toolbar Send and place in

All other accounts are send , then outbox.

I just noticed the behavior after the recent upgrade to 1.53 today.
Noticed because I was suddenly sending stuff to the outbox instead of
sending. But why only one account?!

Anyone got any ideas?
