There is also an insert symbol in both the HTML editor and test editor that should work, but it seems to be a bit messed up.

You can just use BCC instead of the To: field for the list. You may still have to put your address in the To: field though.

Hmmm. Unfortunately I find that depending on the ISP and probably what IMAP
platform they use, that filtering is a bit flaky. I have some accounts that
will
automatically filter my messages 90 % of the time, but then refuse to filter
identical messages no matter what I do. Its like The Bat just quits filtering
at

I also come up against the ones that don't filter automatically, but filter
just
fine with re-filter.

It works here. I wonder if it matters if account b is below account a in the

Moving IMAP servers

Hello Tbudl,

I need to change my email accounts from one provider to another. They are
IMAP
and I don't want to lose the email in those accounts. Any suggestions.

If I change the existing IMAP account in The Bat to point to the new servers
will the email in that account disappear because there is no mail on the new
server to sync, or will the local mail I have sync up to the new server.

What if I back my local account up, rename that account, create a new account
with the same name and then restore the backup work?

Help???

When you forward a message you get a pop -up that has a lot of choices
including
whether of not to include attachments and whether it is test or HTML. You may
want to play with those. The other option is to redirect instead of forwarding.
That usually leaves things as they initially were.

You should be able to add a subfilter that would forward by selecting only the
folder that the messages were moved to.

T If I create a Virtual Folder that selects items based on color group
T (in fact one of 5 colors), then within a few usages each group in the

CW Thanks Stuart, the more I look at View Modes, and tabs the more

CW many means of accessing the menus for these, and seemingly no rhyme
CW nor reason in what overrides what. I have used The Bat! for very

CW Modes, Folder View Modes and now Tabs. What a hodge podge of
CW disparate menus, it needs sorting! I have now managed to lock up TB!
CW messing with these, it *appears* using Tabs it will try and select
CW more than one tab at a time, and also seems to get its knickers in a
CW twist balancing Tabs and View Modes and deciding which to use.

The one thing I learned early on, was to set Global View Mode to No View Mode
and leave it there. I see no purpose for it and if you set it to anything but
No View Mode it just takes over everything.

Re: Make IMAP in The Bat iPad-Like?

Hello Tbudl,
A reminder of what tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com typed on:
  Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 03:01:01 GMT +0200

aas Plus, as suggested before, besides the 3 currently available options,
aas an additional 4th option (iPad-like) might really be useful:

aas * Headers only
aas * Headers and Textual Parts
aas * Entire messages
aas --- Apply choice to _ most recent messages

aas The default might be all messages, but the user could input a number
aas like 500 or 1000. I just don't need to see hundreds of thousands of
aas email headers from previous decades on an SSD disk where empty
aas space is still at a premium, and displaying and browsing such gigantic
aas folders is probably just slowing down The Bat.

aas I'm now going to drastically cut down on the number of subscribed
aas folders to see if it makes any difference on the overall speed and
aas usability of the IMAP Bat. :-)

I'm not sure about that option, but you could use TB's filtering features to
move files to a separate folder based on the number of emails or the age of
the
emails. This could be an archive folder and you could just unsubscribe that
folder.

I agree though that there seems to be something wrong with IMAP in general.
Things take too long to download, much longer than they used to before the
major
IMAP upgrade. Large amounts of data seem to get downloaded even though nothing
has changed since the last update.

Another thing I just discovered, and I wonder if you or someone else could test
it. I picked a folder that had over 1000 messages in it and right clicked on
the
folder and selected empty folder. It appeared to empty the folder and it is
now in the process of downloading every message again. In other words the local
folder was emptied and now it is filling it up again, instead of emptying the
folder on the server and then syncing the empty folder.

Also as mentioned earlier filtering messages seems to be hit and miss.

you see fit. See Options/Preferences/Message List/View Modes . Create a new
view
mode and save it. For example I have one view mode for Incoming mail, one for
Sent mail and one for mailing lists. Once you have saved the view modes, you
can Right-click on a folder and select the Folder View mode you want to assign.
It is important to note that you need to set View/Global View Mode to None, or
it will over-ride all view modes.

On a message that has is HTML there should be a little globe with a question

allowed they will open from then on. You can do this manually each time or

The idea behind this is to stop bad things form loading in Spam etc. In those

Yes. This is the beauty of IMAP. It will place the new mail into folders

As far as quota on the server you may have to create an archive for older

NZc recommend switching over to another client.

The quality of TB!'s IMAP is still an issue. I use it and it is OK, but not
great. Others can't use it at all and others have no problems. It does seem to
matter on the settings, whether you download all messages or just headers, etc.
If you are using an IMAP server in house its hard to say whether some of the

You should be able to addthe predefined Macro %BCC=[EMAIL PROTECTED] to all

A 2. Since BCC'ing to myself every e-mail sent will create duplicates of that
A e-mail on the originating computer, what rule or filter can I create that
A will automatically delete the BCC'd item from the originating computer.
A There appears to be no BCC field in the filter's parameters.

You may have to delete the original as it is created, but you could also try
automatically sorting e-mail sent by you to you into your sent mail folder and
then use the folders Delete Duplicates command.

A only pick up newer mail, and not the mail downloaded by the first computer. I
A checked my gmail settings and discovered that I have IMAP enabled for each of
A my g-mail accounts and nothing is checked in the POP download section of the
A settings area. Since I only keep listserv mail in gmail, I never want that
A mail deleted from the gmail servers. So, how should I configure those
A settings so that The Bat will be able to download the mail to both computers?

You need to recreate those accounts in The Bat as IMAP accounts. Then you can
do
what is the best way to go anyway. IMAP rules. (When it works right). :)

Note also Dwights reply that you don't need to keep all you files on the IMAP
account. You can download to your hard drive and archive them, then delete them
off the IMAP server. BTW, I actually find that The Bat's IMAP seems to work

However, for synchronization, I can either use The Bat's own
synchronization feature OR Dan Lester's recommendation to use the

By leaving the mail on the server you do not need to sync except for Sent mail.
When you connect to your email account with either machine it will download the
mail that the current computer has not downloaded before. (Note: you must make
sure that both computers are set up to leave mail on server.)

To get sent mail you would need to CC or BCC yourself.

If you plan on syncing the 2 computers anyway, then you do not need to leave
messages on the server as it would serve no purpose.

That brings us to the question of synchronization. Although The Bat offers a
synchronization feature; after reading about this in the Help Topics, I assume

No, synchronization works with POP, it is not necessary with IMAP.

If that is so, then, if I want to be able to download messages on the laptop
as well as the desktop in a POP3 environment, I would have to be willing to
live with not being able to see on one computer, what messages were read or
not read on the other. Is that correct?

Not sure what you mean here as your original hypothesis was wrong.

Alternatively, could I set up The Bat on the laptop, but have it point to the
mail directory on the desktop where the messages are kept, and merely copy
that directory to my laptop when I travel with it, which is only a few times
 a year?

Yes this should work.

If the answer to this is yes, how do I make an installation of The Bat on
the laptop point to the mail directory on the desktop?

Two different things. Either you use the mail directory on the desktop as your
main directory in which case when you travel your laptop would not be able to
find it, or you let the laptop create its own directory for mail and then when
you want to go travelling you copy the mail directory from the desktop. Neither
of these would work well as when you travel messages that you download on the
road would not end up back on your desktop.

Would this, then, obviate the need to blind BCC myself on every message sent
 from the laptop?

See above.

And, if I do that, will downloads initiated from the laptop place mail in the
mail directory on the desktop so long as I have the laptop's installation of
The Bat point to the Mail folder located on the desktop?

See above.

Just as an aside, IMAP is not particularly slow, and really is best for what
you are trying to do. Having said that I don't think IMAP in TB! is quite ready
enough for the business environment. Again to test this for yourself, sign up
for a free account with fastmail.fm and subscribe to The Bat lists with that
account. You can then see how it works.

Having said that I would still think that BCCing yourself and leaving messages
on
the server until downloaded by the laptop would be your best bet.

LSB catch these messages, but it is a chore. Rick is not the only person
LSB whose mail behaves this way. A poster on another list repeatedly ends
LSB up in Junk.

Are you sure it is ASS and not a filter, possibly an old filter that you deleted
a long time ago, or thought you had. This happened to me the other day and when
I investigated it was an old common filter that had not worked for ages, but
with the release of 4.0.20 it seems to have reactivated.

Hello Michael,
A reminder of what Michael J. Sharp typed on:

MJS So please tell us how you got it working. I would settle for just GMail
support at
MJS this stage. In another thread I include an admission from RITLabs
MJS there are problems with it.

IMAP with Gmail works here, with the caveat that IMAP generally has problems
such as counters not always working and refreshing not working well. True it is
frustrating, but it can be tolerated if necessary. Having said that I really
look forward to Ritlabs addressing the problems and making IMAP as reliable as
POP.

I run 4 IMAP accounts and each one has its own quirks. I think this is
completely dependant dependent on the server.

Have you tried various messages. I am also having this problem, but only with

one thing I know is that it is when replying to an Outlook created message, but
I have no idea if that is related.

LSB Well, that works like a charm. On this message at least grin

LSB The mystery remains about why the F4 stopped working.

Probably not the same problem I have as F4 works on almost all messages except
for a few. Also F7 brings up the Message finder.

To check what shortcut is set for Reply Quoting Selected Text select
View/Toolbars/Customize and select the Shortcuts Tab. Then select Main
Form/Main Menu/Specials and look for Reply Quoting Selected Text. If its not F4
you should be able to change it.

Some days ago i asked why i can't receive the messages i post here and

and indeed: messages sent to mailing lists don't show in the inbox.
Gmail automatically skips the inbox and archives the message. The
message will appear in the inbox if someone responds to it or if there
is an error delivering the message.

If i like to view the message, you need to go to Mail or All Mail.

Does anybody know how i can solve that or is the only solution
(besides using another account) setting up a filter in gmail?

You can cc yourself, but you might be better off getting a different account
and subscribing to the lists through the new account. You can get a free
account from fastmail.fm and then you can test IMAP with us when the next beta
round starts. It is supposed to be concentrating on IMAP for us very, very, very
patient IMAP users. ;)
