PO directory/filenames.

I think you would have the same problem with a Samba share. What you
have works for you; that's okay. I was passing on best practice. Also,
I'd be surprised if you can use hyper links to access network shares.

MW I think you'll find it's the same for URI; you shouldn't include
MW spaces in network resources.

PO True for internet domain names. From the top of my head, not true for
PO directory names, can't find the related RFC right now though.

That's not what I was saying. \\SME\mp3 isn't a directory name it's a
networking resource. That's why the UNC applies.

PO Reviewing your original remark, we're getting off track here.

Yep. I'll copy this to TBOT should you wish to continue the thread.

PO Your comment was related to TB and windows shares like
PO \\server\share. This is not internet related, which (very simply
PO stated) uses protocol://server/dir/file.

Look carefully; they're the same... using backslashes is a Windows
thing.

PO Just another remark: TB can't work with something like (windows)
PO \\server\share to store mail bases. You'll need to use a mapped
PO network drive for that.

That's correct.

My mail databases are stored in \\servername\sharepoint. I don't
think I've had to use a mapped network drive since version 1.5x. I
*do* keep a drive mapped to the mail directory just for easy access,
but some time ago I started experimenting with changing the mapped

following error message when I attempt to install The Bat to the
c:\program directory: cannot access directory \\DESKTOP\THE BAT!\MAI

In place of the word desktop is the name that I assigned to the desktop
computer on our in-home network.

Why would it try to access the desktop? And, even though a Bat
subdirectory was created within the program directory, when I attempt to
click on the bat.exe file, I get the same error message. Why? Is this a
network problem or is it a problem with the way in which I configured The

You will have to setup a workgroup for your network; e.g. MSHOME. And in
the workgroup you have at least two computers: DESKTOP and LAPTOP.

If you share a folder called 'THE_BAT!' (in My Documents) it will be
known as \\DESKTOP\THE_BAT! on your network. You need to copy the
installer (thebat.exe) to this folder. Note: shares cannot have spaces
in their name.

Now, from your laptop you need to open 'My Network Places'. If you've
set up the network correctly you will see a folder called 'THE_BAT! on
DESKTOP' (or similar). Open the folder and copy thebat.exe to a folder
on your laptop. Now you should be able to run the installer without
problem.

If you can't copy the file across... there's a network problem that
needs sorting first.

Install TB! on the laptop. Create and configure the accounts. Download
the mail, then do a synchronization on just the folders with messages.

The synchronisation involves providing the laptop installation with a
current snapshot of your desktop system. The snapshot is created by
running step 1 of the synchronisation process on the desktop machine.
Copy the snapshot to disk and then using this, create the
synchronisation data file on the laptop. To do this run step 2 of the
synchronisation process on the laptop. It'll ask for the desktop
snapshot file when doing so. Finally, run step 3 on the desktop machine
using the synchronisation data file you created on the laptop.

Yes, it is.

If so, how do I do this?

My preferred method is as follows:
In the laptop installed Bat!, create a new filter that catches
_all_ incoming mail. Move it to the top of the filter-list.
Under Tab Actions select Export Message to file and name
the directory\file where the messages are to be saved into.
Choose Unix Mailbox file as Export format. Choose Append to
existing file.

This filter will create a copy of _all_ incoming mail into 1
standard unix mailbox formatted file.

[] can I have the home pc refilter everything that is on the
laptop into the correct folders.

This should be the easiest part. All mail received on your laptop
is in one file. You can now import this file into the Inbox of
the home pc (click on Inbox, choose: Tools - Import Messages -
From UNIX-mailboxes and select filename). Then choose Folder -
Re-filter and all imported messages are now processed according
to your home pc filter settings!

The licences for the 1.xx versions are one-person licences. You can
use TB with one registration on different computers, but not at the
same time. This was Ritlab's reply to me when I asked them the same
question a few years ago, as I had one copy of TB installed at home,

The licences for v2 will be single-computer licences, the way I read
