Ah ha, now I know where I'm looking for these things, I can work out how to
configure them to my needs. Much more versatile than I'm use to.

Thanks for the help.

Missing feature?

2001-05-07 Thread Richard Lane

Hello TBUDL,

I've been using The Bat for a few days now and so far I'm extremely
impressed and plan to register it in a few days time.

However, there's something that I'm either missing how to do, or it isn't
available. When I open a folder from one of the many mailing lists I'm
subscribed to and select new, I have to open up the address book to select
the address for it. Is there a way of specifying a default address that
should be inserted on any new mails created when in a particular folder?

Check out the folder properties. You can define folder specific
templates for messages with variants for New, Reply and Forwarding. I
would advise against reply templates which include the following macro
but it's okay for New messages.

Define a folder template which includes this:

%TO=%TO='List members [EMAIL PROTECTED]'

For replies, define an address book entry for the address of the list
and do something like:

%TO=%TO='%OFROMNAME on %ABoreplyNAME %OREPLYADDR'

The %ABoreplyNAME macro pulls up the full name of the list, so keep it
simple at that level.

Hi Marck,

Historians believe that Mon, 7 May 2001 at 11:54 GMT +0100 was when,
Marck D. Pearlstone [MP] typed the following:

snip
MP I would advise against reply templates which include the following
MP macro but it's okay for New messages.

MP Define a folder template which includes this:

MP %TO=%TO='List members [EMAIL PROTECTED]'

I thought this was the worst place to use a %TO macro. If you have
this macro, you're in the folder and you click a mailto link, then the
address gets changed to the list address. By the same token, clicking
on an address in TB does the same.

A better solution is to make an address book entry for the list and
make it a favourite. Then if you click the little down arrow next to
the new message icon, you get a list of your favourites. TB organizes
that menu nicely if you use groups.

While this is true and fine, it's good to get into the habit of using
the %TO=''%TO='' construct to empty the To: field before adding a
new address to it. The %TO macro is cumulative.
