Couldn't you use Allie's suggestion, but export all unread messages
first (filter before exporting), import them into your new folder (may
take a few exports), *then* mark them all read. After that, change
your previous filter and export all read messages.

POP - IMAP Migration

2004-05-12 Thread Kevin J. Menard, Jr.
Hi,

Has anyone here been able to copy their messages from an old POP
account to an IMAP server? I can't seem to be able to do it. I tried
when tb! 2.0 first came out, and couldn't get it to work, so I filed a
bug report, which was then closed saying that it works. But if I go to
my old POP account, select all the messages and Copy to a new folder
on my IMAP account, not all of the messages get copied. I got a little
further by modifying all of my old filters to do a Copy to, but even
this doesn't always copy all the messages. It's not a quota issue,
since I don't have quotas enabled. And I don't think it's a speed
issue, since the IMAP server is connected to the same switch as my
workstation (and just to make sure, I let it try to copy for an hour,
and nothing more was copied). Furthermore, tb! doesn't pop up anything
saying that it's copying the files, so I really have no indication of
where it is in the process. Anyway, I have about 1,500 emails that I
would like to put on my IMAP server so I can access them from anywhere.
If anyone has any hints on how to get this done, please let me know.

Thanks,
Kevin

I suggest trying an export and import operation. Another option would
be to do a series of copy operations, copying 150-200 messages at a
time. I've been where you are and it would seem that TB! chokes on
moving/copying a large number of messages from POP to IMAP or the
reverse. I know this is tedious but this is how IMAP is with regards
to TB! at the moment, i.e., often an exercise in tedium because of
bugs etc.

Good Luck!

Hi Allie,

Thanks for the response, although it wasn't quite what I was hoping for.
I tried exporting my messages as mbox files and loading them with
Mail.app (which has better IMAP support), but found that the read flag
values weren't maintained. Do you know of a workaround for this?

Thanks,
Kevin

When you do an export, the read flagging is lost. But that's not
really a problem since you can easily mark them read after importing
by right clicking the destination folder and marking all messages read.

Yes, but the problem is, some messages are read and others are not. So

Thanks again,
