Well, since the emergency email retrieval was successful I think I'm going to leave well enough alone. Although, both she and I (two different computers) have seen occasional "divide by zero" error messages pop up when TB is started. I immediately shut TB down and re-start it and it always comes up clean, no error messages. She didn't know to do that and would blithely continue using TB after she cleared the message. I suppose we'll never know if that had anything to do with her losing emails. Still, I'd like to know what those messages mean. The next time I get one I'll contact the list for help. The messages displayed in the SENT folder were exactly as they were yesterday and no other messages were displayed when I selected the SENT folder and chose BROWSE DELETED MESSAGES from the main menu. Because I had never done what you suggested before, I tried it on my computer and it works exactly as you said. Deleted messages showed up as being struck-out and could be restored by hitting the DELETE key, counterintuitive though that may be. And, as postulated by MFPA, the SENT folder is NOT configured to automatically delete or compress or purge. I have the MESSAGES.TBB file from her Carbonite backup of the SENT folder which I'll try to restore today. If the backup file is also corrupted, Carbonite also keeps earlier versions of everything it backs up so I should be able to retrieve an earlier version if necessary. The message might still be there but hidden. With the SENT folder highlighted, go to Folder / Browse Deleted Messages in the Main Menu. You'll see all messages, including the ones that have been deleted or move, those are in stike-out font. He can restore them by highlighting the message and hitting the DEL key. In order to delete messages from the folder, you have to purge and compress.
