There is a slightly awkward way of doing it, that is to type (c ) (which has an
extra space between the "c" and the ")") and then go back and delete that
space. The required (c) then stays .

This seems to be a feature of the PureHTML editor, and I haven't found a way to
turn it off. If you switch to RichText editor instead (which is slightly more
limited), the changing doesn't happen.

Maybe you should stop using HTML to write e-mail. I just typed in (c) directly
in this mail without using any space character and it has stayed the same.
Let's see if it survives posting to the mailing list.
I never use HTML in e-mail.

I also have the same version of The Bat! Pro 10.3.2 (64-bit Halloween edition
without autoupdate) but on Windows 10 Professional

turning off automatic copyright symbol with (c)

2022-12-16 Thread Avram Sacks
HI,

As an attorney, I am frequently needing to cite statute and regulation
subsections in e-mails. Often, I need to type a "c" within parentheses in order
to indicate a particular section's subsection, such as SSA § 202(c). However,
in normal typing, "(c)" automatically changes to "©" unless I use a work-around
by typing a space between the "c" and one of the parentheses, and then, later,
using the backspace key to close up the space.  This is tedious!   How can I
turn off this "feature?"  I see nothing in the "Preferences" window that
addresses this.

Thanks.
