Ok here's one for the pgp gooroos.
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi Bat! people, I'm trying to write an encrypted mail using TB 2.00.06 GnuPg v1.22 Nr2 Nullify using the builtin support for Gpg. When i try to encrypt to an unsigned key, the program tells me the program isn't sure whether the key really belongs to whom it claims to belong to, and this is write, however if you use Gpg without the plugin it lets me choose whether i want to go on encrypting anyway or just leave it be, a thing the bat!'s builtin support doesn't offer. In other words, the built-in support forces me to sign a key before i can use it. I understand the security thinking behind this but should i consider this a bug or a feature? I myself consider it a buglet which i hope will be fixed in future versions, since i want to avoid having to use gpgtray as much as possible when using TB!. Address Book
Hello tbudl, I use the Palm desktop as my primary address book. I know, ugly compared to the TB address book, but I need them on the road. I export the Palm data to a .vcf file and then import into TB. After import, the Display Name as field is set to User defined. The result of this setting is that, for TB to find an entry when generating a new message, I must type the first name then last name to get a hit. If I change the Display Name as field to Last, first middle, then I can type the last name, comma, first name in a new message and get a hit, which is what I want to do. How can I globally change the Display Name as field to Last, first middle? Must I change each entry one at a time? IMAP
Hi TBUDLers, I've not paid much attention to IMAP threads previously as I didn't have an IMAP capable account set up. But now I have an IMAP account and have been attempting to use it. Now obviously I'm an IMAP newbie and perhaps am not entirely understanding how IMAP is supposed to work, but some things just don't seem right. * 2 folders that were deleted days ago (and are no longer on the server) continue to appear in my account folder list. If I try to delete them, I am told they no longer exist. The only way to be rid of them was to delete the account altogether and readd it. This seems a cumbersome and impractical thing to have to do any time folders are deleted. Surely this isn't the way it's supposed to work? * I sometimes get access violation errors dealing with folders, particularly sub-folders. Is this a yet-to-be-addressed bug? * I seem to be unable to import messages into an IMAP folder. I would like to import locally stored messages from my POP account. I do Tools / Import / TBB and select the appropriate TBB. It says they are imported, but they apparently only display locally and have no persistance. After TB is closed and reopened, the imported messages are not there. Shouldn't imported messages write back to the server as part of synchronization? Or is this just the nature of the beast? Is there any way to do what I'm intending (aside from a redirect and losing date/time info)? -- Dave Using TB! 2.00.6 on Windows XP Pro Current version is 2.00 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

E Elaine http://www.mailinator.com/mailinator/Welcome.do Actually you have the option of doing both. You can make up an email on the fly say you are out some where... or if you go to the web page it auto generates one for you to use Look right below where it says to chk your email. It says: Want an autogenerated email? [EMAIL PROTECTED] Check that inbox HERE That email address above is auto generated everytime you visit the web page. How to filter Worm (the Microsoft one)
Hi all, For about a week now I get tons of email with this worm that pretends coming from Microsoft and being a security update (most of you will know the worm, I think it is called Swen). In the beginning I thought my internet provider would filter it after a day or it would just stop, but it's getting more and more. There are two emails, one appearing to be from Microsoft, another one telling me that a message couldn't be deliver. Both have this 106K attachment containing the worm. How do I filter this? The message text changes a little bit each time and I can't filter for an attachment length. Can anyone please just quickly post a working filter for this. Can't Delete Zombie Messages
Hello Batpeople, I upgraded to V2, and find that I am having a hard time (=impossible) deleting messages. I am using POP3 since IMAP is not yet working. Messages which are filtered and downloaded are removed from the server, which is what I want. There are others that I want to download by hand then delete from the server. I have tried everything: moving to trash, pressing delete (this gives an access violation), using the dispatcher (but they are not shown in the dispatcher window), and even deleting the files MESSAGES.TBI and MESSAGES.TBB from the account/inbox directory. Yet these 59 zombie messages are still shown in inbox folder in The Bat! I've run folder maintenance to no avail. Suggestions please! _ | Edward J. Re: Selective Download inconsistencies
I am concerned that my Selected Download filters aren't working right. Well, no one else seems to be responding so I will. I think part of my problem may be that I'm using filter strings with the 'Entire Header' option checked. Many of the strings I was using were really only appropriate filters for subject lines or from. I am going to create separate files for ignore_subject, ignore_from, kill_subject, kill_from, etc.. Maybe I am misreading the Help system, but I thought that Selective Download did not allow TB's 'special syntax' - so I don't understand the prefixes you are using in your list (MainSet:) How does: MainSet: microsoft MainSet: Internet MainSet: critical Differ from: microsoft Internet critical ?? It was only about 65% effective, so I have switched strategies. I am now filtering at the ISP level for all messages over a certain size. Since I only use this address for newsgroups and mailing lists, it should work fine; at least, it has been working so far today Has that method been consistent? I tried this too, and it has worked for the Swen.A messages so far. I set my threshold at 90K. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 On Wednesday, September 24, 2003, gd_news wrote... I'm using The Bat! 1.62, there are multiple mail accounts set up. These accounts use different providers. The PC is connected to a LAN all the time. Now, sometimes when the automatic mailbox check is done or when I press check mail for all, I get prompted with a window to confirm username and password and a checkbox named Update account's data. This shouldn't happen - the accounts have not changed in any way. When I press OK, The Bat! reports an error... (mostly: connection to host broken). When I then press get new mail for this mailaccount, it works without error - so the settings were still correct! Have you checked the error messages in the log? I see this from time to time when a connection gets killed for whatever reason, and you attempt to connect before the lock file on the server is removed. The server returns an error message about not being able to log in because of the lock file, but TB sometimes prompts for the user/pass combination again. As they are valid, by the time you click OK, the lock has been removed because they tend to have an expire time. Outlook is terrible for doing that, I noticed it a lot on networks with WinGate as a proxy server. - -- Jonathan Angliss ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Yes, you're right. Remember most scanners do virus scans on opening a file, and writing a file. To do a virus scan safely, it has to get in front of the application that is trying to open it, and as such, will perform an OS level lock it until the file is finished with.
