Re: [Texascavers] Robber Baron Open House Report

2017-11-12 Thread Mimi Jasek via Texascavers
Congratulations to all! What a wonderful turnout for such a worthy cause.
Hopefully we will be able to help again next time, but Jim’s heart trouble
prevented us from doing so this time. It is always such a fun event, and sounds
like you had enough volunteers so that all got a break
without being in the cave or at a specific post all day.

We will look forward to next time.

Re: [Texascavers] more footage

2017-08-26 Thread Mimi Jasek via Texascavers
Sorry about earlier no content. Got pulled away. Not cave related, but about
Rockport damage footage.

My brother lives in Rockport, and made it out with a friend and his cat to I
believe a Quality Inn in Buda. He said in some of the footage that Nancy
showed, there was a large, tall building with siding all stripped off etc. That
was a place holding @ 350 boats, and was where he most often launched his boat
to go out fishing. His RV park is about 1.5 miles away as the crow flies.

The owner of the park somehow made it back down from San Antonio later today to
check on things, and told my brother the tongue of his trailer was in the sand,
but otherwise looked ok, the friend he took out of the area and her neighbor's
trailers looked untouched, Tuck's chicken coop and chickens were miraculously
ok, but every other trailer was on it's top or side really messed up ☹️ I
believe his bigger boat and kayak were also intact, but no sign of his 5
wheeler. When they are allowed back in the area, they will find somewhere close
to live for a while till they can rebuild.

At least today we have warning systems and ways of communication to allow
people to escape a natural disaster such as this if they choose to. Things can
be replaced, but not life!

Thoughts with all those affected, including evacuated cavers who made it to SA
and Austin. Hope flooding does not give you trouble there, and devastation to
your homes not too intense!!

Safe returns.

Re: [Texascavers] potential future TCR attendees

2016-10-18 Thread Mimi Jasek via Texascavers
As to the Jaseks, we missed the last two years due to my recovering from
unexpected surgery both years which made travel and camping unacceptable risks
to total recovery. This was known to those who needed to know. I also still
work, and being a responsible person, can not always take off when convenient
for me if it jeopardizes the FI where I work for.

But as I said, this is need to know for those in charge ☺️

So how many cavers on this list were there? I was, and can think of about 10
others for sure, probably more. All you Old Timers let us know. You more
recent cavers probably will just want to delete these messages as yet more
trivial reminescenses from folks who don't go caving anymore (except for
notable exceptions like Steele, Sprouse, Minton, Garza, Broussard, Binney,
and a few others--not sure who is on this list).

Re: [Texascavers] tcr

2014-08-29 Thread Mimi Jasek via Texascavers
George,

I just checked Jim's caving logs, and he was on a reconnaissance trip to a cave
that would end up being his life's work from then to now. I was home with Amy.
We had all been to the whole NSS Convention in New Braunfels earlier in the
summer - perhaps where we first met you?

Mimi

I know why I skipped it. I didn’t understand what it was and could become,
and I had a good caving trip planned to the Langtry caves.

 Logan,

For some reason we missed the first one - around daughter Amy's birthday -
 but made second.

Jim and I would need to be on that list of old timers who still go caving,
 too:)
