[tw] Re: Announcing TiddlyWiki 5.0.15-beta

2014-08-21 Thread Ton Gerner
Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the upgrade to 5.0.15-beta.
One feature was already very useful: disabling plugins.
After upgrading my 5.0.14 version of TW5 tristate Sidebar [1] the tristate
functionality did not work. I thought I had to repack the plugin, but tried
to disable (+ save/reload) it first. And yes after enabling (+ save/reload)
it did work again. So no repacking needed.

One question (has nothing to do with the upgrade):
I added a 'readme' file to my plugin (it shows up as shadow tiddler) and
thought the information should show up when clicking the '' button next to
the plugin. But it only shows 'No information provided'.
Did I miss something?

Cheers,

Ton

[tw] Download Empty not working in IE

2014-08-21 Thread Marc J. Cawood
Just tried to download from tiddlywiki.com using the green Download Empty
button. The download works in FF but not in IE and it's weird. Fiddler is
not even showing a request. The browser says Do you want to save
guid.htm and shows a size of 1.1MB but when you click OK it says
guid.htm couldn't be downloaded. Retry doesn't help.

 Hi,

The first beta of TiddlyWiki for Scholars is out there:

 http://tw5.scholars.tiddlyspot.com

It is a version of TiddlyWiki intended for academic note taking, but it
can be used for many other purposes. It is based on the idea that the most
relevant information related to a tiddler should be accessible from
within that tiddler, i.e. without leaving it or opening other tiddlers.
That information is made accessible through a tabs bar at the bottom of
each tiddler. So its like a Tiddler Info on steroïds :)

There are still many features to add, bugs to kill, and things to improve.

I hope you'll find it useful. And don't hesitate to report bugs and

You can easily remove them.

2014-08-21 Thread Ton Gerner
Hi Danielo,

You are right.

My Bluish theme is already a plugin (longtime ago hacked together). I
have to make a nice plugin of it.
My readonly plugin was my first real plugin. It did work in TW5.0.13-beta,
but now I have problems.Needs time to fix it.
My tristate toggle Sidebar plugin works with TW5.0.15-beta.
Other customizations will follow but first I have to upgrade all my guides
to TW5.0.15-beta.

I make my plugins in the browser. I remember you did that in the past as
well.

Cheers,

Ton

 Hi Ton

Is there something similar for the Sidebar (double chevron) button?

In 5.0.16 I plan to bring the same customisability to the topbar as we
 have for the sidebar buttons.

Nice. Will give more flexibility, also for my top menu toolbar.

Usecase: my (TW5.0.13) read-only plugin [1] that does not work properly
 in TW5.0.14.

In $:/plugins/tongerner/ro/publish I can toggle the visibility of the
Sidebar button on/off (CSS-wise), which works. But when I switch to
read-only mode (CSS-wise like the ReadOnly theme), the left double chevron
 becomes visible again!
If I can hide the Sidebar button with some 'visibility' tiddler

I'm not sure why you can't hide the sidebar chevrons with CSS. Is it just
that the CSS classes are different for the left and right chevrons?

In analogy with the styles in the ReadOnly theme I use:

svg.tw-image-chevron-left {
 display: none;
}

svg.tw-image-chevron-right {
 display: none;
}

And although the images disappear, there is something wrong: the button is
still usable although not visible. So it acts more like visibility: hidden than
display: none.
That was already in TW5.0.13-beta, so nothing new, but it is strange.

For some reason in TW 5.0.14/15-beta the left chevron icon reappears when I
apply the ReadOnly styles.
But in TW 5.0.14/15-beta I can hide per button (no ReadOnly styles needed
anymore).
And hopefully in TW5.016 I can hide the Sidebar button as well.

I will refactor my readonly plugin accordingly.

Cheers,

Ton

 Hi Jeremy,

The visibility tiddlers must contain the text hide to suppress the
associated button. If the visibility tiddler is missing then it's value
 defaults to show.

So, in the case of the PageControls and ViewToolbar buttons there are
several buttons that are hidden by default, hence the visibility tiddlers.
In the case of the EditToolbar, all three of the available buttons are
visible, and so no visibility tiddlers are required.

 Thanks for explaining.
I expected shadow visibility tiddlers for the EditToolbar as well (to
define the 'show' state at start-up). I understand now these visibility
tiddlers for the EditToolbar are just state tiddlers created 'on demand'.

 Cheers,

 Ton

[tw] [TW5] ListWidget values to lower level filters

2014-08-21 Thread kccnospam
My apologies in advance for what I am sure is something that's been done
many times before but I can't seem to find the answer in the docs or the
groups.

Very simply, I'd like to achieve a foreach type behavior to create a
nested list.

At the top level, I want to read the list field from a given tiddler which
contains a list of tags and use each entry to create the top level list
Then for each entry in the list, I want to find all the tiddlers that have
that tag and display them in a sublist

The ListWidget docs have the basic framework for what I want, but I can't
figure out how to send the current value from the list in the top level
tiddler to the filter operator of the child list.

I'm pretty sure I need to use the setWidget to save the value, but again, I
can't figure out how to dereference the macro inside the filter operator.

Is there an example somewhere that might help?

Thanks,

Kevin

Without TiddlyFox (the Firefox add-on for TW), Firefox is unable to perform
direct local file I/O. When this occurs, TW falls back to use the brower's
built-in download-and-save handler to simulate a remote download, which
prompts you to save the file (if you've set your browser to ask, rather
than just saving to the default location). While this interactive process
is somewhat less convenient than direct file I/O, it *does* allow you to
save your changes locally, even without the Firefox add-on.

Of course, if you were in a work environment that allowed you to install
software, there are other alternatives for saving TiddlyWiki documents:

* TiddlyDesktop is a stand-alone application that provides a built-in
embedded browser for viewing and editing TiddlyWiki documents. However,
unlike the security-restrictions imposed by a general-purpose browser,
TiddlyDesktop is permitted to perform local file I/O (limited to the
current folder and sub-folders). TiddlyDesktop is available for Windows,
Mac, and Unix/Linux operating systems.

* Using 'nodejs' (a browserless javascript engine), TiddlyWiki5 can run
as a local server (i.e., http://127.0.0.1:8080) that reads/writes tiddler
data from individual files (stored in a sub-folder) and automatically
assembles a working TiddlyWiki5 document that you can access with any web
browser. Changes to tiddlers are written back to the individual files,
which can also be hand-edited externally using any text editor you like.

hope this helps,
enjoy,

thought Java script skills were needed. How do you did your plugins?

 Regards,

 Alberto

[tw] [TW5] Feature Request : Make the .tid files name:value pairs start with ##

2014-08-21 Thread Shash
Hi all,

I use a lot of text files in my daily work and a great way to sort them is
naming them as *.tid files and storing them in the directory and starting
the node.js server. Sometimes there are occasions that I like to save some
code snippets as well.

Hence a request to have the .tid files' name:value pairs to start with ##
or anything after #. This would be great as it would be easier to run some
of these codes directly just by renaming the file.

Also, adding # would look tidy when viewing the .tid files directly.

Comments welcome.

Thanks!
Shash

[tw] Re: Problem with transcludeing hideWhen-template

Hi, I have a template-tiddler Test01 with the following code:

 {{x{ showWhen tiddler.tags.contains(warm)hot, hot, hot}}}

It works in that it shows the text hot, hot, hot when I tag Test01
with the tag warm. But when I transclude it into TestTiddler it shows
the the tag from Test01. How do I do to get it reflect the tags from
 Test01?

I'm a bit confused by your question... do you want the showWhen to use
the tags from Test01 (the transcluded 'source' tiddler) or TestTiddler (the
containing tiddler). Also, could you provide a link to your TW document
(or TiddlySpace) that is using showWhen, so I can debug in-situ and
directly see what's actually occurring when the macro is processed.

enjoy,

[tw] Re: Announcing TiddlyWiki 5.0.15-beta

2014-08-21 Thread Alberto Molina
Hi Ton

My Javascript skills are non-existent. A long time ago I did some
programming in Basic and lateron Turbo Pascal but I never learned
 Javascript.

idem :)

A plugin is nothing more than a set of tiddlers packaged as a plugin.
I do it in a standalone TW according to 'How to create plugins in the
browser' (search for it at http://tiddlywiki.com/).

You can also have a look at [1] and [2], the guides where I describe my 2
 plugins.

Thanks! I'm going to try.

Cheers,

Alberto

[tw] My wiki is not working after save

2014-08-21 Thread anna
Hi,

I am new to TiddlerWiki. Downloaded it several days ago and loved it. I
added a LOT of new content today but looks like I somehow messed it up and
lost it all.

Everything looked really nice all day and worked perfectly well! I saved
the wiki. When I re-open it, I am getting a completely blank browser
screen. When I look atthe source for the html and scroll down, source code
first looks fine but then changes to all symbols inside one of my tiddlers
(see below). Symbols keep going all the way down until the end of the file.

I will REALLY REALLY appreciate any help / tips on how to fix this and
download my content - it's been 12 hours of work!
