[tw] Re: TW5: opening local pdf files from TW in Firefox on Android

2016-05-09 Thread Mark
So the short answer is that Firefox for Android can't do what I'm asking it
to do.

A kludgy workaround: write the code so that it displays the text "Open
PDF". Knowing that it's a .pdf, I can hold the link to bring up the "right
click" menu. The last choice is "Open With an App" -- this brings up the
various PDF viewers. Not elegant, but it works.

Hi Mark,

You are asked to download the pdf file, because you miss a pdf Viewer
plugin for Firefox on Android.

[tw] Re: TW5: How to use CreateTiddlersFromCSV

2016-05-09 Thread LG
Hello, Mark!

I can confirm that this works. The first attempt failed. But I realized the
issue was that I forgot to reload after importing then saving. Then it
worked smoothly.

I'm going to stress test it a bit more to see what else I can do.

Thank you!

Actually, why not invoke the preview type dropdown from the preview button
itself? Just add "none" to the list of choices.

The open eye icon could remain the same for any preview type except "none".

this doesn't break on updates. your content will always win. to undo your

[tw] Re: [tw5] Text-Slicer Plugin

2016-05-09 Thread LG
Dear Jeremy,

Here's a completely random bit of text I just generated which matches the
format of my real document. It has the headers + plain paragraphs with line
breaks in-between. This was created in Sublime text editor. I then pasted
it and split it. As expected, each paragraph was its own tiddler.

Btw, I must say I'm overwhelmed and impressed by the community. I posted
some questions in a few places online regarding other plugins. Everyone
answered within 24 hours. It just blew me away. I'm used to the less
friendly communities of major CMS software apps...

Best,

[tw] TW5: opening local pdf files from TW in Firefox on Android

2016-05-09 Thread Mark
Apologies if this has been discusses previously; my attempts at search
proved futile.

Running TW5 on Ubuntu/Firefox. TW resides in its own directory; images,
documents, pdf files, audio, etc., are kept in subdirectories and
externally linked.

I can copy the TW directory to my Android tablet (also running Firefox with
TFox extention). Everything works well *except* trying to open a PDF file
from a link in a tiddler from Firefox on Adroid. "Unable to download file"
is the consistent error message.

Is there a workaround?

The dropdown button adjacent to the preview button only appears when additional
preview are loaded (eg, via the “Internals” plugin that is present in the
prerelease). The trouble with floating the dropdown at the top of the preview
itself is that it will disturb the layout of the preview.

2016-05-09 Thread Alex Hough
Hello TW,

I am finding myself working in edit mode and clicking on links on the
preview pane. I am inspired by the discussion of live coding in Hangout 100

it would be quicker for me if clicking on a missing tiddler crated a new
draft with the title of that tiddler

or put another way, a missing link is parsed as a button which when pressed
creates a new tiddler with the title of the link.

* it would be nice if the curser ended up in the body rather than in the
title.

This idea kind of breaks through a convention. WikiText could create a
button

*Edit Mode?*

There could be an edit mode where a link clicked on in preview always opens
a draft

With tiddlers opening above the present, a pleasing zig zag workflow could
develop, see below

Re: [tw] Re: Announcing TWWFI, a file for TiddlyWiki and Workflowy integration

2016-05-09 Thread David Gifford
Hi Mat

Yes, there is a lot of jumping back and forth, but that is in part because
in the video I am not only showing how to start a topic and link both TW
and WF, but also then how fast it is to retrieve the note once it is saved,
and open it back up in WF.

I should say that I also just discovered Dynalist. (https://dynalist.io/).
It is like Workflowy, but with a number of added features: Rather than have
one big outliner document, you create any number of documents, each with
its bulleted outlines. And there is a pretty good mechanism for searching
for documents. Using that would undercut the need for a system like TWWFI.
Rather than use TW as a front end for WF, I could just use Dynalist.
Dynalist also allows for inline images and pretty links, which WF does not.
And using WF almost requires a pro account for $50 a year, whereas Dynalist
allows you unlimited documents, unlimited bullet points, and most of the
best features even in its free version.

This leaves me ambivalent about what to pursue of the two options...

David, thanks for so generously sharing your ideas and creations!

While I've admittedly not tried out workflowy or TWWFI, I'm thinking
there's quite a lot of jumping back and forth at least in the video. Maybe
this could be smoother by having the workflowy document display...

* in an iframe (because workflowy is web based, if I understand)...

Just a thought.

On the latest hangout there was brief mention of the problem with the
Preview icon (the closed eye).

If it hasn't yet been solved, an idea is to simply add 4-5 eye-lashes and
it is clear it's a closed eye.

While at it, the little baby button next to it could be a full button but
positioned inside the preview pane, perhaps floating top+right there. It
doesn't contribute anything (but clutter) without the preview pane open
anyway.

Excising to a macro call is designed to be used with your own custom macros.
The default “translink" macro that is provided is intended to demonstrate how
to use the feature; it’s not particularly useful in it’s own right.

Do you mean the <$transclude> widget? By default, it wikifies the target text,
and so does indeed include images and formatting.

What do you mean by “changing the macro to use curly brackets”?

Can you perhaps show some specific examples that do not behave as you expect?

If it's not too late to make a suggestion.

Currently you can set the height of the edit side of the screen, and turn
it into a scrollable area. Great!

Unfortunately, you can not scroll the preview side of the screen. This
means that the preview and edit areas can be far apart, and impossible to
line up. This means you end up going back and forth while editing. If you
could scroll the preview side like you can the edit side, then editing
would be much easier.

Thanks!

Re: [tw] [tw5] Final tests for 5.1.12 before release

2016-05-09 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Andrew

There were two reasons I dropped the undo/redo buttons, one superficial, and
one more fundamental:

* The endless problems I encountered getting the execCommand() call to work
consistently across browsers. This is a notorious area for poor cross-browser
compatibility, and there is every indication that it’s impossible to make the
native execCommand(“undo”) work with textareas under Firefox.
* The deeper problem that the OS undo/redo only extends back to the last time
that the textarea was refreshed. To an end user, the result is highly
confusing: one can only undo back to an arbitrary and unpredictable point

So, my conclusion was that decent undo/redo handling will require us to
engineer the undo/redo logic ourselves.

Best wishes

Jeremy

[tw] Re: [tw5] Text-Slicer Plugin

2016-05-09 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi LG

Interesting, can you share an excerpt of some of your text?

It sounds like you’d benefit from finer control over the tiddlerisation;
perhaps making a tiddler for heading, rather than for each paragraph.

Best wishes

Jeremy

[tw] Re: Reduce size of the "recent" list

2016-05-09 Thread Daniel
Thanks for the help!

I changed the limit in

$:/core/macros/timeline
so I'm happy for now, though a configurable parameter (not breaking at
updates) would be great in the future.

Thanks, again!

/Daniel

[tw] Re: Some Plugins for the new Editor Toolbar

2016-05-09 Thread TiddlyWiker
Many thanks to Stephen Kimmel for all the plugins!

prog...@assays.tv

I have also found in addition to control-z for undo,control-y for redo.
Both work fine in the firefox browser and google chrome for me using a
computer. I don't have the possibility of testing it with a mobile.

Regards,

TiddlyWiker
