[tw] Re: How to? Button in editor for automatic inserting picture with special attributes

2018-01-03 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
The built-in ones are part of core plugins. Use the advanced search under
shadows to look for $:/tags/TextEditor/Snippet . Open each tiddler you
don't want to show and delete it's tag ($:/tags/TextEditor/Snippet). If you
ever want them back, you can look for $:/language/Snippets under the system
tab. Find the one's you want to restore and (ironically) delete them. When
you delete them, the shadow versions come back into play.

[tw] Re: Import Twine into Tiddlywiki

2018-01-03 Thread Evan Balster
Hey, Jesse —

There's an upgrade path from Classic to TW5, but I suspect Twine customizes
the wiki in ways that wouldn't survive the upgrade. If you want to
datamine the Twine game, the upgrade might still be helpful, but if you
want to display it in the other wiki, you're probably best off using an
iframe or something.

Who's this games company building a knowledgebase in TiddlyWiki? :D

So what are you trying to do?

Get a new empty tiddlywiki and experiment.

Have you tried to import a twine file into tiddlywiki, or even simply
open it in an editor and cut and paste into a tiddler?, try to drag and
drop a file into tiddlywiki and see what happens.

I suspect hidden in your question is the desire by you to write in a
twine format your own stories and this may be achieved in tiddlywiki, but
then you are effectively proposing other markdown or markup language.
 There

Searching the forum for twine gave a number of hits such as

Perhaps someone in the community has already explored twine files so

You probably already know about the stamp tool on the editor bar that can

Okay,

I tested them all- they all don't work for me :-(

Most of my tiddlers in all my wikis are very small. But some are longer and
cannot be broken down into pieces (small stories, how-to's).

But okay, I don't die, if a sticky editor toolbar isn't possible for my
few occasions. it just would have been nice to have.

The nr number contains the prefix, right? But you want to sort by the
suffix?

So add a field that also contains the suffix (perhaps sfx).

You don't have to change the title. You can then sort by the sfx field and
display it but link to the title field.

The list code might look like:

<$list filter="[has[sfx]sort[sfx]]">
<$link><$view field=sfx/>

[tw] Re: [TW5] "Muuri-Touch" plugin

2018-01-03 Thread BurningTreeC
Hello community!

I've put an updated version online (v0.0.10)

it's focus is pinch-zoom on tiddlers to set different widths. If you like
testing, please do so, I'd be thankful if you give me a short report if you
find errors or strange behaviour

The tiddlers now should preserve their widths you set when zooming, also
after dragging and after reloading the wiki (if you have a testing wiki
with the plugin)

I don't know if I should make a small indicator ( a dot or so.. ) on
tiddlers that have fixed widths that's clickable to remove the fixed width

cheers, BurningTreeC

Hey, Jesse —

Make sure you're using TiddlyWiki Classic. As far as I understand, TWINE

Are you 100% sure that there is no possibility for sorting after
removeprefix?
I can remove the numbers from the title, but undoing them will be very
difficult.
I have already a field "nr" with the numbers.

Is there another field beside the title field which is (or can be make)
searchable with the standard search?

There is no "sort from position N" filter. Perhaps you could make a Pull
Request for one.

It's possible that someone has made a 3rd party tool for this.

Use separate fields for the parts of the title and your problems will
disappear.

You can't watch TV on your 2018 multi-cooker, nor send a message to the ISS
via paper airplane. All technology has limits of some sort.

[tw] Re: How to make the editor-toolbar always be visible with long tiddlers but with preview simultaneously scrolling?

2018-01-03 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
I think this thread (which you have already seen) has the best selection of
possibilities:

  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/tiddlywiki/xO-lhnwYyZs

There is also this discussion on making the toolbar sticky:

  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/tiddlywiki/QcKMCNWeRpY/m5sPjM2TAwAJ

In general, tiddlers are supposed to be small enough that this is never a
problem. So a possibility is to break your text into editiable chunks that
get viewed by a separate tiddler.

All the sorting occurs in the outer loop. But there's no mechanism to sort
by a portion of the title.

Putting multiple pieces of information into a single field (the title)
causes headaches.

This is why I suggested creating a field to sort by in each tiddler.

Re: [tw] Tiddly Extension for Firefox 57?

2018-01-03 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Tony

> Really? You don’t see any material improvements between TWC and TW5?

Sorry if my comment was in turn a little harsh; my perspective is a little
different...

I love TWC, and I love that the design of the core is just the minimal dom
mangling necessary to provide the desired user experience for navigation.
That's pretty much all there is, and any non-trivial
extensions/customisations generally require using plugins. But it's a
wildly successful design, particularly because it's been easy for other
developers to understand. The wonder of TWC is its longevity and utility.

TW5, in contrast, is an attempt to create a general purpose "rendering
engine" that spans narrative prose and user interface declarations,
allowing the entire user interface to be customised as easily as writing
wikitext. The evidence for its success is in the number of requests here on
the group that we can answer without recourse to plugins. There's no doubt
that the TW5 core is a richer set of primitives than TWC. The wonder of TW5
is that it is a practical solution, as well as an internally satisfying one.

No doubt there are an infinite number of ways to implement something like
TiddlyWiki, but TWC and TW5 seem to me to embody two particularly
interesting "local maxima": interconnected of trade-offs between competing
design approaches.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Basically we traded size for convenience and configurability.

With TWclassic, you have 5 main tiddlers, that define the whole UI.
PageTemplate, ViewTemplate, EditTemplate and 2 bigger StyleSheet tiddlers.

Whenever you want to change something there, you'll need to overwrite the
core tiddlers.
 - This makes updating much more complicated, than today.
 - If you make a small mistake, you'll completely mess up your UI, to a
degree, where it is unusable.

TW5 has configuration parameters, for most of the changes, that where
common in TWc. eg: most button visibilities are configurable now.
ControlPanel alone has ~30 pages.

emptyTW5.html has:

 - 227 config tiddlers, that are active by default.
 - 10+ ViewTemplate related tiddlers
 - 12+ EditTemplate related tiddlers
 - 9+ PageTemplate related tiddlers
 - 1000+ $:/language/ related tiddlers. Those where hardcoded in TWc and
made translations hard and error prone

So it's basically convenience UI based functions, which increase empty.html
size.

IMO we could squeeze out about 50% of the size, without loosing end-user
conveninece but *at the cost of maintainability*. This gives us ~ 1MByte.
... The win, will be lost, when a user includes the 1st jpg-image, to
customize the TW background.

So in the end we just lost maintainablility ... and IMO that's not worth it!

---

jQuery was initially needed, to level out browser incompatibilities. It's
success showed all browser vendors, what's really important for developers,
and how and where to focus on "web" / browser improvements. ...
Implementing the new specification and development patterns needed time.
But now most of the stuff, that jQuery invented, is part of current web
standards, which makes jQuery itself "kind of" obsolete. ...

have fun!
