[tw5] Re: [TW5] Updates to the MultiUser plugin and the Single Executable version

2018-05-12 Thread Ed
Dear Jed,

Thank you very much for the extensive explanation. That I didn''t see that.
Dumb.
Teaches me not to work at night, not to long anyway. 8-)) Anyway everything
is now A-OK

This begs some questions.
1. If you are going to add to the defaults more mime types as you told
TiddlyTweeter, will it
then in the future be neccessary to edit the $:/WikiSettings/split/mimeMap
oneself? Nooo,
I am not lazy! 8-))

2. In the manual setting there is also this
} ,
"suppressBrowser"*: ""*, Here are the colon + clickable quotation marks. I
did not do that of course.
But that is not a problem?

3. BTW From my 32bit PC the wiki open rapidly on the Macbook of my wife and
we can make
new tiddlers there. Immediatly they appear on my PC. Fine. I also connected
my very old Mac
(Powerprocessor, G4) and after a bit wheezing and couging, lo behold on
TenFourFox there was
my wiki. Slightly difficult to use as the fonts are a bit different, so to
point the pointer at the
right spot was a bit awkward, but nevertheless. Great!! Masterful work Jed!

4. Last question. *How many people could edit the wiki at the same time
without killing it?*
Suppose thet would have to add a new tiddler. Have you any idea? Any
whatsoever?
You see after the 22th of this month I have to do a presentation, and it
would be very interesting,
not to use PowerPointor Keynote, but your wiki. I could after the talk or
during it invite our
guests to make a new tiddler with their comments and ideas. In the room
there will be about
36 people. That would be far to much I suppose, but what are your educated
guesses about this.
Much obliged, Jed.

Keep up the excellent work!
Salut, Ed
(PS
I''ll write you an email about Robbie tomorrow)

Re: [tw5] Re: TiddlyPie in the sky?

2018-05-12 Thread Mat
http://backend.tiddlyspot.com

I've worked a bit more on it (and I noted it was saved in a very messy
state last time). Still note it is not really official yet.

The actual work is mostly for myself to make it easy to fill in data (e.g
hover to access field editors). I'll probably make it appear static from an
end users point of view.

Still, the main work is to identify what criteria are there and which
"back-ends" should be listed. Please come with input about what makes sense
and what doesn't.

Re: [tw5] Re: TiddlyPie in the sky?

2018-05-12 Thread Mat
Arlen, thank you for your illustration. - but I'm afraid I don't quite
understand: Your illustration seems to be for the one filling out the
matrix with the data (which I've assumed will have to be me). After this,
your suggested checkboxes would merely serve as a *static* display to
indicate which backend solutions that fulfill some criteria... in which
case it would probably be better with some image instead of checkboxes. Or
do I misunderstand you?

I'm thinking checkboxes might be useful as a means to select criteria from
a list (as opposed to a matrix) that lists the criteria. Checking them
could build up some filter that is used to list the backend solutions that
fulfill those criteria.

Please clarify. You come with valuable input.

Re: [tw5] Re: [TW5] Updates to the MultiUser plugin and the Single Executable version

2018-05-12 Thread Arlen Beiler
Just making sure you know you seriously don't need the single executable
version! That sounds like huge overkill for something like this. I use
TiddlyServer in Termux all the time, so the MultiUser plugin should work
the same. I guess it would make setup easier, but I would sooner plug in a
hardware keyboard than go through all that! It sounds like it would take
more resources :D But hey, each to his own. Just my two cents.

[tw5] [TW5] Modified field display

2018-05-12 Thread michaelharrison619
I am trying to set up a list of tiddlers with the "Modified" field
displayed. While I have managed to get that far, I am hoping it is possible
to tweak the display slightly.

So instead of displaying something like:

20180512141759481

It would display:

2018-05-12

Or something similar.

I suspect this is actually really simple, but for the life of me I have not
been able to figure it out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Morgaine & TonyM

Gaming, and especially RPG campaign plans I keep an eye out for. I do this
because I think there is a significant use base growing for that in TW,
here and and on Twitter, that will increase and get better if they can see
examples. I also think gamers use TW, from campaign TW I have seen, very
creatively. So they are good for anyone to see as example usage of TW.

Part of the current problem is it would be best to archive them so you
don't lose them. But, I think to do that, better needs thinking through. I
am sure folk will be happy to be archived IF the archive also offers some
kind of resources back.

Early days. But I thought I'd mention it.

2018-05-12 Thread Arlen Beiler
I guess we could do something like this:

It looks like the checked boxes don't carry through when I send it like
this, but you get the idea.

TiddlyWiki TiddlyServer
 Basic save enabled servers
 MultiUser Plugin

Serve single files
Update single files*
Serve other files
Upload new files
Serve a single data folder
Serve multiple data folders
Update data folders
Create new datafolders
Uses the server command**
Supports multiple users

* If "Serve other files" is also supported, it is likely that all existing
files may be updated, not just wikis.** NodeJS only: Loads the server
command code (node tiddlywiki.js --server) and uses it to handle requests.
Some load the code in the same process (less memory) and some load it as a
separate node process (better performance).

2018-05-12 Thread Jed Carty
Look at the handler inside the button widget for an example.

https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/blob/master/core/modules/widgets/button.js

or you can look at the invokeActions and invokeActionString in widget.js
starting on line 513

https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/blob/master/core/modules/widgets/widget.js

you can take those examples and use them as the handler functions.

[tw5] Re: How to click on a D3 (svg) object to open a tiddler ?

2018-05-12 Thread Silverfox
I'm still looking at a solution to make it work... but I'm stuck for many
days with it

There are actually 2 different actions systems I don't know how to connect.

D3 has it own event detector with instruction like this one:

> .on("dblclick",function(d){ cliclic(d.data.name); });

and TiddlyWiki also with instruction like this

> this.dispatchEvent({
> type: "tm-navigate",
> navigateTo: targetTiddler });

In this last case it actually needs to be triggered by a button widget or
something similar.
I was thinking about a way to activate a virtual click of the button to
open the corresponding tiddler, but I have no idea how to proceed...
Maybe there some other better way to proceed...

In this example http://archipel.tiddlyspot.com double clicking on any
bubble opens an alert with the name of the clicked bubble, but I would like
to open a tiddler instead

Any help will be highly appreciated

[tw5] [TW5] Announcing Bob version 1.0.0 Sourdough (formerly MultiUser)

2018-05-12 Thread Jed Carty
Bob version 1.0.0 is now available.

It is the renamed version of the MultiUser plugin. For people who aren't
familiar with the old MultiUser plugin the basic features are:

- Serve multiple wikis
- Two-way syncing of changes between the browser and file system
- Multiple people can use and edit served wikis simultaneously
- A static file server for images and other media (include files from the
local file system in the wiki)

Changes from the last version of the MultiUser plugin are:
- Changing the name
- Adding a message that lets you stop queued scripts in progress

Plugin repo: https://github.com/OokTech/TW5-Bob

Single executable version:
https://github.com/OokTech/TW5-SingleExecutable/releases/tag/1.0.0

Let me know if you find bugs.

Updating to Bob from MultiUser will take a few changes.

single executable version

If you are using the single executable version then you will need to edit
the tiddlywiki.info file in the IndexWiki folder. There is a line (probably
line 4) that reads
"OokTech/MultiUser"
change that line to
"OokTech/Bob"

plugin version

If you are using the plugin version, in addition to changing the
tiddlywiki.info file for your root wiki, you will need to either: 1) change
the remote url of the plugin repo or 2) just delete the old plugin and
clone Bob again.

Other than that, everything should be compatible.

If you want to support the development OokTech has a patreon page here

[tw5] Re: TW Twitter -- Computational Notebooks in TW? ...

2018-05-12 Thread Evan Balster
Hello, all —

Regarding what I mean by "computational notebooks" and why I took the time
to write a robust math plugin:

I think it's really valuable to be able to interactively model information
as part of a note-taking and problem-solving process. TiddlyWiki was
already very good at doing this for qualitative information, so I made
effort to round out those capabilities for quantitative information. My
plugin is "spreadsheet-like" because information auto-refreshes like
anything else in a TiddlyWiki. I never actually implemented a spreadsheet
UI for it. Why would I? — tiddlers and fields already work like rows and
columns.

I'm a C++ programmer (8 years full-time experience including compiler
design, DSP, rendering engines, multithreading), but I don't think
imperative languages like C++ or Python are ideal for what I call
"computational notetaking". This is because it takes substantial mental
effort to design the execution flow, state management and data structures
in an imperative language, and this means breaking away from the topic of
the notetaking. People who use spreadsheets don't think of themselves as
programmers because they don't have to do that kind of juggling, but it's
possible to design extremely complicated software in that environment. The
key difference is that you can focus on one small element at a time without
getting tangled up in the architecture of your program. Less cognitive
load there means more sustained attention toward understanding a problem
which may already be straining one's cognitive faculties — and as somebody
who gets into that situation often with my research, I think that has the
potential to expand my capability to think and solve complex problems.

As much as I've discussed improving TiddlyWiki's scalability, I don't think
computational notetaking tools must be useful for designing applications or
scalable software. "Notebook" implies to me that the contents might exist
for the sole benefit of the person using it, and that the information is
easy to pass around.

(For more on the "interactive modeling" I'm talking about, look into explorable
explanations . I've designed many interactive models
for my own use with imperative languages, and have prototyped some
explorables

with my plugin.)

That sounds a lot like TW. TW would need a math plugin to easily get to the
"computational" part. Possibly a platform for students or fieldworkers

Re: [tw5] TW Twitter -- Computational Notebooks in TW? ...

2018-05-12 Thread 'Andreas Hahn' via TiddlyWiki

Well,
In my opinion TW is ill-suited as a computational notebook and the
already established solution in the Form of Jupyter is more than up to
the task. The only think I can see happen is TW having an interface to
the Jupyter Kernels, but even then, it doesn't quite fit TW's model.

The main problems seem to be:

- TW has a monolithic design, whereas for a computational notebook, the
Jupyter kernel <-> Interface divide serves it very well as you can
detach computation from the code/notes and therefore scale things much
better and work with different languages. For TW all I could think of
here would be WebWorkers.

- TW has a limit on data size. Nowadays, most datasets, no matter how
small are already larger than what TW might be able to handle, so they
would have to be in an external file/files either way.

So while I can see it being nice to have TW as an interface where your
results get stored and commands are issued, I don't quite see it play
out any of its advantages in this field and think TW's architecture puts
both hurdles and limitations on what you would be able to do.

/Andreas

[tw5] Re: Announcing the release of TiddlyWiki v5.1.17

2018-05-12 Thread Lost Admin
Has anyone upgraded to 5.1.17 on TiddlySpot?

My personally hosted TiddlyWikis are on WebDAV and they worked like a charm
but http://thelostadmin.tiddlyspot.com/ is not saving back to Tiddlyspot.
It could just be very slow as we are all trying to send updates there.

I couldn't find clear instructions on how to upgrade to TiddlySpot. So, I
do it this way:

1) load my TiddlySpot (http://thelostadmin.tiddlyspot.com) into my browser,
save to local disk (i.e. my downloads folder)
2) open http://www.tiddlywiki.com/upgrade.html and drag/drop the file from
the downloads folder.
3) press the save button on the freshly upgraded tiddlywiki
4) load the file I just saved from the downloads folder, and make sure it
is the new version
5) enter the tiddlyspot credentials into the save config and press the
checkmark-in-a-circle to save.

It's been about 15 minutes and no saved notification or any error messages
in TiddlyWiki.

What did I do wrong?

Re: [tw5] Re: [TW5] Updates to the MultiUser plugin and the Single Executable version

2018-05-12 Thread Xavier Cazin
Hi Jed,

For the record, although the armv7 executable doesn't work directly on
Termux (on my Android 6.01 Fairphone), it does work like a charm on a Linux
subsystem (Debian Stretch in my case).

Android device owners out there, if you are somewhat familiar with Linux,
here are the main steps:

   1. Install the Termux app on your Android device
   2. Get the https://github.com/sp4rkie/debian-on-termux script and tweak
it if you want (I only changed the localtime)
   3. Follow the Readme instructions in order to execute the script from a
directory that resides on your main sdcard (otherwise it can't be executed)
   4. Wait about 30 minutes until the Debian installation completes
   5. Execute the *enter_deb* script
   6. *apt install xdg-utils elinks* # seems a bit overkill as the only
reason is to allow Bob to open its console...
   7. exit Linux and re-execute *enter_deb* with the *-n* option in order
to log in as the normal Termux user
   8. download tiddlyArmv7 from here
   https://github.com/OokTech/TW5-SingleExecutable/releases/ and execute \o/

The next executions only require to first enter the Linux system from
Termux using* enter_deb -n*.
This is not exactly the snap aimed by these executables, and I guess that
those who don't fear this procedure won't be afraid to install the normal
MultiUser plugin on Termux instead. But I'm sure there are some advantages
of using Bob that way, if only because it launches quicker than with the
usual node tiddlywiki command.

Cheers,
Xavier.

[tw5] Minimal Ruby Server

2018-05-12 Thread Jim
I use Ruby and so always have it installed. If you do too, here's a minimal
server using Ruby Webrick. It just serves up files from the same folder and
handles saving.

Once running, just point yor web browser at localhost:8000 to view the
folder listing, and click on your wiki html file.

[tw5] Re: [TW5] Updates to the MultiUser plugin and the Single Executable version

2018-05-12 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Ciao Jed

Just an informational note on the "external file location" thing. I don't
need a reply.

One of the things that Bob The Enabler does is permit a user to re-wrap Bob
with wikis and settings and re-distribute it in packages.

I think that is a good possibility for distribution of sets of TW. But the
security angle you concerned about can easily go out the window in that
process.

IMO, it would be better to enable it (since it easy to do so) but, maybe,
FORCE warning flags*.

JUST a thought.

(FYI, in my large apartment the only people who can access my wikis over a
LAN are me and My Doubles, Fred & Ginger :).

Best wishes
Josiah

You'll need a node executable and the TW5

I'm using Windows. Here's a batch file example:

set node_exe="C:\Users\Jim\Downloads\node-v8.11.1-win-x64\node.exe"
set tw_js="C:\Users\Jim\Downloads\TiddlyWiki5-5.1.17\tiddlywiki.js"

2018-05-12 Thread TonyM
Post script,

Tiddlywiki will be everywhere including multi user however I plan to do this
through other mature website and microblogging platforms. This is because
tiddlywiki is not yet as scalable nore does it have a rich security and user
model.

I hope in time we may replace these other platforms with tiddlywiki, this
approach may even drive development of tiddlywiki.

[tw5] Re: TiddlyWiki Focused Solution Areas - Please contribute

2018-05-12 Thread TonyM
Yes, I intend to solve that problem,

To do so, I need to identify how to organise the information. Next I need to
find a way to make it easy to collect and publish the details. Now, although I
can do a lot of this because there are many resources, I cant do it all, and
maintaining it myself would be imposible, so I have a strategy to make it easy
for everyone to contribute because they always get more back than they give.

For the looping part, are you using the newest version? I updated the
release soon after uploading it the first time based on feedback from
Xavier that fixed that everywhere I could find.

The error message is because the shadow tiddler doesn't have a file and it
tries to open something that doesn't exist. It isn't a problem and I can
disable the error.

Jed,

I don't know if this is new, but I started noticing odd behavior when
modifying $:/DefaultTiddlers, which is one of the first things I do for all
new wikis. It seems to send the node window into a loop.

For instance, changing (via Control Panel) the DefaultTiddlers from
[[Hello!]] to [[Home]] by typing over, results in *93* blocks that look
like this:

Rename Tiddler undefined to $__DefaultTiddlers
saved file C:\Users\stobbea\Documents\TiddlyWiki\Wikis\test1\tiddlers\

[tw5] Re: [TW5] Updates to the MultiUser plugin and the Single Executable version

2018-05-12 Thread Jed Carty
@TiddlyTweeter,

For the mime types the only reason I used the list I did is that those were
the types that I remembered. I will look online and add video types and any
others that people suggest to the defaults.

As for setting the default file serving location I am still waffling about
that. The problem isn't that I don't want people to be able to do it, the
problem is that it needs to be their decision to do it. If I have the
default path set up and a button that says 'click here to serve files' than
I don't think that most people will just click the button and not think
about it because it is convenient, and the same people who do that are
likely to also set it to serve on 0.0.0.0 all the time because that is
convenient. So if you have someone who does that and they just leave
everything in their downloads folder than anything they download is
available to anyone on the local network. Most of the time that isn't a
huge problem, but when it is a problem than you have someone losing things
like tax documents and banking passwords.

I may not be the most responsible person in the world but I am not so
irresponsible that I am willing to intentionally put someone in that
position.

There is probably a better way to set things up than what I have made, but
I don't want to put default values in places where it could cause that sort
of problem.

[tw5] Re: [TW5] Updates to the MultiUser plugin and the Single Executable version

2018-05-12 Thread Jed Carty
Ed,

I think I see what happened. In an ideal world what you did should work I
haven't made it work that way yet.

When you click on the + button to add a new property there are two fields,
one for the name and one for the value. It looks like you copied the full
line into the name field. What you need to do is put the name part in the
name field and the value in the other field. The name field is the shorter
text box that you copied things into, the value field is the long text box
below it.

So for each mime-type you put the file extension with the . as the name,
like
.mp4
and then in the other text box you put the mime-type like this
video/mp4

unfortunately adding these from the interface in the wiki means you have to
do all of them individually.

To avoid having to do that you can instead edit the tiddler
$:/WikiSettings/split/mimeMap which was created when you made the mimeMap
object in the settings (so if you do this again in the future it won't
exist until you create that object in the settings interface) and edit that
tiddler so this is its text (replace text that is currently in the tiddler
but don't touch any other fields):

{
 ".ico": "image/x-icon",

".html": "text/html",
".js": "text/javascript",
".json": "application/json",
".css": "text/css",
".png": "image/png",
".jpg": "image/jpeg",
".jpeg": "image/jpeg",
".wav": "audio/wav",
".mp3": "audio/mpeg",
".svg": "image/svg+xml",
".pdf": "application/pdf",
".doc": "application/msword",
".gif": "image/gif",

".mp4": "video/mp4",

".mov": "video/quicktime"

}

I wasn't expecting something like this to be edited. I need to come up with
a better interface that makes some sense to people who don't have
experience with it. Let me know if it works.

[tw5] Re: [TW5] Updates to the MultiUser plugin and the Single Executable version

2018-05-12 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Ciao Jed

Suggestions:

(1) - Support usable mime types by default?

(2) - Include initial path for external files (relative to startup) that
can be edited.

I think it would simplify getting started. Now least because seeing them in
situ in settings helps understand them.

But would there be reasons not to?

Just thoughts

Hi Jed & Other TW5ians,

Of cours I followed your advice and went to Node Settings, cous the other

With some trial error I found out how to add "mimeMap". Some confusion

eventually I got it right.

But however muuch I tried completeing mimeMap gave me different results. In
theConfiguration.md I see
that the fields look like this, e.g.

".ico": "image/x-icon",
".html": "text/html",
".js": "text/javascript",
".json": "application/json",
".css": "text/css",
".png": "image/png",
".jpg": "image/jpeg",
".jpeg": "image/jpeg",
".wav": "audio/wav",
".mp3": "audio/mpeg",
".svg": "image/svg+xml",
".pdf": "application/pdf",
".doc": "application/msword",
".gif": "image/gif"

They all end with the closing quotaion mark and a comma.

In my case I get this ending with als extension types:
e.g. " .mp4": "video/mp4": "",
So after the closing quotation mark, there is a colon and
complete quotation marks and the the comma.
Moreover these quotation marks ar clickable.

Now when I look at
"suppressBrowser": "", I see the same, but still it not what
I thought that would be right. I was aiming for an exact copy
of the example in Configuration.md.

Can anybody please explain in simple English, as I am totally
a non-Wizard, what it all means.

This is how my Node Setting/Manual Settings looks now

Again thanks a lot to everybody helping out here!

[tw5] Re: TiddlyWiki Focused Solution Areas - Please contribute

2018-05-12 Thread Mohammad
Tony!
A multi-user TW is required to be accessible somewhere to let all
interested people contribute!
The problem is, we have a lot of stranded resources on TW. We need one
place to collect all of them
with the categories like you proposed. From the answers to this post, I
learned it is difficult to find
what people already done and what we have for TW around.
