All I would add is don't limit them at all. Remember it is the number of
tiddlers changed, not the number of changes to tiddlers, Perhaps we could
invent a plugin to suggest a save and reload with a popup if the haschanged
returned a 100 changed tiddlers?.

[tw5] List unknown number of items in a Table - Known number of columns - Unknown number of rows

2019-01-28 Thread S. S.

I want a compact neat way to present the full listing of images on
tiddlywiki.com whose tiddlers are both tagged *$:/tags/Image* and titles
prefixed by *$:/core/images/*

There might be better ways of doing it than the way I am trying, so any
other suggestions would be great!

On the tiddlywiki.com website, the following code:

   -makes a Table
-in the first row, lists in separate cells:
  - the first 6 images for tiddlers tagged $:/tags/Image
  - puts the suffix of the tiddler title below each image

<$set name="limit" value="6">

<$list filter="[all[shadows]tag[$:/tags/Image]limit]">

<$set name="image" value=<>>
<$list filter="[removeprefix[$:/core/images/]]">

<$transclude tiddler=<>/> <>

There are an unknown number of images. In this case it is 104 images.
<$count filter="[all[shadows]tag[$:/tags/Image]]"/>

Major Issue: I want to list all of them using multiple rows. In this case,
about 18 rows.
Minor issue: I want to get rid of that first empty column.

I would appreciate some help.

Thanks.

This Stackexchange post actually addresses the issue, dropbox aside:

So the bottom line seems to be:

1. For a single file _local_ Tiddlywiki --> use relative paths
2. For Node.js version --> copy into tiddlers folder, restart server,
transclude
3. Use a macro plugin as described in this very group:

Hi,

Are you sharing your images from Dropbox, did you check out sharing from
Dropbox? https://tiddlywiki.com/#Sharing%20a%20TiddlyWiki%20on%20Dropbox

I only have a free account and since they stopped allowing TiddlyWiki
hosted there I don't know if it is any different for paid accounts. Long
time ago worked out a way of sharing on Dropbox. Can't seem to get a new TW
on Tiddlyspot so I'll just attach three tids from a demo I did.
Download and drag into a TiddlyWiki to see examples.

Hope that helps,
Greg

A query on this same topic : the explanation on tiddlywiki.com of the
*haschanged* operator is:

*purpose*filter the input by tiddler modification status

If you manually save your TiddlyWiki, I believe this may be a reset to the
state of a new session? If that is correct, perhaps we can mention it in
the documentation.

[tw5] [HELP] inserting images

2019-01-28 Thread stefano franchi
Just started with Tiddlywiki and I am wondering what I am doing wrong when
I try to insert pictures into a tiddler, as the methods listed in the
help site don't seem to work:

1. Clicking on the image icon in the WikiText editor pops up a small window
with a check box for "Insert system tiddlers" and the UK flag (?).

2. Using the [img [name_of_file_In_same_dir.png]] syntax produces only the
broken image icon

3. Importing the image with drag and drop has no effect

My Tiddlywiki file is hosted on Dropbox and accessed through the twcloud
method.

Re: [tw5] Re: [New Plugin] Plugin Size: Compare the Weight of Plugins

2019-01-28 Thread Thomas Elmiger
Tony,

The info including plugin sizes from my tiddler $:/core/ui/InfoPanel/Plugins

does not show up in the tiddler info – but you are right: The title is
misleading and I should find another namespace and probably call this
*Explorer* instead of InfoPanel as you suggested on Github
.
I like the term explorer or maybe *WikiExplorer* ... thanks!

Cheers,

Suggestion: Consider removing from info, as it does not relate to the

[tw5] Current state of multi-user with access control

2019-01-28 Thread Greg Hodgins
Hi all. It's been a few years since I first discovered the incredible
TiddlyWiki and TiddlyMap combination. I find myself with a renewed
interest in trying to get this combination to do what I would like with
respect to IT network documentation - including among other things allowing
multiple users controlled access. I find myself confused with the current
state of affairs given all the apparent options. Native TW multi-user
discussions go way back to 2015 or even earlier.

Anyhow, the upshot of my question is what the relationship between 5.1.18
or 19 and Bob? Does native .18 or .19 offer multi-user access - or does
Bob use what TW has implemented? Are they complimentary or competitive
solutions? I seem to be seeing more information on setting up basic access
control with native TW than I can find with Bob.

I have Bob running in GCP fronted by a load balancer using https on the
front end and basic http on the backend. I am very close to securing
access with IAP (Identity Aware Proxy). It went pretty smoothly although I
am currently getting very frequent and annoying (problematic actually)
Warning : You are no longer connected messages. I can't find any Bob
documentation on establishing user access control.

Do either implementations offer some basic user definitions and access
control? I don't need fine grained authorization for authenticated users,
but it would be nice to think there would be a user ID associated with any
CRUD operations.

I think the other option for me might be Noteself, not configured for
"self". :-) I've historically had a Noteself instance up and running in
the cloud with the benefits of couchdb/pouchdb synchronization that works
quite well. I think Noteself has multi-user options too.

So, unless I am mistaken, hosting multi-user in the cloud could be done
with TW native/node, Bob/node, or potentially Noteself.

All the choices. :-) What's recommended?

All the best.

[tw5] How to use external (local) files, attachments on Windows?

2019-01-28 Thread bimlas
I like to use local (audio) files in Node Tiddly on Windows, but I cannot
let it work.

I made a directory (./mp3) in the wiki's main directory (where
tiddlywiki.info exists), copied the audio files to it.

- I tried to create a tiddler, set `_canonical_uri` (`./mp3/mysound.mp3`),
the player appeared but could not play the file.
- I followed the instructions of
https://tiddlywiki.com/#tiddlywiki.files%20Files -> "Importing a folder of
PDFs", but when I was looking for tiddlers (which is created by Tiddly
automatically, if I understand right), I couldn't find them.

Can someone help me to get local files (family photos, music, etc.) to
work? Can I automate the process of adding new files to the wiki (taking
new photos)?

[tw5] Re: Experimental mobile theme

2019-01-28 Thread Ton Gerner
Hi Tony,

Thanks for helping think of a solution.

The nice feature of themes is that there can only be one theme active at a
time.
So in principle styles of theme A cannot influence styles of theme B and
vice versa (I know you can base a theme on another theme by the
'dependents' field but that is not important for the discussion).
So for me it looks like bad practice to overwrite a stylesheet of my theme
by toggling the tag $:/tags/Stylesheet on/off (by a button of my theme!).
Rearranging styles by list-before/list-after or drag & drop is a workaround
like what I did with the overwritten Theme button which deletes the remnant
stylesheet.

The way to go is what is used in the Vanilla theme: an 'if-then' macro
which checks a state. This is used at several places in the Vanilla theme
(checking @media, sidebar, fluid-width, ...). As far as I can see I
overlooked something and I will start again with a minimal setup.

Cheers,

Ton

[tw5] Re: A 'theoretical' question about \import

2019-01-28 Thread TonyM
No worries

I do not expect it to have much impact because when you import variables they
are imported for that tiddler, but when you creat global macros every tiddler
"imports" the global macros at render time. I use hundreds of global macros
with no problems.

The only caviet is you could make a macro that had an encyclopedia in it, then
you may have a problem.

Hi Josiah,

Thanks for commenting.
I totally agree and started that way.
But the space for the 'original' search (search icon, search field, 3 icons
thereafter + text 'xy matches') was more than the CSS pixels of 360px in
portrait mode of an Android phone.
Lateron I omitted the text 'xy matches', decreased the icon size, so may be
now it is possible to set the search toggle button at the second place.
I will have a look.

Thanks,

[tw5] Re: A 'theoretical' question about \import

2019-01-28 Thread Hubert
Thanks for your input Tony. I should have made myself clearer and I
apologies if I didn't, English is not my first language.

My question was regarding the \import pragma
, similar to the
older* ImportVariables* widget, and not regarding the process of importing
tiddlers to wiki by drag and drop or copy and paste.

Specifically, I'm trying to find out what the impliactions would be to TW
performance/RAM (if any) in cases where I would import many variables/macro
definitions in this way as 'collateral damage' (=unneeded).

Again, apologies if my question is not clear.

Hubert

[tw5] A 'theoretical' question about \import

hubert,

You seem to be basicaly correct. After drop, if you do not import, the next
drop will add to or replace the prior tempoary json tiddler containing all the
payload tiddlers.

Import and cancel delete this tempoary payload tiddler. Which may supprise you
is $:/Import

I belive the tempoary payload is not saved back to disk when you hit save.

You can change the way the way the $:/Import tiddler is built on drop and can
add your own import tools.

Just found a "pre-solution":

* Open https://tiddlywiki.com/static/Audio.html
* Right click on the page -> Inspect element -> open Console tab
* Paste this code and press Enter:

var players = document.getElementsByTagName('audio');
for(var i=0; i < players.length; i++) {
  players[i].nextPlayer = players[i+1];
  players[i].addEventListener('ended', function() {
this.nextPlayer.play();
  });
}
// After the last song, jump to the first (repeat)
players[players.length-1].nextPlayer = players[0];

* Start the first audio
* When it ends, second is started

I'm sure I will do this as a plugin, or if Jeromlene is interested in it,
it will be a pull request.

[tw5] A 'theoretical' question about \import

2019-01-28 Thread Hubert
Hello,

I'm consolidating my frequently used macros and variables in a single
tiddler titled GlobalVariables so that I can easily import those
variables/macro definitions in other tiddlers as needed, using the \import
pragma.

My assumption is that when I open the importing tiddler, one of the
following two things will happen:

(1) the entire \import payload is loaded into RAM for as long as the
importing tiddler is open, therefore having a potentially negative impact
on TW/browser performance (though I suspect this decrease in performance
could be negligible)

(2) the \import payload merely becomes *available *to the importing tiddler
but will only occupy RAM if and when the content being imported is* re-used*
in any way in the importing tiddler (e.g. as a parameter of a macro defined
in the importing tiddler etc.)

Apologies if this is a stupid question but thanks for your thoughts
nevertheless.
NB. I don't have the necessary tools to test this myself.

Best regards,
Hubert

[tw5] Re: Quinoid

2019-01-28 Thread TonyM
Josiah,

Thanks for your clarification.

I do not want to labor my point, but if I may.

My point is with only html active I could open non tiddlywiki html but with txt
an .tw extensions I would only have the opportunity if such files exist, and to
most they are not tiddlywikis so they will never know. In fact I doubt anyone
would know about a .tw file unless they put it there themself, in which case
they will want it to work.

Let us pick an extension, any extension, but tw is perhaps the best.

With a nominated extension we can allow the app to be oppened by clicking in
the file, not only by opening it from the app. At least on desktops, i have
this working. I just want it to carry over to mobile. We cant do this with html
because the default browser needs to own html, perhaps even so quinoid can open
external links.

On mobiles we could download, and open from where it lands. No need searching
from inside the app.

To me this is an essential design feature, and appears fundimental as it aready
works on some platforms by accident.

Futher on great design ideas, i saw an online app that is secure but needs no
password. Just provide the user id and it sends you an email with the secure
link to logon, Especialy good for occasional login accounts.

Perhaps we can get this in tiddly wiki servers?

[tw5] Re: TiddlyWiki as a media player replacement

The issue is a Playlist. In theory it is should be possible to activate
media tiddlers sequentially (they would likely need to be primed for
auto-play). Quite how I don't know.

Rather than overwrite the shadow styleshhet, why not create your own, that

must use "after" field to ensure your stylesheet comes last. It is css
"cascade" after all?

Do i make sence?

[tw5] TiddlyWiki as a media player replacement

2019-01-28 Thread bimlas
I would like to use TiddlyWiki as a music player, so I could easily
categorize music in several ways: by artist, genre, album, etc. For
example, if my mood is "dark + blues + denver", I could easily find the
right tracks (16 Horsepower

for example) and I could use the storylist as the playlist in a regular
media player.

TiddlyWiki can play music from local directory...

https://tiddlywiki.com/static/Audio.html

...from SoundCloud (via RichLinks plugin
)...

http://richlinks.tiddlyspot.com/#Richlink%20to%20soundcloud

... or even from Spotify.

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Newcomers-and-Contribution/Community-Tips-How-to-embed-a-song-or-playlist/td-p/243060

This could be a very useful feature, but it lacks the ability to start the
next music after the current ends. Does anyone know of a solution
(Javascript event?) that will automatically jump to the next track in the
storylist?

All that work I did this weekend on vertical toc's, when Whitespace was
what I wanted! If only whitespace had been in the "Sidebar and control
panel modifications" section of my toolmap. I previously only had it under
themes. Well, I rectified that so it shows up in the sidebar section too.

Hi all

Thank you for your suggestions. I am looking for a solution that won't make
my life miserable when creating and editing content on my computer.

Based on Tony's comment I created a tiddler where I added fields to edit
the text of
$:/config/ViewToolbarButtons/Visibility/$:/core/ui/Buttons/close and
$:/config/ViewToolbarButtons/Visibility/$:/core/ui/Buttons/edit and made it
accessible in page controls. That way I can quickly hide them before
uploading them, and quickly unhide them after uploading.

As far as I grasp it the best very GOOD routes to HIDING are ...

Ton -- http://tongerner.tiddlyspot.com/#Read-only

   and

stef -- https://groups.google.com/d/msg/tiddlywiki/JeuinlhzMNU/pcQWJ9IFCQAJ (I
think there is a later website for it ... just can't find it)

The issue in both cases is you apply the "hiding" before upload. It is not
dynamically applied. They don't detect context. They don't know if they are
on-web or off-line.

In the longer term, especially with growth of Android usage, may be to use
Startup
Actions that draw on info from the
InfoMechanism and then dynamically
apply a "Read Only" HIDER.

"Hiders" can work by either / or / and: switching OFF bits of CSS or by
removing tags or whatever is needed.

(Sidenote: FWIW the terminology here is confusing. Its NOT really "Read
Only", simply you want to "Hide" bits of the interface. Its confusing
because the TW remains fully dynamic and anybody who has played with TW
will know how to subvert restrictions. "Read Only" should be limited IMO to
when there is no serious Javascript TW operating at all. Usually that means
"Static" sites. Here we just mean "Hiding Some Dynamics". AKA --> A Noble
Pursuit of Simplification For Readers <--)

HOW to do application of "Hider" dynamically on startup I'm not sure. But
the mechanisms are there and I'm sure someone with skill will get into it
yet.

Yours with CAPITAL notes :-)
Josiah, x
