[tw5] Re: Porting some nice palettes to tiddlywiki

2019-03-05 Thread HC Haase
Nice! there sure is some nice themes out there and some new makeup can make
some amazing differences in how modern TW look/ you perceive it.

There are many that I like, but for now my favourite palettes are from jd
http://j.d.palette.tiddlyspot.com/

* $:/jd/palette/SpartanNight/green
* $:/jd/palette/SpartanNight
* $:/jd/palette/Neonize

This is properly out of scope, but the toggle light and dark button is very
nice when you prefer a dark theme, but some things get hard to read
sometimes

2019-03-05 Thread Stephen Keen
Hi all, I have been using TW for a week and I'm excited by the potential use in
education. I work as an educational developer, supporting curriculum design.

I am interested in seeing examples of people using TW with students or to
design a course site.

I am happy to share my ideas and consider possible collaborations if anyone has
similar interests.

Thanks,

[tw5] Re: Saving TW classic in modern browsers

2019-03-05 Thread TonyM
Iain,

There are tools for migrating tiddlers from one to the other but those
including references to macros and plugins from TWC do not translate.

So Far I have kept my main TWC available through using TiddlyDesktop
installed on my laptop. I have then gradually replaced everything in TWC
with a TW5 solution and only visit for historical reasons.

You may be able to obtain an older and "Possibly vulnerable" Firefox ESR
version to run TWC on - look at a portable apps versions perhaps, I Think
the last was FireFox V 52 or so.

[tw5] Saving TW classic in modern browsers

2019-03-05 Thread iain
I have a number of TW classics files which are still good and working well
but I am upgrading my computer and was wondering how to save changes to
them as in current versions of FF and Chrome this doesn't seem possible.

I have tried the Timimi plugin but that doesn't seem to work - is it meant
to work for all TW's or only the modern TW.

What are the options for saving with modern browsers?

I am not sure how you would migrate a TW classic to the modern TW?

[tw5] Re: A TiddlyWiki for Dummies series ...

2019-03-05 Thread S. S.
Thanks Thomas & others.

I played with the idea of *Chapters*. It is a workable idea for an
independent TW but I felt it would get lost within the 1,500+ info tiddlers
on tiddlywiki.com

I'm a little stuck on naming the series (& thus each tiddler in the series).

All the tiddlers I have made

use the title format *. . . . . . for Beginners*
I feel very comfortble with this name.
After spending time thinking about WHO the tiddlers are being written for .
. .
I feel most of those attracted to, and using TiddlyWiki are basically not
"programming illiterates."
Thus I began to feel "Beginners" was a bit off putting, maybe even
condescending.
So I have been toying with the idea of *An Introduction to . . . . . .*

How the series will be presented (distributed) on tiddlywiki.com (ToC or
separate tab or list-links etc.) will be an issue later.
I think maybe I should first get all the tiddlers onto the website, then
work more on how to present them properly.

Before I can make a proposal on Github
to include these in
tiddlywiki.com I feel I *have to finalize the naming scheme*.

I've been stuck on this for over a month now.

I need MORE feedback!

Thanks for your feedback!

Do you remember if you had to go into permissions on your 8.0 device? Or
did it ask you?

In theory it should ask about permissions, but I don't know at what
generation that feature gets activated.

Did anyone here get *asked* about storage permissions when they installed?
Obviously I should have been taking better notes ...

[tw5] Re: Unilink and my possibly unrealistic wants...

2019-03-05 Thread TonyM
Ste,

Let us assume it Is "just that you feel titles look better in lower case in
the text". Using CSS will maintain the references or back links.

Create a tiddler tagged $:/tags/Stylesheet
.uc {
 text-transform: uppercase;
}
.lc { text-transform: lowercase; }
.cc { text-transform: capitalize; }
.nc { text-transform: none; }

Then if and when you want to transform the text use is like this

* New Tiddler 42 plus
* This method is the best in A sentence @@.nc New Tiddler 42 plus@@
like this
* @@.nc New Tiddler 42 plus@@
* @@.lc New Tiddler 42 plus@@
* @@.uc New Tiddler 42 plus@@
* @@.cc New Tiddler 42 plus@@

;.nc New Tiddler 42 plus
;.lc New Tiddler 42 plus
;.uc New Tiddler 42 plus
;.cc New Tiddler 42 plus

:.nc New Tiddler 42 plus
:.lc New Tiddler 42 plus
:.uc New Tiddler 42 plus
:.cc New Tiddler 42 plus

You could create an Editor Toolbar button to wrap a tile.

This is best in my view because it is at the place where the link us used
you define its format, not globally.

For items you list use the caption

Tony

[tw5] Re: Unilink and my possibly unrealistic wants...

2019-03-05 Thread Diego Mesa
Hey Ste,

A *broken* answer that hopefully someone else can fix would be:

<$button>
<$list filter="[tag[HelloThere]]">
<$action-setfield $field="aliases" $value=<> />

Add aliases

This will cause all tiddler tittles to be copied to a field called aliases
*HOWEVER,* aliases expects tiddler titles with spaces to be contained
within double brackets. This does *not* do that. Hopefully someone else
chimes in

[tw5] Re: Unilink and my possibly unrealistic wants...

2019-03-05 Thread TonyM
Ste,

Why are you Doing This . Is it just that you feel titles
look better in Caps and not in line in the text. Personally, if I found
myself doing something like this manually throughout a document, I would
stop and find a better solution. Oddly for me I never need to do this
because I choose the title names with caution and do not care if a link
contains caps, if the object/tiddler it points to is validly caps.

Please enlighten me and I may have an alternate for you.

[tw5] Re: [TW5-Bob] Failure to save tiddlers to disk

2019-03-05 Thread Matrix
Jed,

I deleted that theme and have since had the disconnected state occur
without the banner still. I believe it has to do with opening Chrome after
a system reboot or other reason for closing Chrome, with the setting for
opening the same tabs you had open before. This leads to the wiki being
open and editable in your browser, but it doesn't appear to know that it
isn't connected to the server. Is this a plausible explanation?

In my original case, I was playing with that "save plugin as folder"
feature. I was trying to figure out how to copy plugins from one sub-wiki
to another (new) one, which I still haven't really figured out how to do.
Is there a recommended way to handle this?

Thanks!

Re: [tw5] JavaScript Macro Does Not Process Escape Characters Correctly

2019-03-05 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Mohammad

I think that the problem here is likely to be the way that HTML processes
whitespace: by default, all the different types of whitespace are merged
together as spaces (even newlines!).

If you want to see the full string, try either putting it in a pre tag or a
textarea. For example:

<$macrocall $name=jsmac
a="one"
b="two"
s=" \n "
/>

Best wishes

Jeremy.

I think engine.js could be able to handle it, even if we need to provide

[tw5] Re: SNR: Search and Replace in Tiddler Fields

2019-03-05 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
I'm not sure how much TiddlyWiki users understand regular expressions.

There are TWO basic modes.

When flag m ("multi-line") is enabled matching is for only the FIRST
match to the regular expression.

When flag g ("global") is enabled the match is repeated until no further
matches are possible.

The flags also change the SCOPE.

Under m the start anchor at the beginning of a LINE is ^ and terminates
at line end with $ .

Under g the start anchor is at start of the FIELD with ^ and
terminates at the end of the field $ .

These two screenshots show the difference ...

UNDER "G" ...

UNDER "M" ...

Just info I thought useful.

It works fine! Its different and useful. "m" mode allows STEPS on changes
that "g" doesn't.

It is possible that your tool could support both m and g ?

[tw5] A TiddlyWiki for Dummies series ...

2019-03-05 Thread Thomas Elmiger
Hi

Interesting and important questions. Some thoughts.

===

Beginnerʼs Guide: Saving

Beginner: That's what I am
Guide: That's what I need

===

How big could this get?
- tiddlers on tiddlywiki.com
- Beginnerʼs Guide Edition
- Video series
- ...

===

Learning curve

1. Beginner => Beginnerʼs Guide
2. Advanced user => (?) tiddlywiki.com
3. Developer => Developer Documentation (tiddlywiki.com/dev)

===

How would we distribute this info in TW elements?

Tag: BeginnersGuide
Title of wiki: Beginnerʼs Guide
Tiddler title: Chapter 1
Start of text field: !!! Saving
Caption: Saving
Description: Saving your wiki on a computer locally

===

Search: "beginner" produces only 2 results at the moment. One tiddler
"Beginnerʼs Guide" would be enough. It could contain the table of contents
(TOC) and/or a link to the edition. It could also serve as a sidebar tab. The
toc would display captions not tiddler titles.

===

Keep it simple!

All the best,
Thomas

[tw5] Re: Unilink and my possibly unrealistic wants...

2019-03-05 Thread PMario
Hi Stephen,

You are right: Alias links are _not_ case-sensitive. So the aliases field
can work with lower letters only if you want. I personally prefer
single-word aliases, because they are faster to type. ...

I did think about a possibility, to go for the tiddler title, if I don't
find the right aliases. ... I think, the aka-macro would be an easy fix,
because we can use the emptyMessage section, that is used for missing
aliases at the moment. IMO this wouldn't make any performance difference.

The problem is backlink handling, which is highly optimized for speed. AND
every "missing alias" link that is a real title would show up as "missing
alias" at the moment. ...

I'll have a closer look. A very close one ;)

have fun!
mario

[tw5] Unilink and my possibly unrealistic wants...

2019-03-05 Thread Ste Wilson
I gave the unilink plugin a try today and if I were starting my wiki it would
definitely definetly definetly be one of the first things I'd install.

However.. I have nearly 700 tiddlers..
All with capital letters in their titles and so I am spending increasing
amounts of time Doing This to link around my wiki.

So my understanding of unilink is that I need to create an alias field.. But in
my the alias would be, in all but a handful of cases, the title.. I just need
it to be case blind..

Does that mean I have to create each alias field by hand or is there a
wonderful filter widget thing and if it can copy the title to the alias would
it then become case blind even though the aliases had uppercase letters in
them?

Hoping you wonderful peeps can help!

Stephen

[tw5] More (and more severe) JS crash problems with Codemirror

2019-03-05 Thread stefano franchi
Even though I solved the previous issue with the missing file by installing
the CM CSS Highlights plugin, I am now left with an unusable tiddlywiki
because it crashes with a Javascript error every time I open a tiddler for
editing. I either get a type error or a more generic "script error", as
below:
Internal JavaScript Error
Well, this is embarrassing. It is recommended that you restart TiddlyWiki
by refreshing your browser
TypeError: n is undefined

Internal JavaScript Error
Well, this is embarrassing. It is recommended that you restart TiddlyWiki
by refreshing your browser
Script error.

I tried uninstalling all Codemirror plugins, to no effect. I am not even
sure Codemirror is the culprit. However but I did not edit the tiddlywiki
instance in the last hour except for playing with CM, so it's my primary
suspect.

Suggestions on how I can get out of this mess?

Cheers,

S.

How about

* Tiddlers for Beginners

Then it will sort to the top, but have the preferred naming convention.

@pmario, I think we should add red sign on the install banner when you
click on open plugin-library ...

if those cm addons get a field "depends-on" we could show its content if
the field exists

Thanks for the hint. The missing file was hidden in the Code Mirror CSS
Highlighting additional plugin. Installing it solved the issue.

[tw5] A TiddlyWiki for Dummies series ...

2019-03-05 Thread S. S.

So many have said TiddlyWiki *MUST HAVE THIS.*

So if it is wanted, *How should the series be named?*

Some suggestions:

An Introduction to WidgetsWidgets - An Introduction
An Intro to WikiText
 Wikitext - an Intro

 Tiddlers for Beginners
GettingStarted - MacrosMacros - GettingStarted
Get Started with TemplatesTemplates - Get Started
A Guide to TagsTags - A Guide
Understanding FiltersFilters - Understanding

At this point - a decision needs to be made.
There was some "lively discussion" last month leading to the above results:
Here

It's difficult to decide; there are many who have experience.
If we can't decide, we won't have this any-time soon!

I search for documentation multiple times a day.
For reasons stated in the "lively discussion" my preference is:
An Introduction to . . . ( or ) An Intro to . . .

Main reason why: Alpha sorting when searching brings "*An*" near the top of
the list.

What's yours - and if possible, why?

P.S. Jeremy has an opinion different from mine. If his suggestion is to be
taken, my choice would be in the form: Tiddlers for Beginners

Although a brief trip to codemirror's own repo on github shows that in fact
there is a mode/css/css.js file. I wonder if it somehow did not make it
into the plugin?

[tw5] CodeMirror plugin javascript error/bug?

2019-03-05 Thread stefano franchi
I just discovered that when I try to fold all tiddlers with the Codemirror
plugin installed, TW crashes with the following error:

Internal JavaScript Error
Well, this is embarrassing. It is recommended that you restart TiddlyWiki
by refreshing your browser
Error executing boot module
$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/codemirror/addon/hint/css-hint.js: "Cannot find
module named '../../mode/css/css' required by module
'$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/codemirror/addon/hint/css-hint.js', resolved to
$:/plugins/tiddlywiki/codemirror/mode/css/css" undefined

I am not sure which file is missing but there seems to be no mode/css/css
item anywhere in the codemirror plugin tree
