[tw5] TiddlyDesktop Big Sur icons

2021-10-28 Thread carlosj...@gmail.com
Hi all,

a friend of mine made a couple of icons for TiddlyDesktop that are
consistent with the new Big Sur icon style and I'd like to share them with
you.

Best regards,
Carlos

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop with occasional git/cloud save

2021-10-21 Thread carlosj...@gmail.com
Hi all,

Here is one thing that confuses me: one can configure multiple savers but
there is no indication about which one is active. If I configure gitlab/hub
and TiddlyHost, will that save to all three at the same time? If not, to
which one? Is it configurable at all?

Next related thing that confuses me: if I use TiddlyDesktop, can I still
somehow save (preferably non automatically) to TiddlyHost or gitlab/hub? I
think this has to be a fairly common use case: I keep a local copy but want
to access it from my phone, so it is periodically saved to TiddlyHost or
maybe gitlab/hub pages. Now, for the gitlab/hub cases I still can manage by
pushing changes from the local filesystem, but should I manually upload to
TiddlyHost as well? If this is so, why couldn't the savers be explicitly
triggered from inside the wiki (seems much more convenient to me)?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Carlos

[tw5] Tiddlydesktop - any reason to use it instead of firefox?

2021-03-01 Thread Mikel Azure
I had a look at Francis' youtube tutorials, the final one, which is four
or so years old now, introduced Tiddlydesktop as a solution to problems
with Firefox security stuff.

I liked the idea of a Tiddlywiki specific 'browser', it just seemed
elegant. However, are there substantive advantages to using it instead of
firefox?

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop and font size

In ordinary TW I click command - + to increase the font size on everything
in the browser window. That doesn't seem to work in TiddlyDesktop. Or am I
missing something?

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop bug with local links in Cyrillic

2020-06-01 Thread 'Jake' via TiddlyWiki
I was having troubles (and still do) trying to open links like [[Cyrillic
link|file:///g:\!Notebook\Записная1]]. So I tried to use it in Unicode
[[Cyrillic
link|file:///G:/!Notebook/%D0%97%D0%B0%D0%BF%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%8F1]]
but with the same result.
I asked people here on the forum and they said they have no problem with
those. So I just decided that's just my local system problem. Untill I
tried opening my TW in a browser, not in the TiddlyDesktop that I was
usually working in. And everything works just fine! Both ways: either in
Cyrillic letters or with Unicode.

So my petition to those who develop TiddlyDesktop: could you make it handle
links to local folders in Cyrillic and Unicode in general the same way it
handles links in Latin?

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop won't appear in the programs list or on the start menu.

2020-05-30 Thread Anita T
I've tried to install TiddlyDesktop. I downloaded and unzipped it and ran
nw.exe. I got the actual program to run but it won't show up in the
programs list, I cannot pin it to my start menu or dock, and when running,
said program doesn't use the correct dock icon. Is there a way to install
it correctly? I'm very new at this.

Thanks

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop method for exporting individual tiddlers (90% there)

2020-05-19 Thread Jared Lettau
Goal: To export individual tiddlers in a format where they can be imported.

The code below works well, EXCEPT:

   - It exports as HTML, which when imported doesn't get parsed the way
importing json or .tid files do. If there's a workaround for importing HTML
   that would solve.
   - I don't see a way to alter the code to export .tid files.

One idea would be to mashup functionality from $:/core/macros/export,
however I have been usuccessful in doing so...

Any help is appreciated.

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop on Linux?

2020-05-15 Thread Vaughn Papenhausen
I recently (as in past couple of days) switched to Linux (specifically
Ubuntu 20.04). I just tried downloading TiddlyDesktop, but couldn't get it
to run by following the instructions here
. Running
nw

doesn't really do anything, it just gives me some (what appears to be)
documentation that I don't understand, and running
TiddlyWiki.app

returns "command not found". What else should I be doing?

More generally, are there any Linux users around here? How do you tend to
prefer to use TW on your machines?

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop

2020-04-19 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
I am now using this successfully - yay !!

Each time I amend a tiddler and then close it, TD does a save, which is great.
It saves a full copy with a unique number in a backup folder.

My question is this: does TD only save to the backup folder or does it also
update the file I am currently using?

[tw5] tiddlydesktop iframe problem

Hi,

I have this in a tiddler that plays a video as soon as it opens

It works when I use the TW in Firefox and Chrome, but not in Tiddlydesktop,
i.e. there's a blank play line with play button, but nothing happens when
you click play

Is there a workaround for this?

thanks,

[tw5] Tiddlydesktop internal links failing to open in Tiddlydesktop and instead direct to browser

2019-05-11 Thread Reece Shaw
Hey Folks,

I've run into a strange issue when utilizing $wikify to render custom
fields as formatted wikitext. The premise for the wiki design is to utilize
a "UI" tiddler and a "data" tiddler. The UI controls/edits the data
tiddler, after which point it can be used to display the data from the data
tiddler in any format that I desire, based out of a pre-generated "form"
template.

When using the following macro, opening the internally linked tiddlers
directs the tiddlywiki file to be opened in my chrome browser instead of
opening the expected tiddler.

\define testcon-display-block($field$)
<$wikify name="md" text={{!!$field$}} type="text/vnd.tiddlywiki" output=
"html" mode="block"><>
\end

I uploaded a video to show the behavior as well; additionally I've added
the tiddlers in question, attached here.

Trying to understand why this only occurs in tiddlydesktop but works as
expected in Chrome.

Thanks in advanced!

[tw5] tiddlydesktop sidebar width

2019-01-16 Thread Marc J. Cawood
Normally the sidebar width should be fixed and the main tiddler section
(river?) take the rest of the width and this is the case with my
tiddly.html when viewed in a browser. However, as soon as it's opened in
TiddlyDesktop it's the other way around: the main section is fixed and the
sidebar takes the rest. I have not fiddled with the default theme and have
tried other themes to no avail.

Can anyone offer guidance as to which setting/template/css properties are
used to balance these widths?

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop and New version of Node and Chromium

2018-10-11 Thread Mohammad
I tried and made a new build of Tiddlydesktop based on Jeremy
recommendation on: https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop

   1. Run download-nwjs.sh to download the latest nw.js binaries
   2. Download the TiddlyWiki5 repo from https:
//github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5 to a sibling directory to the
   TiddlyDesktop repo called "TiddlyWiki5"
   3. Run bld.sh
   4. Execute output/mac/TiddlyWiki.app or output/win/nw.exe or
   output/linux32/nw or output/linux64/nw

To do things simpler I did as below

   1. Made a new directory called *TD *(use whatever else you want)
   2. Download the latest source of Tiddlydesktop from
https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop and unzip in the above folder
   (*TD*) it will be (TD\TiddlyDesktop-master)
   3. Download the latest version of Tiddlywiki5
from https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5 and unzip to have
   *TD/TiddlyWiki5*
   4. Download the latest version of nwjs from https://dl.nwjs.io/
   5. Unzip in TiddlyDesktop-master\nwjs\ (for example for windows ypu will
   have nwjs-sdk-v0.33.4-win-ia32)
   6. Edit the bld.sh and remove those builds you dont want
   7. Open bash and run bld.sh
   8. That's all you will have Tiddlydesktop-v-0.0.14 and nwjs 0.33.4 and
   TW 5.1.18pre

Unfortunately with this update still

   1. full screen does not work
   2. mouse right click does not work
   3. open tiddler in new window does not have the menubar

please check that aspect. Shall I raise this in Git-Hub?

For wider usability I'd guess an important item is *"relative paths" for
all connected wikis*, so that TD can become properly portable (
https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop/issues/153)

Many other issue's are about "more like a browser" to put back features
that a core chrome (the engine of TD) lacks. But some of those TW itself
can do via plugins--like the "PrintRiver" plugin which substitutes for the
missing right-click menu that offers print for the stream. (see:
https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop/issues/133
)

Best wishes
Josiah

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop

2018-08-17 Thread Richard Niolon
Hi
I apologize if this is not the place to post this, but I've been looking
around and have not found anywhere to do this.

To frame this... I teach grad students and use the classic TiddlyWiki (I'll
update to the new version over academic break one of these days) as a shell
to organize course materials for my students... and me if I'm being honest.
I've posted on this before, but TiddlyWiki makes organizing handouts,
readings, topics, assignment instructions... as well as importing things
from the prior class and rearranging them for a new semester... very easy.
Udo's YourSearch plugin makes the whole thing searchable, which is a big
bonus. My students complain about all sorts of things, but I have had only
compliments about my course website for years now.

The problem was... Firefox ended support for the scripting required to
*save* a TiddlyWiki. When I discovered this, I cursed them. I tried the
first version of TiddlyDesktop and had some issue with it. I went to the
portable version of the Firefox ESR release, but that's been a pain. I may
have four TiddlyWiki shells a semester, and so editing and switching
between them has been tricky. After a lot of work to figure out how to
install more than one version of Firefox, sometimes links still open in the
wrong version (or won't open because one version is already open and it
causes a conflict) and I can't figure out how to fix it (there's *dozens*
of calls to Firefox in the Windows registry, and even if I figure out which
one needs changing, I have to make that change on two other machines
running different versions of Windows). Further, every time there is an
update to Firefox, something gets borked in my set up. Switching to some
other solution is twice as much work for me, so I've stayed with the ESR,
though I hate it.

Then I saw and tried the newest version (13 I think) of TiddlyDesktop. This
has made organizing and editing TiddlyWikis *SO SIMPLE*.

I don't know how much work the TiddlyDesktop project has created, on top of
the work for the two versions of TiddlyWiki, but I really appreciate it.
My thanks to Jermolene R and everyone else working on this - you have made
my job much easier :)

*THANKS!*
Rich

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop + Chrome Extensions?

2018-08-05 Thread BurningTreeC
Hi community,

I'm trying to figure out how to add chrome extensions (like they're found
in the chrome webstore
) to TiddlyDesktop

There are some useful extensions, most notable some search bars that search
the page, like this
one:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/find%2B-regex-find-in-page/fddffkdncgkkdjobemgbpojjeffmmofb

I've found some information about how to load extensions in nw.js (TD is
based on nw.js)
We can also open the "extensions" page from within TD by pressing "F12" for
the developer console, then opening the console and typing:

this.document.location = "chrome://extensions"

This opens the chrome extensions tab. There's the "developer mode" that
would allow to load unpacked extensions (for example downloaded .zip from a
github repo, like for above-mentioned
search-extension: https://github.com/brandon1024/find).
But my TiddlyDesktop chrashes if I try to activate developer mode.

I've found more information for loading extensions
here: https://github.com/nwjs/nw.js/wiki/third-party-browser-plugins

I just made this thread to gather resources and to find others that are
interested in this, too.

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop keyboard language?

2018-07-31 Thread DemoniWaari
Hi,

I was wondering if here is someone who known how to change the keyboard
language of TiddlyDesktop? I noticed that mine was set to Norwegian, which
is slighly different than Finnish. I found a keyboard shortcut for changing
it in chromium (alt+caps) and it changed it to English. Unfortunately, it
does not change it back and now I have a completely wrong keyboard language
and no idea how to change it!

[tw5] tiddlydesktop panel icon

2018-07-10 Thread Dave
Is there a way to specify the panel icon in tiddlydesktop for the multiple
TWs you have open with it?

Out of the box its a grey square with a shadowy central blob.
I checked settings, and the "thumbnails" folder in the settings folder, but
nothing...
There's a file called favicons, but image apps don't open it.

just curious,
- Dave

[tw5] TiddlyDesktop - can't open nw

2018-06-07 Thread mgrbl
I'm having some trouble installing TiddlyDesktop on Ubuntu 18.04:
- downloaded latest release tiddlydesktop-linux64-v0.0.13.zip from
https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop/releases
- unzipped the file
- can't open "nw" from file mngr: Could not display "nw". There is no
application installed for "shared library" files.
- can't run "./nw" from terminal either: No such file or directory.

tried many possible solutions suggested in this group and ubuntu/linux
groups, w/o any luck.

pretty new to linux/ubuntu, so I might just be missing the obvious here...

all tips welcome, thx!

[tw] Re: [TW5] TiddlyDesktop blurry text problem

2016-02-15 Thread Adrian Sampaleanu
For now, you have to live with the blurriness on the secondary monitor
since Firefox has a problem rendering sharply on secondary displays if they
use a different scaling factor compared to the primary. If you'd like to
have the larger external monitor be the clear one, set it as the primary.
In Firefox 47, they've addressed the issue of DPI settings per display so
if you can hang on until then, you'll have improved rendering. This
blurriness was bothering me so much that I switched to using the Nightly
version of Firefox (v47 currently) as my browser, but that's not something
I'd recommend for most people due to the possibility of breaking changes.

[tw] [TW5] TiddlyDesktop blurry text problem

2016-01-06 Thread CL
First of all, I use TiddlyDesktop 0.0.8, Windows 10 (64bit) and Surface Pro
3.

I am getting blurry text on the TiddlyDesktop. Other brower looks fine
except Google Chrome.
So I was looking for solution to fix this problem. I have found two
solutions so far.

First solution I found is this youtube video
. Disabling hardware
acceleration. This fixed the problem for Google Chrome.
Is there any way of applying this solution to TiddlyDesktop?

Second solution I found is this youtube video.
I guess this code force dpi
sacle to 1. (pixcel to pixel match)
I use 175% scale in for my Surface Pro 3 screen(in Windows display setting).
When I apply the code in the video, Google Chrome become quite small and
text become crystal clear.
Then I changed Google Chrome zoom scale into 175% to match to the previous
text size,
It's showing me the best clarity.
How can I achieve this for TiddlyDesktop?

I believe I am having this problem because of high dpi screen.
I would really appreciate any help

Best wishes

In TiddlyDesktop there is actually a separate developer tools window for each
window that you see. The developer tools window for wiki folder windows is
automatically opened so that you can see the any error messages in the console.

Hi Ton,

*WinSplit Revolution is a small utility which allows you to easily
organize your open windows. WinSplit Revolution is especially useful for
high-end LCD screens with high resolutions because it helps you to
 efficiently manage many active windows.*

I'd rather not use any such apps when there is a cross-platform tw browser
adaptation the engine of which sure comes with zooming capabilities. Also,
I'd like to use TiddlyDesktop with a maximized window and the ability to
CTRL+ / CTRL- / CTRL0 the window as in any other browser implementing the
same engine.

Hi Tobias,

That's strange. I cannot remember I changed more than width and height but
for completeness here is my package.json:

{
name: TiddlyWiki,
main: ./html/main.html,
chromium-args: --enable-experimental-web-platform-features,
window: {
icon: images/app_icon.png,
toolbar: false,
width: 1280,
height: 1040,
min_width: 700,
min_height: 500
},
webkit: {
plugin: true
}
}

I can change width and height with the expected result.

Cheers,

I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to post about TiddlyDesktop. Hopefully
shortly!

I'm going to need a lot of help with TiddlyDesktop. On the Linux side,
there are instructions here:

https://github.com/rogerwang/node-webkit/wiki/How-to-package-and-distribute-your-apps

But I don't really know enough Linux to be able to make a package for
various packaging systems with dependencies as the node-webkit package.

On the Windows side I'd also appreciate help making a proper MSI installer
for TiddlyDesktop.

Best wishes

2014-01-10 Thread Måns
Citation from Twitter:

RT @TiddlyWiki: Just published the first release of TiddlyDesktop, a custom
 Win/Mac browser for TiddlyWiki based on node-webkit - https://t.coGe69UJWPSZ

Is there a chance that @bauwe or @pmario would consider making a linux
version/fork?

That would be awesome :-)

Cheers Måns Mårtensson
