As part of the Google SOC. Google accepted the tomcat-reverse-proxy project to be executed by Anders Nyman ( anders.nyman at gmail d ot com ) The scope of the project is to let Tomcat act a reverse proxy by extending the balancer webapp. To make it easier to get the job done this summer while not relying on an intermediate committer, I propose granting commit access for only the following module: jakarta-tomcat-catalina/webapps/balancer/ The apache id granted would be prefixed with soc and be temporary. I gladly volunteer to help review, comment, and commit Anders' contributions as appropriate. If/when the contributions are of such quality as to merit commitership, I'll also gladly start a vote and +1 it. But that's not the case yet, a good student application notwithstanding. Here's why IMO the reverse proxy is a good thing to be done, and Tomcat can benefit from it. I doubt if the balancer is a good place for such addition. Also I agree with Yoav. If the code is good, and if it works I see no reason why not including it in the code. I have developed, and I am developing the majority of the code without being connected to the CVS all the time. I contributed the patch for the Unix scripts (because they mattered to me). The windows scripts were a low priority because it was assumed that people running Tomcat from them (as opposed to running it as a service or the start menu items) would be developers and would have a full JDK. I am not complaining about the relase method not being called between different invocations of a tag. This is correct and spec compliant. As far as I understand the specs the JSP environment must guarantee that release is called at least ONCE during the lifetime of a tag instance. If this tag is pooled this is done in the _jspDestroy method, but if tag pooling is disabled I see no call to release. I was forced to turn off the pooling because the 3rd party who created the application did implement its tags in a NON spec compliant way such that private internal data does not get reseted correctly for subsequent calls of the same tag instance. I just want to be sure that release is also called in this non pooling case.
