Hello Asit

Could it be that you write for Java 1.5 whilst your Tomcat somehow
expects Java 1.3?
Try this link:
http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/how-to-run-javac-15-or-beyond-compiler-for-jsp-compilation-in-tomcat-55-with-generics-enabled-and-other-15-only-features/1/

hope it helps
have a nice day

ISAPI redirector HELP ME!

2005-02-24 Thread Sue Roe
Hi

I am having a bit of a nightmare and hoping someone may be able to help. I
have Tomcat 4.1 / IIS 5 on Windows 2000 Server.

Basically all was working swimmingly until someone deleted the 'conf'
directory under Tomcat 4.1 installation, then re-started our server...
Tomcat obviously wouldn't start. I have restored the 'conf' directory that
we found on a backup. Tomcat starts fine again, but the redirection is now
not working...

Any ideas gratefully received!!! I have reinstalled Tomcat, and set the
filter up again in IIS but its now redirecting. This is a live system and I
will kill the person who deleted the conf file if I can find them ;-)

Many thanks

Developing a large project using Tomcat, please help me

2005-01-17 Thread GPezzini
Hi,
we are developing a large java project using Tomcat.
On the same project works several persons and the project counts
serveral thousand of classes.

The project has (in few words) three big places:
- standard: the place in which are placed all the classes (not jar but
classes)
- patches: the places in which are places the bug-fixes of standard classes
- work in progress: the place in which a developer develop his own
modification to a standard class

Each developer has its own Tomcat.

Now, imagine that
- in standard classes is there a class named: helpme.class
- this class has been bug-fixed and in patches is there the same class
- a developer is working on its own local copy of this class and he has
  places it in his own work-in-progress folder

Is possible using Tomcat to manage a situation like that?
In other word, If I develop using j2SE standard, to obtaint what i want, I
simply set my CLASSPATH
env variable in this way;

set
CLASSPATH=x:\MyWorkInProgress\classes;x:\AllPatches\classes;x:\Standard\classes

And java default classpath ensure me that it loads helpme.class first
looking in WowkInProgress,
than, if not found, in AllPatches, than, if not found in standard

Is it possible during Tomcat runtime to have something like that (possibly
WITHOUT using jar)

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi,

Use init(ServletConfig config) method of servlet for
init parameters. bcs, init parameters will be set only
once it is initialised... so, u have to do the same in
the init() method only...

you should send your unsubscribe from the same mail account as you subscribed
with. you will then get an email from the mailing list bot (even if you are not
on the list) telling you what to do. if you are not receiving those messages
perhaps you ought to check your isp's email filters, or maybe your own junk
mail settings, perhaps they are getting eaten. these messages have confirmation
URLs to confirm you want the unsubscribe.

Did you try to unsubscribe using a different address than the one you
signed up with?

You can start a subscription for an alternate address,
for example [EMAIL PROTECTED], just add a hyphen and your
address (with '=' instead of '@') after the command word:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

To stop subscription for this address, mail:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

The context must be reloadable ie., set the reloadable = true in the context

You need to create a mapping in web.xml to invoke the servlet. Look at
the elements
servlet and servlet-mapping elements in the
example/WEB-INF/web.xml. Create a similar one and restart Tomcat.

Welcome aboard.

The first thing you should do is find yourself a good book or tutorial.
There is a good one here:
http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.5-doc/appdev/index.html

If you just want a simple servlet example that you can drop into
a running instance of Tomcat and run you can find one here:
http://simple.souther.us

Good Luck

2004-12-13 Thread David Smith
This error can be found using an xml validator.

Specifically:
   init-param
   param-nameconfig/param-name
   param-value/WEB-INF/struts-config.xml/param-value
   /init-param
   /init-param
   param-nameapplication/param-name
param-valuesrc.tcs.beans.ApplicationResources/param-value
   /init-param
Your second init-param block is opened with an ending tag.

Can anyone help me/guide me?

2004-11-02 Thread vaneet
Dear All,

i have a domain name and i am using no-ip software to bind my IP address (my ISP
provides dynamic IP )

so, i have redirected my domain name: http://www.export4u.co.uk to
micsexport.servepics.com

In tomcat Server.xml file, i have put host name
Host name=www.export4u.co.uk

now problem is:
when u visit http://www.export4u.co.uk

and u click on contact us section.

If a user refreshes a page while he is on any section.. contact us, about us ... and
etc , the browser takes back the user to the home page which is index page.
(http://www.export4u.co.uk )

I want the user to remain on the same page where he visited. .
Also, when u go through different pages, u cannot see which page on Address URL . (
complete Encapsulation :)

Also, google is only indexing my home page.

I think it has to do with redirection as i am redirected

What changes do i need to do in server.xml so that i doesnt happen?

Thankx in advance.
Vaneet

you back to the default page view.
You'll need to provide a proper URL, e.g., at least something like
http://www.export4u.co.uk/contact;, instead of (apparently) just
forwarding within your main servlet. Or keep track of the user's
real page location as part of the session. Or something :-)

Dear hassan,
Thankx

I am not using any servlets.
this is just an HTML website.

However, the web sever is TOMCAT.
so i thought , might be some settings in server.xml and web.xml which can help me
resolve this.

I hope u understood my question.

Vaneet

Well, I can't imagine any way that plain HTML files would *not* show
up as the page URL in a default Tomcat install; they certainly do on
any of my systems.
Perhaps if you post your server.xml and web.xml files...

Hi,
One question that's good to ask if whether you need Apache, or whether Tomcat by
itself can meet your requirements. Tomcat can serve static content such as HTML and
images. So on this list, we frequently suggest that new Tomcat users first try Tomcat
by itself. You can always add Apache to the mix later, and worry about the connectors
(mod_jk or whichever one you want) later.

Yes, I need the Apache due security SSL, and the Tomcat as serving of

This is because the oracle dll is not found int the PATH environment
variable. For this you should have Oracle client installed. Or you can use
Oracle thin driver which dont need Oracle installed

Hi Shanti

Your error seems to be a databse connection error. Tell me r u using oracle as your
database for the application. Then you need to check the entries for db connectivity
files - driverproperties.properties. Reply me with detailed info sot that i can help
in a much better way.

Prashant

2004-08-12 Thread Rajesh
This is Rajesh. I am working on webApplication project.The project
Environment is in
Struts1.1 Framework with jdk1.4.2_01,WebServer as Tomcat5 on O.S Linux
connecting back-end Mysql.
I am trouble shooting a problem.
   I have properly closed each and every connection whenever I
open a connection.So the db connection is properly maintained.And
the Session too is properly maintained.In struts1.1 struts-config.xml
just for connection pooling I've coded data-source tag like
   data-sources
   data-source type=org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource
   set-property property=driverClassName
 value=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver/
   set-property property=url
 value=jdbc:mysql://ip address/contextname/
   set-property property=username
 value=/
   set-property property=password
 value=/
   set-property property=removeAbandoned
 value=true/
   set-property property=removeAbandonedTimeout
 value=60/
   /data-source
   /data-sources
So for every 60 seconds the connection pool is checked to freeze-out the
unwanted Connection.
Every thing works fine on first day but on the consecutive day it troubles.

MAIN PROBLEM STATEMENT IS
On the next day when I try to login to my site it is not
letting me login.
   I am sure there is no problem in my coding, because the whole day
the site
is working perfectly well. Only for a period of time the db access is not
working.

So I want to know where the problem is.Whether it's in Database
Pooling or it is Tomcat related problems.

2004-08-12 Thread David Smith
I'm guessing the snippet below is from your struts-config.xml file. I
tried to make that work and couldn't even on a straight forward textbook
example. It was much easier to define the datasource in the
[context].xml file in conf/Catalina/localhost, use the DBCP db pool, and
then write my own db access code. Besides, I think I saw something to
the effect that the feature you're using below might be removed from
future Struts releases. I'm sure there are people on the list who can
confirm or deny that suspicion.

Hi Doug,

Thank for the information. Did you use Tomcat 4.1.27 version? I did not use the
manager to restart the web component. What I did is following:
1) stop tomcat, remove the myApp.war, and the myApp directory.
2) copy the new myApp.war into the webapps directory.
3) start tomcat.

When I removed the Context that was defined for the myApp.war then Tomcat unpack
the myApp.war and everything is OK. I may missing something in the server.xml
file. Can you provide a server.xml file that contains a simple Context
definition that I may use to setup my myApp.war.

Thank you in advance,
Kam

 The existence of a context in the server.xml will not prevent Tomcat from
 unpacking a war. I have a development box that has the context defined and
 the manager can undeploy and deploy the war just fine. Also restart is not
 required.

 What Tomcat will not do is unpack any war for which a matching directory
 already exist under webapps. Part of the undeploy action of the manager is
 to delete the directory.

  The link does help me to fix the problem. After creating a context for my

  However, Tomcat does unpack other web components when the server.xml does
 not
  contains a Context defined for this web component. I come to a conclusion
 is
  that the Context is used for web component that need not to be unpacked
 when
  Tomcat startup. Another the way to say this is that if I need the web
 component
  to be unpack when Tomcat startup, then I should not defined a Context for
 that

 When I removed the Context that was defined for the myApp.war then Tomcat
unpack
 the myApp.war and everything is OK. I may missing something in the
server.xml
 file. Can you provide a server.xml file that contains a simple Context
 definition that I may use to setup my myApp.war.

 Thank you in advance,
 Kam

Kam,

Your war file should still get unpacked. Having a context defined will
not affect that. You probably have a misconfiguration in your
server.xml. If you post your server.xml here then someone may spot the
problem.

2004-02-23 Thread Juan de Bravo

Hi,

I have configured Tomcat to use SSL with Client Authentication.

When I use a Web browser I import the certificate in PKCS12 format and it
works fine.

But now I need to use a client based on a Java application. I am using
HTTPClient API,
but I do not know how to configure the client certificate.

How can I develop that?

RE: Problem Compiling JSP under TOMCAT 5.0.18; please help me

2004-02-04 Thread Kal Govindu
You can try this and restart tomcat.
1. Copy tools.jar from your-jsdk\lib\tools.jar to your-
tomcat\common\lib\tools.jar This may not be necessary, but the installer
does
attempt to copy this file so it won't hurt to do the same.

And if that does not work try this step next and restart tomcat.
2.Change registry entry for

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
Apache Tomcat 4.1\Parameters\JVM Library

from (adjust these paths to your machine and java version)
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1_02\bin\client\jvm.dll

to
C:\j2sdk1.4.1_02\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll

Hope that helps

Subject: Problem Compiling JSP under TOMCAT 5.0.18; please help me

Hi to all,

I would like to pass from tomcat 3.2.x to tomcat 5.0.18;

under tomcat 3.2.x I have some package under the WEB-INF/classes of
all my sites, and run OK;

passing to tomcat 5.0.18 I have changed only tomcat, leaving
untouched all the directory where resides the sites; but when I call a
.jsp that use a package, I have this error:

org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP

An error occurred at line: 6 in the jsp file: /tst_sitengine/testDB.jsp

Generated servlet error:

 package db does not exist

import db.*;
^

On catalina.log I have a detail about the error, where is reported the
classpath where jasper is looking for, and doesn't appear WEB-INF;
I think that this is why I have the error;

but How can I correct this?

Please, could someone help me? I have the same error with tomcat 5.0.16;

here there is the content of catalina.log

Try reading the documentation. The default invoker is disabled in 4.1.x.
Either re-enable it, or create servlet/servlet mapping pairs in the
web.xml file.

You should change your server.xml, adding another context like

Context path=/webdev docBase=webdev debug=0
reloadable=true crossContext=true
/Context

Try to see if it will help.

If his app is directly under the webapps directory, he shouldn't need to
alter server.xml.

AutoDeploy will pick it up.

You will, however need to create a mapping for your servlet in your web.xml
file under WEB-INF in your app's directory.

tomcat 4.1.29+azpache2+mod_jk2. help me please

2003-11-17 Thread Dionisio Ruiz de Zarate
Hello.
I have two great problems with tomcat+apache2+mod_jk2

1.- the first is
i must to have in the apache home (/srv/www) one conf dir with the
workers2.properties file. if i dont create this dir with the file the
systems doesn't find the workers2.properties file.
Why the system doesn't find it? the file is in the Tomcat_home/conf dir?
whic variable must i to change?

2.-the second:
the tomcat and apache works with the mod_jk2, the system returns me the
jsp pages, but if the page has some things (images, css files )into
diferents directories (/images/, /js/...) i must to declare them (the
directories) into the workers2.properties file.
Is this normal?
how can i solve?

in the workers2.properties file have this:

[logger.apache2]
level=DEBUG

[shm]
file=/var/log/apache2/tomcat_shm_log.txt
size=1048576

[channel.socket:localhost:8009]
port=8009
host=127.0.0.1

[channel.un:/opt/jakarta/tomcat/conf/jk2.socket]
tomcatId=localhost:8009
debug=0

#define the worker
[ajp13:localhost:8009]
channel=channel.socket:localhost:8009

[uri:www.dominio.com/*.jsp]
worker=ajp13:localhost:8009
[uri:www.dominio.com/images/*]
worker_ajp:localhost:8009
[uri:www.dominio.com/js/*]
worker_ajp:localhost:8009

i must to declare all the site directories, if i not declare them the
systes doesn't show the imagesn, css, js ..
 this has one great problem: if one user creates one dir, i must to
reconfigure my workers2.properties file.

How can i solve this great problem?
thanks
Conoceis cual puede ser la solucion?

in the jk2.properties file i have:

handler.list=apr,request,channelJni
channelSocket.port=8019
channelUnix.file=/opt/jakarta/tomcat/conf/jk2.socket
serverRoot=/srv/www/apache2
apr.NativeSo=/usr/lib/apache2/jkjni.so

can you help me?

the great problem for my isthe second. please help me.
thanks

I usually use Apache aliases to make URLs that point to the context, but
not to servlets or JSPs point to the webapp's home directory. Like this:

Alias /yourApp /path/to/tomcat/webapps/yourApp

Now, when someone requests /yourApp/images/logo.jpg, Apache will grab
the file from /path/to/tomcat/webapps/yourApp/images/logo.jpg

This has the aded advantage of Apache serving your static content
instead of Tomcat.

Re: configuring tomcat 4.1.29 with apache 2 using mod_jk2. HELP me please

2003-11-10 Thread Andrew Davis
All you need for apache and mod_jk2 is the LoadModule line. Then you
need a workers2.properties file in your apache_home/conf directory.
You'll need to search on google or the apache.org site for
workers2.properties file parameters.

Basci Authentication... Please help me...

2003-10-31 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Dear friends,
I have a problem that I can't solve.
I'm trying to use BASIC authentication in TOMCAT 4.0.5 for a web application and
 its web.xml file is:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=ISO-8859-1?

!DOCTYPE web-app
PUBLIC -//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN
http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd;

web-app
security-constraint
web-resource-collection
web-resource-nameArea protetta/web-resource-name
url-pattern/index.html/url-pattern
/web-resource-collection
auth-constraint
role-nametomcat/role-name
/auth-constraint
/security-constraint
login-config
auth-methodBASIC/auth-method
realm-nameBASIC AUTHENTICATION AREA/realm-name
/login-config
/web-app

But when I call index.html page no authentication form is displayed! (index.html
 exists on both the applications).
I tried it on a server with Tomcat 4.0.6 and everything goes well.

So I tried to use, on TOMCAT 4.0.5, the same web.xml also for the ROOT
 application (that comes with TOMCAT) and everything goes well.

On your opinion, why the authentication doesn't run on my application?

Please, help me!
I thank you in advance!

[Sundararaman] [Help me]

2003-08-29 Thread sundararaman
Hi All,
I am facing a critical problem in our Application.The
Application is running Apache Tomcat 4.0.1 running on Linux.
The problem is Apache Tomcat stalls and there is no further output
from the tail -f catalina.out and no further processiong in the
Application.
Description:
 As soon as the Tomcat started/application servlet is
loaded we are invoking a thread which in turn instantiates a swing timer
class and executes a method periodically with a predefined interval.and
the particular method readmail() expects,looks for any new mails from a
predefined remote POP3 directory.Everthing works fine,the new mails are
fetched from the particular directory and processed further until the
catalina.out output freezes/stops.
 We even checked or handled the situation when there is no
internet connection but not did any thing for the poor network
bandwidth.Earlier Tomcat startup.sh was giving an exception that said
something about missing X environment and awt component while we tried
to run the application on a server which didn't have X windows,then to
rectify the problem we added a -Djava.awt.headless=true option to the
CATALINA_OPTS in the catalina.sh(start up script of the Apache Tomcat
Server)
 Now please help me spotting out the problem.
 Is Apache Tomcat Server Stalls because of the
 a) -Djava.awt.headless=true option in CATALINA_OPTS
   b) Due to the startup Thread locking
   c) or due to the poor bandwidth conditions
   d) or due to the Swing Timer Component
Please help us in resolving this critical problem?

Advance Thanks,
S.Sundararaman

Running external C routine from a servlet ? Please help me !!!!

2003-08-02 Thread Michel Jubault
Hi there !

I'm running a little C program from a servlet. I'm using runtime, process
and exec to do this. I gather the result in an inputstream. In fact there's
no pb on that.
The problem is rather a path problem. All servlets in my app are using
relative path to found the others and properties file ie the working
directory is myapp/WEB-INF/classes. But for C program the default path is
always the home path ie /root or /home/user.
I must build the complete absolute path to launch my C routine. I don't
understand why the default path isn't the classes path as for servlet.
I'm running under linux Red HAT 7.3, java 1.4.1_02, Tomcat 4.1.24.

Is there any config file to modify in tomcat, linux or java?

Please help !

Many thanks in advance !

Michel
