Sunit,

This is moving off topic for the list, but here it goes.
First READ all of these instruction. You may find your problem without
having to go through all these steps.

Open Network Connections.
One at a time right click a network device and select properties.
Select uninstall.
Do this for all connections.
This will cause any network connections to stop functioning(doesn't sound
like they currently are so no problem)
Reboot the machine.
If you have a NIC card then windows should detect it and install the
drivers.
Return to Network Connections.
Follow these instructions to reinstall the loopback driver:

To manually install the adapter, follow the steps below:

Click Start, and choose Control Panel

Double-click Add Hardware and then click Next.
Select Yes, I have already connected the hardware, and then click Next.
Scroll down and click Add a new hardware device, and then click Next.
Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list, and then
click Next.
Click Network adapters, and then click Next.
In the Manufacturers box, click Microsoft.
In the Network Adapter box, click Microsoft Loopback Adapter, and then click
Next.
Click Next once more and then click Finish.
After the adapter is installed successfully, you can configure its options
manually, as with any other adapter. You need to allocate a TCP/IP address.
To manually configure the adapter's options:

Select Start | Control Panel and then choose Network Connections.
Choose Local Area Connection 2 and click Change settings of this connection
Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click Properties.
Here you can configure the IP address and Subnet Mask.

Set IP to something like 192.168.0.2

Make sure connection is Enabled when viewed from Network Connections.
You should see the IP in the Details window located in the lower left of the
window when you select the connection. Until you have this fixed you will be
unable to get TC to run. If after this you are still unable to get a ping
127.0.0.1 to work then you have some issues that need resolved and are off
topic for the list (IMHO).

Good Luck

TCP/IP is already installed using MS loop back adapter.

In command promt I tried doing ipcofig: it gives error
Also ping localhost, ping 127.0.0.0, ping 127.0.0.1 gives following error
Unable to contact IP driver, error code 2

Sunit,

Go to Network Connections.
How many connections do you have?
Open each and see what device it uses. Listed at the top in the box that
says connect using: Or scroll right in Network Connections.
For the one that is the loopback go in and set a gateway as the same as the
ip you set. Also check to see if the fire wall is enabled. Look on the
advanced tab. Disable it if it is. Click on the configure button beside the
loopback device. Does it show that it is working properly? If you have any
other network connections other than the loopback, right click them and
disable them.

Re: PROBLEM STARTING TOMCAT----------------PLEASE HELP

2004-02-17 Thread Parsons Technical Services

Good Luck
Doug
www.parsonstechnical.com

TCP/IP is already installed using MS loop back adapter.

In command promt I tried doing ipcofig: it gives error
Also ping localhost, ping 127.0.0.0, ping 127.0.0.1 gives following error
Unable to contact IP driver, error code 2

i dont know if you are using a stand alone machine(which is not connected
to any network)
   for ur development..
if yes then try to configure some loop back adapter in windows if u dont
have any network card installed..
u can configure loop back adapter in LAN connection properties.

problem starting tomcat on True64Unix

2004-01-12 Thread Damian Minkov
Reacently we wrote a little web app using hibernate - we run it in
tomcat 4.1.29
(using : java1.4.2-1 )
But when we run the application the tomcat throws exception.

the code from hibernate which throws exception is :
Class persister ..
persister..getConstructor.
a simple java.lang.reflect using.

The log file follows can anybody help with this problem. How can be fixed.
We first wrote to the hibernate forum but we saw that the problem is
actially from the
ClassLoader of Catalina.

That helped. But that was the DOCTYPE since August. Why did it

Re: DTD problem starting tomcat 4

2003-01-10 Thread Jeanfrancois Arcand
That should not make any differences since Tomcat (aka the Digester) use
local copy of the DTD. So even if the URL is wrong, internally, Tomcat
uses the previous one and your app should still deploy.

As why the URL change, I guess it is related when java.sun.com where
re-designed :-(

DTD problem starting tomcat 4

2003-01-09 Thread Dean Anderson
Since about the 4th of January, I've been getting an Invalid PUBLIC ID
error on the following web.xml file:

This app has been working for quite a while, and hasn't been changed.
Likewise, tomcat4 hasn't been changed.

When I try the java.sun.com url, it works. Whats up?

Also, I couldn't figure out how to make it load a local dtd file. It seems
unwise to depend on remote links for critical services... (it seems
unwise to use tomcat, if it will break without modification... I am
somewhat alarmed.)

problem starting tomcat and apache on windows 95 for the first time

2002-05-14 Thread Geoffrey Khan

Hello,

I posted this message a few days ago but didn't get a reply, so maybe if I
post again I will. :-)

I am having problems running Tomcat 4.0.3 with my Apache 1.3.20 web server
and am emailing this list to see if any one can help me get it working.

I am running both these applications on Windows 95 and both are working fine
on their own ie. I can initialise Tomcat as a stand-alone no problem and
can use Apache (for PHP, etc) no problem as well.

I’ve followed the steps in the Tomcat installation notes whereby I have:

1. Placed the mod_webapp.so file in the Modules directory of Apache 1.3.20.
2. Placed libapr.dll in the Modules directory of Apache 1.3.20.
3. Placed libapr.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system (as advised by the Galatea Flash
Guide page (http://www.galatea.com/flashguides/apache-tomcat-4-win32.xml). I
have also tried to start Apache without copying this file to the WINDOWS
directory and I still have error messages).
4. Added AddModule mod_webapp.c to Apache httpd.conf file.
5. Added LoadModule webapp_module modules/mod_webapp.so to Apache httpd.conf
file.
6. Added:
WebAppConnection conn warp localhost:8008
WebAppDeploy examplesconn /examples
WebAppInfo /webapp-info

to VirtualHost * /VirtualHost tags at the end of the httpd.conf file.
*Note these tags are # out. Is this correct?

When I start up Apache I get the error message:

Cannot add module via name 'mod_webapp.c' not in list of loaded modules

When I # out the AddModule directive I get the error message:

Cannot load c:program files/apache group/apache/modules/mod_webapp.so into
server: (31) A device attached to the system is not functioning.

Can someone please offer any advice as I have followed the directives listed
in the Tomcat notes (plus the one’s on the previously mentioned Galatea
site) and it still isn’t working?

Additionally, when I do get the two working together will I have any
problems if I upgrade my OS? I am looking to upgrade to Windows 98SE very
soon and wonder if I may encounter problems if I do upgrade?

Many thanks,

Geoff Khan

Problem starting Tomcat 4.01 on RedHat 7.1

2002-01-21 Thread Bruce Perryman

Hello,

Originally I built Tomcat 4.01 from source following
building.txt. After an apparent successful build, and
setting up my JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME
environment variables, I ran bin/startup.sh from my
dist directory in my tomcat installation. The console
shows the usual USING messages for classpath,
catalina environment variables and java_home, but I
can't view the tomcat home page from my netscape
browser with localhost:8080. When I attempt to
shutdown using bin/shutdown.sh, I get a
ConnectionException. The catalina.out log file shows
Starting Service Tomcat-Standalone and Apache
Tomcat/4.1-dev and nothing else.

I tried downloading the latest binary to see if it was
a build problem, but I have the same problem with the
downloaded binary. I signed in as root to see if was a
permissions problem, same thing. I tried changing the
directory names to see if dashes in the directory
names make the scripts act weird, same problem.

I'm using jdk1.3.1. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi,

This happened to me also. From what I can gather the tarball is corrupt,
I tried making a patched version between the windoze one and what
I got from the unix one, but java kept core dumping on me due to the fact
that too many of the xml files hand ctrl-m's in them, and I did not want to
spend my time running dos2unix on em. In the end i downloaded 3.3a and
it worked first time. still would like to update to catalina.

2002-01-21 Thread Bruce Perryman

Hello,

I downloaded the j2sdk 1.4 beta 3 (actually the one
with forte bundled with it) and changed my JAVA_HOME
environment variable to point to this installation and
it worked.

Of course, this sdk is beta. If you could live with
that then you can explore tomcat 4. Let me know if you
find anything new.

Priya,
I think you need to set the path of java in your environment variables.
The error system cannot... is generally associated with dos not finding
the executable to run the program.so,include the jave home and tomcat home
in your PATH variable of your comp.also,i think its mentioned in the
tomcat documentation too.

Problem starting Tomcat

2001-04-05 Thread H.F.N. den Boer

It seems I've a last problem with configuring and starting Tomcat.

Tomcat 3.2.1 running on Win2k (build 5.00.2195) with IIS 5.0

The isapi filter is installed and works properly.
However, when using startup.bat, Tomcat tries to start in a new window.
In a flash, I see approx. 2 lines appearing in the Tomcat (JVM) window.
Then the window closes.

Don't know what the problem is here.
In the enclosed .zip, the isapi.log and relevant conf files.

Who can suggest a place to look for a solution ?

The problem is most likely one of two things: You already have
something running on the ports that Tomcat wants to use (8080 and 8007 by
default) or you haven't properly set JAVA_HOME and TOMCAT_HOME.

To find the actual error message, instead of running startup.bat,
run "tomcat.bat run" - this will start Tomcat in the same window and will
allow you to read the error message and determine what your problem is.

Problem starting tomcat

2001-02-28 Thread J. Sainz

Help,

I hope I am sending this to the right place.

I just installed tomcat-3.2.2b1 this is how I installed it:

 gunzip jakarta-tomcat-3.2.2b1.tar.gz
 tar -xvf jakarta-tomcat-3.2.2b1.tar

mv jakarta-tomcat-3.2.2b1/ /opt/tomcat-3.2.2b1

After doing this I added:
setenv TOMCAT_HOME /opt/tomcat-3.2.2b1
to my path and attempted to start tomcat for the first time just to see what
happens.

It sources a bunch of jar files. Like this:
/opt/tomcat/bin/startup.sh
Using classpath:
/opt/tomcat-3.2.2b1/lib/ant.jar:/opt/tomcat-3.2.2b1/lib/jasper.jar:/opt/tomc
at-3.2.2b1/lib/jaxp.jar:/opt/tomcat-3.2.2b1/lib/parser.jar:/opt/tomcat-3.2.2
b1/lib/servlet.jar:/opt/tomcat-3.2.2b1/lib/test:/opt/tomcat-3.2.2b1/lib/webs
erver.jar:/usr/local/jdk1.2.2/lib/tools.jar:./:/usr/local/mm.mysql.jdbc-1.2c
:/usr/local/jdk1.2.2

All of the files it sources are present on my machine
in the exact path that tomcat looks for them.

After this I tried going to http://localhost:8080 and I get "The page cannot
be displayed" message.

So I restarted apache and tried restarting tomcat (if it was even started)
and I get nothing.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Can you help me out?

RE: problem starting tomcat 3.2 under solaris

2001-02-06 Thread Randy Layman

The problem is exactly what it says it is - something else is using
the ports that Tomcat wants. You can edit the server.xml file in the conf
directory to change the ports (it currently uses 8080 and 8007, you can
search for these numbers). A possibility is that the last time you ran
Tomcat it didn't shutdown cleanly. Look for extra Java processes and kill
them if this is a possiblitity.

Re: problem starting tomcat 3.2 under solaris

2001-02-06 Thread Brett Perkes

Sounds like you have a couple problems.

1. You haven't set a TOMCAT_HOME environment value. This is not needed as
the start script can guess were to look but for your own sanity you may want
to set it.

2. You already have a service listening on port 8080. Kill the other
service or change to port that Tomcat runs on.

Problem starting Tomcat 3.1 (together with JRun)

2001-01-08 Thread joeri

Hi,

I'm having a problem starting the Tomcat Servlet Runner. The problem
appears when executing this command:

 "start java %TOMCAT_OPTS% -Dtomcat.home="%TOMCAT_HOME%"
org.apache.tomcat.startup.Tomcat %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9"

Tomcat used to run without any problem. After installing ColdFusion 4.5
with JRun, this problem came up.

Does anyone know a solution. Is it JRun that's causing the problem?

Thx.

Try running c:\jakarta-tomcat\bin\tomcat.bat run from a command
prompt - this will allow any errors to be printed the console. If its not
obvious what the problem is, post and we'll figure it out.

I don't think I can be more specific. All I can do is tell you which steps
are heading to my problem:

1. I put the path to all the necessary JAR-files in my CLASSPATH.

2. I start Tomcat executing the file "c:\jakarta-tomcat\bin\startup.bat".

3. This batch-file starts this file "c:\jakarta-tomcat\bin\tomcat.bat" with
optional parameter "start".

4. In the batch-file, everything goes fine except the execution of the line
added in my previous e-mail. There, a new console window is started, but
IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. It appears that the running the class
"org.apache.tomcat.startup.Tomcat" generates the error now.

In the past, everything went fine. We have several servlets and Java Server
Pages running with Tomcat. Unfortunately, since the installation of
ColdFusion 4.5 with JRun, Tomcat does not start up anymore.

Hope this helps!

Joeri

Hi,
I think JRuns default port is 8080 the same as the default port of Tomcat. So perhaps
the prot is blocked ba JRun when you try to start Tomcat. Try to use Tomcat with
another port (change server.xml).

Welcome to the wonderful world of Java on Windows NT. The JVM
expects the last version of Java installed to have written its version to
the registry and then will not run if its version number is different.
(Why? I really wish I knew.) What you need to do is to make Tomcat run
with the last version installed (which is 1.2 from your screen capture,
probably installed by JRun). Make sure to set your JAVA_HOME to the
directory containing java 1.2. Also, you probably need to edit the
tomcat.bat file so that instead of launching java -classpath... it launches
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java -classpath...

RE: Problem starting tomcat again//FATAL:java.net.BindException: Address already in use

2000-12-11 Thread Stubenrauch,Andreas

There are two issues here:
First: check the permissions of your installation. Especially the
$TOMCAT_HOME/work and $TOMCAT_HOME/conf directory has to be writeable by the
user tomcat is running as (you?)
Second: Another App is running on Port 8080 propably tomcat is already
started.

Andreas

Tomcat didn't shut down properly the last time.

It looks like your starting tomcat from a different account than last
time:

/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat/conf/tomcat-apache.conf (Permission denied)

Verify with

ls -l /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat/conf/tomcat-apache.conf
id

Make shure you have the right permissions to shutdown tomcat
and restart it.

If the bind exception persists try as root:
lsof -i :8007 (Default internal tomcat port)
lsof -i :8080 (Default tomcat port for hhtp)
lsof -i :80 (Default apache port)

Or apply this command to any other port you have configured.

Problem starting Tomcat

2000-11-09 Thread Kok Fong

Dear all,

I am quite new to Tomcat and decided to try out
Tomcat recently. I downloaded the release build and got built tomcat
according to the recomended scripts in the readme file. However after building
tomcat when I tried to start up tomcat I get the error at the end of this
email. I tried to change the port number however it didn't work as
well.

I hope that I am not asking a obvious question
because I have tried changing the port number and probing around the server.xml
file. And still I couldn't find anything at all.

Hope you guys can help me.

Best Regards,

Kok Fong

RE: Problem starting Tomcat

2000-11-09 Thread Ian Guthrie

I have been having an unusual problem with servlet reloading. We are in a
development environment and are uploading new servlets on a regular basis
for testing. I have read the FAQs and documentation on the issue and I have
set the options for servlet reloading in server.xml to true. It works for a
short time (i.e. the servlets are actually reloaded more than once so I know
my settings are correct). . . but then abruptly refuses to reload the new
servlets until I restart Tomcat. . . One day we were able to work with
reloaded servlets for most of the day before the reloading abruptly stopped.

Any ideas?
