Im considering buying the Touch and would appreciate your thoughts on the following; I intend to keep a powered HDD plugged into the USB port for playing my music files through my hifi. In addition I want to connect the Touch to my router located in another room via a homeplug set up, to obtain the internet radio service. The idea is to enjoy these services without having my PC switched on or any Logitech software installed on the PC. The radio part will be fine, but you need to select the HDD carefully - check this forum for suitable ones. Be aware the server that runs in the Touch is a slimmed-down version of the PC server and does not have / will never have certain features. Thanks for clearing that up. The lack of customisation is not a problem for me. So long as it plays music from the HDD and internet radio, it will have fulfilled my requirements. Could your processor not be powerful enough to do realtime upsampling ? stream ? What is the function of the -- in the flac part of the command ?
To me it looks like an option letter has been deleted.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch playback problem
Greetings, I am new to this forum and the squeezebox device. I have a touch connected via wireless router (2wire) to a windows XP PC. I have a small collection of flac files (35 GB) on an slave internal drive (E drive). SBS is installed on the C Drive and starts automatically. The touch sees the files and scrolls through the albums and artists just fine. when I select a song to play, the Touch seem to choose a song randomly from the album I selected, rarely, almost never, the actual song I selected. The song playing is the song displayed, (sounds great) but it is not the song I selected! Anyone have this problem? [SlimDevices: Touch] Managing Album Art on My Touch
I am in the process of converting all my CD's to flac for use on my Squeezebox Touch. With the help of some members of this forum, I was introduced to Mp3tag. I really like the user interface, very user friendly. I have been embedding album art with great success. I have a question, I have a greatest hits CD I converted to flac. I got a little fancy, I embedded the associated album art for each song individually. The album art is displayed correctly when I play the flac files on Winamp, but on the Touch, it seems to just display the art embedded in the 1st song only. Obviously this not a huge deal, but, is there a way to fix this? or am I expecting too much? You may also want to double check the file tags to make such that the tracks all have proper track numbers. [SlimDevices: Touch] My marvelous SB Touch with a perplexing puzzle
Hello everyone, new member of the forum here and a new Touch owner too. I have had my Touch for two weeks now and think it's marvellous in every regard. So easy to set up and to use and, for my tastes, absolutely stunning sound. I'm very happy with it indeed and would like to thank the members of this forum for their wise words and encouragement to potential purchasers. I run Squeezebox Server on my computer and play mostly 24bit Flacs with no problems at all. However I do have a rather small perplexing problem you might be able to help me with. I subscribe to the BW Speakers 'Society of Sound' music download service and with some of their tracks, not all, I have the following problem: a single album when loaded into the Server will show on the Touch as two albums with just one track on 'album one' and the remaining tracks on 'album two'. Another album with quite a few tracks actually splits into three 'albums' with a few tracks on each! The album title in these examples repeats itself five or so times in a cascade on the screen. Prior to obtaining my Touch I experimented with Squeezeplay Beta on my computer and by way of a test have found that the problem occurs on Squeezeplay as well. I have to admit I'm not too knowledgeable here and therefore I tend to take things slowly and check everything as I go but I just can't work out what may be causing this problem, some sort of file corruption I suppose, although I have re-downloaded a couple of the problem albums to no effect. As stated earlier this problem applies to only five albums downloaded out of twentfive or so in total. The more you understand about the process the better the end result will suit you. AFAIK Flac is a single threaded application so having a Quad processor may not mean enough processing power for realtime. I have to admit I'm not too knowledgeable here and therefore I tend to take things slowly and check everything as I go but I just can't work out what may be causing this problem, some sort of file corruption I suppose, although I have re-downloaded a couple of the problem albums to no effect. As stated earlier this problem applies to only five albums downloaded out of twentfive or so in total. If anyone has any ideas on this I would greatly appreciate hearing from them for which my thanks in anticipation. open them in mp3tag program (yes reads flacs) and look at tags (right click on files and select extended tags). Sounds like one of the tracks has a different album name (maybe the name is subtly different...a space a hyphen etc). Also you'll see the disc tag and maybe the disc number is different or maybe the artist or album artist is slightly different. What particular albums do you see this with? I've reported tagging issues to them about a year ago. But my procedure still is download, rename artwork, check tags :-(. Pretty often they're missing year or genre information. Though they seem to have improved: today's download (Portico Quartet - Knee-Deep In The North Sea) seems to be fine (listening to it on my Transporter as I type ;-)). To mherger: The albums I am experiencing difficulty with are: Benjamin Grosvenor This and That I'm getting three albums. David Rhodes Bittersweet I'm getting two albums and, oddly under the same artist I'm getting Peter Gabriel's So album which is one of my own CD rips. Gwyneth Herbert Ten Lives I'm getting two albums a different spelling of her name and only one track on each album. Howie B Good Morning Scalene I'm getting two albums Trio Goya The Heart of Invention I'm getting three albums I'm also getting an Unknown Artist which isn't even on my list!! Thank you both again. I am running my touch through one homeplug into another one in the loft which then plugs into my router. Unfortunately when I try to connect to Ethernet network there is a dhcp issue. Try rebooting your router. This may seem like a strange question but is it possible to enter ALL the Touch's menus with the Duet remote? Example: If the Touch's screen was disabled or not working and I wanted to enter my network password, MAC address, etc. Could it be done using only the Duet remote or can I only use it for navigating SB Server? running and upsampling my Flacs to 88.2.

There are other optimisations in the custom-convert file which are
good.Dont understand them all fully, but not sure I have to..
I'm happy to trust someone more knowledgable who's looked into it in
detail!
I've used Soundcheck's Touch software mods to good efect, which turn
off wifi, unneccessary startup services etc.
This approach seems reasonable given the Touches limited horsepower and
I'm happy to go with this upsampling config, as it seems to do what I'm
looking for.
I can always tweak it as time goes on, as and when I learn more about
Sox implementation..:)
One question though, in Advanced/File Format settings, under Flac I now
have Sox/Flac and Disabled as my two options.
If I set to disabled, with the Sox upsampling be done on my server
and not the Touch itself?
and is it a case of that to set Flac to Sox/Flac means the conversion
is done on the Touch itself?
Which option is preferrable you think?
I'm asking from the view that the less the Touch has to do (i.e.
transfer as much number crunching to the server pc as possible)is
better - and ties in with the Software mods reducing the load on the
Touch CPU and memory as possible.

Thanks No because how would the duet remote talk to the touch if the touch is not on the network? Bit of a catch 22, and is why many people have issues setting up the SBR. The SBR gets around this by establishing an ad-hoc wireless network with the duet, however this sometimes does not work and is where people run into issues.
