Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Interface says no player

2022-12-17 Thread Paul Webster

You should move to LMS 8.3.1 and see if the problem continues.

If it does then we would need more information about what things you
might have in place that could affect the networking stack on the LMS
machine - things like Firewalls, Anti-Virus, DNS blackhole tools etc

Touch doesn't resolve those addresses - it is LMS that does it for it.
So check the LMS logs to see if there are some clues there.

Could be firewall on the LMS machine that is not allowing inbound

It is possible that your LMS running over WiFi has picked up a different
IP address from your DHCP server on the network.

Your might be able to tell your router/DHCP-server to assign a
particular IP address to the LMS machine based on the MAC address of
your WiFi stick.

Is this Touch your only player?

Have you verified that LMS is running normally? e.g. from LMS web
interface, viewing the server.log (Settings/Information)

Is it running on Windows?
If yes - has there been an antivirus update that could now be blocking
access to it?

Do you have any other computers on your home network?
If yes - can they access the web interface of LMS?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Is there a dedicated remote control for: volume and pause over IP for SBT please?

2022-03-04 Thread Paul Webster

See the rest of the thread.

In my case it was not wifi with the B speakers - but that was simply
an example of a wireless remote (I think it uses infrared but I don't
have it to hand).
In that particular case the speakers plugged into a Linux player running
SqueezePlay via USB.
The remote acts like a "HID" and SqueezePlay was happy enough with the
commands.

If you search the forum for other posts of people using IR to connect to
a Raspberry Pi running pCP you will see how to teach the OS to interpret
regular TV-style remotes.

This old thread might help with ideas

https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?112411-Is-it-possible-to-control-LMS-with-a-radio-remote

If your LMS is running on a Raspberry Pi and that can be in line of
sight then adding an infrared receiver to it and then using that to
control a specific player (the player does not have to be running on the
LMS server) becomes cheap and relatively easy to do.

You can continue to use your Touch as a player.
The RPi then acts as a server for your Touch.

A minimal version would also not need a screen or an extra hardware for

The best is probably the list of plugins that appears in the
LMS/Settings/Plugins page

However, there might still be a few active ones that are not in the list
and the only way to find them is to search/browse this forum.
If you cannot see what you want from the LMS interface then best thing
is to start a new thread explaining what particular thing you would like
to achieve and someone may well tell you about another plugin that they
know about that can (nearly) do it.

Another way to think about it is ... what else would I like to be able
to do with my home audio set-up?
Then when you think of something ... check to see if there is a plugin
with a name/description that has a possible keyword match (easy way is
to use Search in browser - control-F/F3).
Then if you can't find one simply ask here is anyone knows how to do it
... and there is a chance that the answer will be an existing plugin.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Classic v3 vs touch

2021-06-11 Thread Paul Webster

or if you want a screen like a Touch then RPi with a touchscreen ... or
if you want a screen like SB3 then you could get one of Philippe's last
remaining SqueezeAMP systems and add a screen ... with the benefit it
has a built in amplifier so works with passive speakers (in addition to
3.5mm audio output and ability to easily do optical out) which increases
your options (plus it helps him clear his final stock).

However, you will have to install LMS first.
This is an application that can run on all sorts of different systems -
including MS Windows, MAC and plenty of Unix/Linux systems including
Raspberry Pi.
It needs to be running whenever you want to listen to Spotify on your
Squeezebox Touch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Changing WLAN Password in Squeezebox Touch / Radio

2021-05-31 Thread Paul Webster

Presumably because the software in the SB device has some logic in it
that says something like

I recognise this SSID as one that I have been configured for before so
use the credentials that I have already stored.
Then on failure it does not prompt for a different password.
The other thread that is linked to from here seems to confirm that.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Changing WLAN Password in Squeezebox Touch / Radio

2021-05-30 Thread Paul Webster

If you bring in a new router and give it the same SSID and password as
one that SB already knows then it will happily connect to it without
doing anything extra.

If you change the password but not the SSID on an existing router then
the SB (and everything else) will not be able to connect to it until you
give it the right password (ignoring WPS for the moment ... which I
don't think SB devices support anyway).

Since you changed the SSID then it would be a new network for SB devices
so they would know to prompt for the password ... since they have never
known it.
The issue here is a new password for a known SSID.

Perhaps your Touch WiFi suffer from the WiFi6 (AX) problems that others

Try disabling AX features (at least in 2.4GHz band) and see if it

2021-05-08 Thread Paul Webster

This is a device from 2011.
I don't see Chromecast mentioned in the manual at
https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/speakers-wireless-speakers/sa-ns300

There is a firmware update (from 2012) but that did not seem to offer
additional capabilities.

To diagnose the UPnP interoperability issue you will probably have to
enable logging within the UPnP Bridge Settings page.
There are diagnostics available there that are not in the LMS log
(because the part of the code that does the UPnP protocol is not part of
LMS).

I agree though - an autocomplete or similar would be useful but my guess
is that it would be slow on LMS and difficult to render.
However, iPeng has a local cache (maybe other controllers do as well) so
maybe would be easier to do there.

Also - you might have to enable older SMB protocols for the client on
your Windows machine.

That might not make much sense ... but take a look at the section
titled
"How to detect status, enable, and disable SMB protocols on the SMB
Client"
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/file-server/troubleshoot/detect-enable-and-disable-smbv1-v2-v3

If that resolves it then it might be that MS have updated a setting on
your Windows PC while you were asleep and it stopped things working.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Finally, ready to fire up my "new" Touch

2021-02-23 Thread Paul Webster

mysqueezebox.com is, in essence, a Logitech hosted version of LMS.
It can be connected to directly by Squeezebox devices.

It is able to do a few things that a local-to-you LMS cannot do - by the
nature of portions of that version being closed source - for example it
can authenticate with some 3rd-party services or use APIs that have been
made available to Logitech but are not available to the general public.

One big thing that it does not do is "proxy" the streams that are played
on your devices. That would generate too much traffic on their
infrastructure and would also probably have issues with some
broadcasters since they would see all of their listenership coming from
a single (in reality a small set) of IP addresses.
So the stream details are passed to the Squeezebox player and it plays
them itself.

This then brings us to the next issue ... the software and hardware in
your Squeezebox is old. It comes from an era when no-one thought that
broadcasters would mandate the use of https to play their stuff.
So there are various techniques used to get around that problem.
One is to run LMS on your own LAN because it is able to act as a proxy
for its local Squeezeboxes (the broadcaster would see your public IP
address whether your LMS is accessing the stream or your player is so it
resolves that issue for them).
Then your LMS can perform the https work and extract the content and
pass it using http (or whatever) to your local player.

There are a lot of other benefits to having your own local LMS - but it
is a server application so you need to have something available to run
it and it needs to be running when you need to listen via it (so running
it from a laptop that you switch off in the evening is probably not a
good idea unless you do not intend to listen via your local LMS at that
time). The good news is that since it is supporting only a small number
of local users it does not need to be as powerful as mysqueezebox.com
and since the software is available on a lot of different devices then
you have considerable choice when picking a server.
A lot of people are using a Raspberry Pi to run it because it is low
cost, small and uses so little power that leaving it on 24/7 is not an
issue.

However, you become the system admin person.
The good news is that there is a small but loyal group of people who
have used this stuff for a long time and give up their time to help
others keep their stuff running.
They tend to visit here more than once a day. Some extend the LMS
capabilities and others make new hardware and another small group have
even managed to update the core software on Squeezebox Touch and
Controller.

I do not know if DAC32 will produce better sounds that the Touch -
however you would still be able to use your Touch ... but in this case
you would use it as a controller and set it to manage a different player

If you want the dancing meters then you would set the Touch to be in a

You will only have the VU meters when it is running on the same machine

it.

I have a web site hosted on a large well known hosting provider ... they
offer one free https certificate as part of the hosting deal but can
also run a web site from it with regular http.

I have no problem hosting the .opml for the 2 people here but updating
the contents becomes a bit more complicated.
I suppose I could put a small PHP script in place allows a opml file to
be uploaded and make it require a password that is only available to the
editor.

The RadioNet plugin requires a local LMS.
My guess from your comment is that you do not have one and instead are
connecting your Touch to mysqueezebox.com
Your solution works for now - but expect more problems over time (e.g.
stations moving to HLS or HTTPS) which you will need a local LMS to
solve.

Long ago I wrote up some of my notes on how to find stream URLs (see the
link below) and smoe others added/modified parts of it when it used to
be a Wiki.
However, nowadays it is much easier to use a browser and watch the
network traffic when you play the stream from their web site. It is not
foolpproof but often works.

e.g. in Chrome - right click on the page that is playing the stream and
choose "Inspect" then click on "Network" in the new section that appears
on the right - and then start playing - then look at what it captured.

Suggestion - Perhaps there is a low level ethernetworking
interoperability problem that you can avoid by plugging in somewhere
else.
if you have another networked ethernet hub/switch then try plugging it
into that one instead ... e.g. a spare port on your ISP router.

Once you get past the language selection part then ... maybe things will
start working when you replug it back in the place where you want it (or
you can enable wifi).
Other thing to work out is what it does once the language is set ... and
do that by hand. Presumably it is writing to a config file to say which
language has been chosen.

It is a BBC choice rather than a developer choice.
You would have to move to the UK - or to be more practical, convince the

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Album art question

2019-10-12 Thread Paul Webster

What did you call the art file (e.g. folder.jpg) and where did you put
it (e.g. same folder as the music).

A scan for New and Changed might be all that you need.

Old post about it here
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?81749-Copy-files-over-network-to-Touch-USB-SD

However, it might make it less stable (less memory spare to do things
like play music)

I see that it is in 53 countries

and Tunisia is not listed, as you stated.

You said in your first post that you bought a subscription to Tidal.
Did it not ask which country you are in?

or maybe Tidal is available in the country if the original poster (has

supported for Tidal.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Found my old squeezebox touch

2019-06-08 Thread Paul Webster

Just power it up and it will probably still work ... unless you have
changed your local networking set-up.

You will need to install LMS on a machine in your local network if you
want to have Tidal or Qobuz - and install/enable a plugin.

Don't worry too much about the firmware version ... chances are that you
are on the latest and you will be able to easily download a more recent,
if available, from the menus when you get it running.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Running without Internet Connection

2019-03-21 Thread Paul Webster

Ah ... I wonder if someone could script something that invokes
LMS CLI or whatever from within the Touch that calls
randomplay://album
and then have that startup when the machine is rebooted and hang around
for X minutes to give time for things to be run ... and then invoke it.
Such a script could be invoked at the end of
/etc/init.d/rcS
something like
lmsrun randomplay://album &

and the script would add in MAC address
=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX

etc

On the assumption that the TinyLMS/TinySC that is inside the Touch is
still a regular LMS that is run with command line options to turn off
various features (e.g. no web interface) then ... if you enable SSH
access to the Touch and then dig around the file system you might find
Player/Playlist.pm

If you change a line in "sub shuffleType" from
return 'none';
to
return 'album';

Then ... it might default to "Shuffle by Album" ... as a consequence you
might not be able to set it back to "No Shuffle".

There is danger in attempting such things ... so be prepared to have to
reinstall the Touch software from scratch.

Someone who has a Touch and experience with digging around inside it
might have a better idea.

I haven't ever changed code inside a Squeezebox Touch but I suspect that
one of the experts could find that bit and change it and then it would
be a few simple commands from command line to do the same on yours ...
my assumption being that the code that initialises that variable is in a
piece of LUA (perhaps) code that is easy to change and no compilation is
necessary.

Might be possible to patch the software on your device to make it start

Some pictures in there for Michael H to show management. All these years
on and still the centre of some exotic hi-fi builds that people want to

An alternative ... stick it on a timer plug to turn it off at night and
start it up again in the morning ...
Probably uses less energy - but might reduce overall life.

If the source for the Denon plugin is still floating around then it
might give you the basis of doing it from LMS.
